Suffer The Night

I have played the entirety of the Tainted Pacts' game catalogue. Having played this *after* The Skin Stapler (TSS), I could see where some people may have thought that title was no kind of "advancement" in any way. However, these games are two ENTIRELY different experiences. This is NOT anything at all like TSS. While it was PSX grindhouse, worshiping the beauty of campy B-Grade horror, that is NOT what Suffer the Night is. If you come expecting that, YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. If you come expecting What Flesh Made Fear is, again, you will be disappointed. This really is its own unique experience. When looked at subjectively, each title by Tainted Pact has **some similar feel** but the goal of each game, and what it is looking to accomplish, varies. I went into Suffer the Night entirely blind, and I'm glad to have done so. It really went in a direction I was not expecting, after a very much "stereotypical" start. It caught me entirely off guard. Drawing parallels, and really just taking your time is beneficial. I know many people have mentioned that missing a tarot card can "ruin the run". Would I be frustrated? Sure. However, you're given a tool, and the importance of it is given the moment you get it. It really encourages you to stop, take a minute (when you can) and really look around. I used no guides in my play through, and I did get all the cards. I simply took the time to look (even when time really was... limited). It's a fun trickle feed, and really Fleshes out the lore that makes the game so interesting. The puzzles are not mind blowingly hard, they're just asking you to be observant. It's a nice pace, though if you're looking to rush through a game, you might get tired of them. Near the later half of the game I will admit as others have mentioned, it felt a little frustratingly repetitive in some sense- but overall, it was mild and easy to overlook. The only REAL issue I did have, is there seems to be a bug that can rear its head when your framerate is uncapped keeping you from being able to go up a flight of stairs. This is in one of the very last parts, and is easily solved by temporarily capping your frame rate at 60. Overall, if you are a fan of horror, mild puzzles, and interesting story and lore, this is a great place to dip a toe into Tainted Pacts games. This is much more deeply story oriented than perhaps *some* other titles. It's an absolute steal for a fair amount of entertainment (especially if you can grab it on sale), and supporting a fantastic dev.
