The first full retail title I bought on PC was Wing Commander, the first one, and I loved it, and I love the genre (arcade space shooters). Games of this genre are few and far between and Subdivision Infinity DX most definitely scratches that itch and gets a thumb up from me, with some caveats. Firstly, the flight controls, on keyboard and mouse are on point, at least using a mouse with 3200dpi, I've played many games of the genre and felt right at home instantly. Graphics and sound both get a thumbs up although my 5700x/3070 do get a little strained playing the game, akin to playing a AAA title, I guess due to optimisation, or rather lack there of. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and enjoying the game, but... it feels like what it is, in terms of content, a cheap indie game. The game consists of fixed instanced missions and "free play" areas where you can search out hidden loot boxes with items and cash, farm enemies for XP and items, and also mine asteroids for resources that can be used to build and upgrade ships, and weapons, or sold. The mission difficulty increases rather quicker than I would like, but you can replay any mission as many times as you want or do free play area runs to your hearts content to grind for XP, money and resources, so in essence you can make the game as easy or hard as you like by grinding, or not. There are some features missing that I would have liked to see, specifically locking on and range markers on targets. On the HUD, enemies are marked with a red circle when on screen and a red arrow points in their direction if not, and items that can be collected are marked in blue. Targets are always marked and there is not manual targeting or cycling, and as said earlier, there is no distance info so it can be hard at times to tell what targets are closer than others or which target is the closest. There are 10 player pilotable ships, all of which I believe can be upgraded (at least once) and there are 8 primary and 2 secondary weapons (which can be upgraded each 5 times), and also 2 tools (mining laser and probe). Sadly since launch (3 and half years ago) there appears to have been only one small "balancing" patch and so the chances of additional content or DLC is highly unlikely, and as others have said (mostly the negative reviews), that the game does lack content. Still, I'm enjoying it and have zero regrets.
Fabuła opowiada o... lataniu i strzelaniu? Strona techniczna: Jak w każdej normalnej grze 6DOF polecam ruch w górę i w dół przypisać bocznym klawiszom myszki, to znacznie ułatwia rozgrywkę. Takie gry z całą pewnością lepiej wyglądają w wysokim fps, no i gra się znacznie wygodniej.
Subdivision Infinity is a spaceship game in the likes of Galaxy of Fire 2, which I´ve just finished and liked very much. You are a pilot, of course, and you start with a feeble ship which, of course again, you will want to upgrade and improve, buy better equipment, evolve, etc. I mentioned Galaxy of Fire 2, but Subdivision Infinity is not a sandbox game, it has a linear campaign progression. You have the option of doing "exploration", a.k.a side mission on each sector (haven´t played those yet), but overall you don´t have too much liberty to roam the galaxy freely. The combat is fast and furious, if you stop moving you are in trouble. The visuals are very good, being a newer game, the explosions e.g. are very well done. The controls are very similar to most ship sims, which is great. I can play w/ m+k and it is satisfying. Pity that the lame dialogues between you and your robot sidekick have a complete lack of chemistry. In that sense, GoF 2 was way better. I´ve tried about nine or ten games of this genre, and Subdivision Infinity made it into the final five (the others were "Galaxy of Fire 2", "Darkstar One", "The Battle of Sol" and "Disputed Space", this last one being purely arcade). So I recommend this game. Its strongest points are the frantic combat and elaborated graphics. I´m not sure about the ship improvement mechanism, tho. We´ll see. UPDATE: I´m past half the campaign and my ship is now not strong enough to keep going. So I´m resorting to Exploration missions, where you can mine asteroids for money to upgrade ship and gear (you can also look for blueprints to craft specific ship, but I´m not doing that). It´s a good way to "relax", you mine asteroids and deal with the eventual ships that appear to bug you. You can leave the Exploration mission at any moment and carry what you already got with you. It´s a fair grinding system.
pos game does not have lock and the input.ini is flippin blank! no way to remap controls unless i want to write out a full script

About
The game is, as other reviews mention, a space fighting game. You have a pretty linear story line, no choices, no space exploration. Each misssion is basically in a small sector, you have to fly somewhere, stay close to something, and kill all the enemies. There are so-called exploration missions, where you can find some blueprints and resources for crafting new ships and upgrading your weapons. But it's basically like another mission, where you have to find some well hidden boxes and enemies keep spawning.
Look and feel
The graphics and sound are decent. The story is okay, nothing special. It's somewhat visual novel style dialog. The character portraits however lack mimics, which makes it feel a bit dry. The controls with mouse and keyboard felt intuitive and allow you perform some nice maneuvering during the fights and in-structure explorations.
Tips
The game has a few quirks, you should be aware of, to make your life a bit easier. Beware of asteroids. They don't do high damage in particular, but you may get stuck inside and have to restart. You need to start the mission from the beginning, as there are no savepoints inside a mission, but missions are not that long anyway. It can be annoying in an exploration mission, when you took some time to find all the blueprints. Exploration missions, well, get radar probes and use them. Ideally, get one more than there are blueprints, then you will get an info that you found all, instead of "no more radar probes" at the end. Makes it a bit more clear. You may need some keycards, which you get by playing other exploration missions or progressing through the story. Just re-visit the exploration mission later. You should find the blueprints for crafting ships. They are well hidden. Radar probes reveal their position, but not how to get there, so anticipate some searching, esp. in the last exploration mission. Later exploration missions have more enemies, more challenging enemies, and they respawn faster. Just keep one little fighter alive. That will prevent the respawns and one guy is hardly able to bring you down. Especially, since they tend to get stuck in some structure. Don't forget to equip the mining laser before exploration missions and to replace it with your ordenance for regular missions. When mining, prefer the colored asteroids. Upgrade your ship, as soon as possible. You will have more then enough resources. Don't buy ships, just get the crafted ones. I preferred using the laser, twice. Does quite decent damage and is precise and fast. Useful for shooting down incoming missiles and mines. Later just use the Lvl. 16 weapon, photon cannon or so, to bring down enemies faster, esp. larger ones.
Verdict
All in all, I wouldn't call it particularliy exciting, but it was definitely fun. It's relatively easy and can be played through in a few hours. Perhaps get it on discount or in a bundle – you are unlikely to play it more than once.
NOT WORTH BUYING! (at that price) The game is very plain and a very simple space shooter. It would be OK for a quick fun inbetween, but it lacks on so many point that it is not a good game
