Reviews
Was sceptical at first because the game uses squares instead of hexes and no stacking possible. While this is indeed an issue (the newer version at least switched to hexes), it nevertheless works out well in the WW1 setting. Played through the great campaign scenario and one of the larger ones in the "breakthrough" game, also tried out some smaller scenarios and it reflects what I expect from a strategic game of WW1 or earlier period. The attrition and trench warfare feeling in the west is there while operations and movement in other theaters is still possible. But I doubt it will do well in WW2 or modern scenarios when more different combat and support units are present that need a square or hex for themselves. Very unpleasent is the naval warfare, its ruined by the one-unit-one-square-principle. You cant even have two ships in one harbor. But overall still a surprisingly good game for WW1 on strategic level.
