You know those climbing segments in old school games where the character slowly scales a wall? Maybe it's a vine wall like in Ocarina of Time. Maybe it's a ledge you shimmy along like in the early Tomb Raiders. Imagine if that was the whole game. It's all just shimmying and climbing with painful, mind-numbing slowness. Now imagine there's no danger whatsoever. No skullwalltulas to interrupt you. No low-poly dinosaurs nipping at your heels. Not even a stamina system. Nothing. That's this game. Personally, I found the whole experience to be boring. Don't get me wrong, the graphics were gorgeous. The world looks absolutely beautiful. I am a huge fan of overgrown aesthetics. I loved seeing the strange creatures and the sunken monuments. But, ultimately? I need my games to be fun. And this wasn't fun. It didn't feel compelling to pick up a collectible, revealing 1/60th of a story I could've guessed by context clues. It didn't feel rewarding to reach the highest point in the game when I inevitably had to slowly climb back down. I wanted to leap over ledges, to fling myself over the side of a building and plunge into the waters below. Alas, the game does not give the player enough autonomy. There's no real choice in how you scale a building. You simply follow the path of vines and ledges. Sure, the path diverges into a collectible from time to time. It still feels like you're being railroaded, though. You don't have to press any buttons. There's no possible way to fall. You can't even jump. Sailing was sorta fun, but it was mostly just a means to travel to another lengthy climbing segment. This review is probably revealing more about my lack of attention span than anything else. If what I've described sounds fun to you, then you should absolutely get this game. Just wait for a sale, though. I gave up partway through gathering all the collectibles, but I can't imagine it would've taken that much longer to 100%. It's probably about ~2 hours for the main game plus another hour or two to finish up. Even if it sounds like something you're into, there's not enough content here to justify the $20 price tag.
Cannot recommend. Especially at that price. Buy on sale, if this type of game really floats your boat. The world design and music are lovely, but that's it. The gameplay is boring and sometimes tedious. If it wasn't for the collectibles which do pretty much nothing (they unlock some lore and give your boat a speed boost), you would finish this game in less than an hour.
Tedious grind with janky controls and unskippable cutscenes. Repetition sets in fast. I finished half the objectives and couldn't summon the will to continue. The mood and setting work, but the graphics are glitchy and ugly in spots - especially the water, which looks like it's the year 2005 again, which is ironic, as the whole setting is a water-world, and I'd imagine you'd get at least that right... The worst part: this plays like a short film someone forced into game format. "The game" doesn't let you fail in any way. You can't be hurt by anything, you can't even fall - there is no danger or possible fail of any sort. Is this a game at all? You're safeguarded and locked on a one-way rail climbing buildings, going through the motions of collecting backstory fragments that are depressing and predictable. As others have noted, the game patronizes you at every turn with no sense of progression or real payoff for repeating the same task endlessly. The sequel's trailer shows the same problems dressed up in shinier graphics. Uninstalled. Save your money. PS Oh, and someone tell the devs you can't zip-line with bare hands.
lovely game..
Gorgeous exploration game. No stress, just good music and steering your boat around while mutated (but beautiful) sea creatures accompany you on your journey. Save your brother at the same time, but there's no rush. Great for people who want a brain break in a beautiful environment. Looking forward to the sequel!
It took far too long for me to actually play this, but in the chaotic year 2026, this is still a beautiful little gem. Highly recommend this game.
Can't wait for this to be our life in 50 years!! Even as someone with a fear of large bodies of water, this was really relaxing and beautiful. The water graphics are top tier and the boat movement is very smooth. There's not much to the game in terms of story or mechanics, but it's a good one for putting some music or an audiobook on and collecting items in peace for a few hours.
Me gusta. Punto!
