About

Dear Applicant,
I am pleased to offer you the role of Apprentice Thaumaturge at Strange Antiquities.
You show promise – a sharp mind and a strong stomach – exactly what this work demands. I need you to run the shop while I attend to other pressing matters. You will need a keen eye for detail as you provide the townsfolk of Undermere with occult objects for their arcane needs.
Undermere might seem unassuming at first – a serene little town on the edge of a grand lake. But it also sits at the edge of our world and the world beyond – and it falls on us to preserve reality’s frayed edge.
Permit me now to outline your duties – you’ll need to be up to speed from day one.

Every day, you will welcome new customers into the cosy, candle-lit interior of the shop. Their needs are unpredictable and often alarming, but never dull!
Study and Identify: Examine, identify and catalogue strange artefacts. Observation, deduction, and careful reference to our collection of illustrated tomes will serve you well. Mistakes can be… costly.
Help… Or Hinder: When dealing with powerful items, your choices matter. Will you help someone with their problem, or curse them with a horrid affliction? In a small town like this, people remember your misdeeds.
Explore and Discover: From time to time, you will have to leave the safety of the shop. Whether investigating rumours or retrieving artefacts, my well-loved hand-drawn maps will guide you to where you need to go.
Solve and Uncover: Your day-to-day might already feel like a puzzle, but this store holds many more. Few know how old this building is, and fewer still know what secrets lie within its walls.
Tending the Familiar: And, of course, Jupiter, the shop’s cat, demands daily affection. In return for his company, please oblige him with the occasional scratch behind the ears.

These ravens are an omen. There is a sickness in this town and I intend to investigate it.
Barton Potter told me that his bad eye has been aching again. That can’t be a good sign. And a creeping dark has set up in Jack Hungerford’s house. I have business in Ravenglass but I will consult with the occult scholar, Verona Green, before I leave.
There are always forces at play that would see our beloved Undermere unmade. We stand between them and the threshold. If events take a turn, you may be called upon to take a stand.

This shop is my life’s work. And, for the most part, it has been good to me. May it now offer you equal parts reward and mystery! But remember: some curiosities are best left untouched, and some visitors are not what they seem.
I look forward to your arrival.
Yours,
Eli White

We are two brothers from the UK who have been making games together for over a decade. In 2022, we released our occult puzzle game Strange Horticulture, and the response has been incredible; from amazing reviews and award nominations to appearing in numerous best-of-the-year lists. Most importantly, it has been a joy to read the kind words left by so many of our players on Steam, where we are still rated Overwhelmingly Positive after close to 12,000 reviews!
Strange Antiquities is not a sequel, not a direct one, at least. You’ll see some familiar faces, and maybe some plants will pop up, but it’s a brand new story. If you have a fondness for Strange Horticulture and the dark, but welcoming world we’ve created, know that you’ll feel right at home.
We want to thank everyone who has played Strange Horticulture, left us a review, told their friends, or supported the game in any way. It has been an amazing journey and we can't wait to share the next chapter with you.
Many thanks,
Rob & John

Terribly dull and cheaply made.
Great game with a good story. Not too simple, not too hard. Definitely recommend it.
I'm at the beginning of what I suppose is the last day of the game now. I began the game with as careful and as thoughtful of a completionist mindset as possible, and have still only barely gotten half of the achievements. Something to note is that the hint system only helps with the customer or puzzle right in front of you at the time. It gets you closer to the answer when you're about to go insane with failure after failure. Otherwise outside of this mode, the hint system just essentially chastises you for not reading up when you're not "in the thick of it". I greatly disliked having to go online for *lots* of 'nudges', for fear of missing out and/or soft-locking myself. Which is something worthy of discussion in-and-of itself. Sometimes you're supposed to reuse stuff, other times when it *could* still be appropriate to reuse an item, you take a massive hit. This becomes more and more of a problem as the number of items you get becomes fairly massive over time. Oftentimes, due to the limited number of days to do everything, you feel like you'll get locked out of other stuff if you don't scramble before closing up shop because of straggling clues left over. The hint system sure isn't going to help you not get locked out of things however, because it only cares when you're panicking to solve a customer or location puzzle directly in front of you. I shouldn't feel any sort of way about the hint system of a game, but this game *forces* you to feel bad about it, and correspondingly yourself for both your "need" to use it, and the futile let-down once you do. Don't get me wrong, the hint system doesn't cuss you out or whatever, but if it was going to be like this it would actually be funnier if it did (lol). Sometimes the end-of-day clues are so obtuse and deliberately misleading that you're only going to solve it if you luck out and change perspective "the right way". Some of them feel downright mean, akin to how game devs of the 80s/90s would just take out their frustrations on the player, but a little subtler. The game must expect you to take alternating branches in subsequent play-throughs to get all achievements. I mean, when it's literally just choosing one item over another at a single moment in time to traverse to the different branch, idk.. The misses are much more demoralizing than the successes are at releasing happy chems (lol). When I miss the first time, I just start clicking hint and throwing items at it. I don't feel any intrinsic sense of *wanting* to learn from my mistakes, like I don't get "more curious" or whatever. I've beaten Strange Horticulture, and in that game I eventually felt like I wanted to quickly get through it to get to Strange Antiquities, because I was hoping that I'd get some quality-of-life improvements from the newer game's system. Now that I've complained this whole time, I do want to say that the entire concept of thaumaturgy is super-duper intriguing! Despite my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I did learn a LOT about at least the concepts behind it, because the way the info is presented is probably the clearest I've seen in a game thus far. Fields, symbology, gemology, these are things which I felt I didn't really "learn" about in games like Myst and the Zork series, but always wanted to gain something of a deeper understanding. There's definitely a nice, spooky sense of immersion as well. I do very much like the ambiance, and it's particularly rewarding to "do a day" when it's dark 'n stormy outside! I wish I didn't feel like I was content to (eventually) simply brute-force through days, caring less and less about continuing as I kept missing. I genuinely do have a pretty good ability to focus on things in games: pay attention to details, remember key facts, not need to go online for clues, etc. I also did still get most items right on the first try as well. This *is* my genre of game without a doubt! If there were a LOT more days than there is, I think I also would've liked this game more in fact. It's not that it was overstaying its welcome, the days scarcity which you can clearly see in front of you the whole time you play makes each day feel "overly important" (if that makes any sense), and so you eventually feel anxious enough to seek elsewhere for info all the time to ensure you're not f'd. I probably would have had a better opinion of it if I'd not played Strange Horticulture first. Also I would've actually preferred to have my Steam rating for Strange Antiquities set as 'neutral'. Since it's so unique I opted for 'recommended' so that others who're into this very niche genre don't miss out on a worthwhile game. Because at the end of the day it *is* worthwhile for others to go through and likely glean a better impression of it than I did.

Every market we collect.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Fun puzzle game. I like digging through the books and comparing characteristics to the objects. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes it's mixed up with another very similar object.
So many fun details, a great escape room feel with interesting lore and plot, and a warm atmosphere. This game is the perfect difficulty for what it is and does not overstay its welcome. My best advice is to always look beyond your first instinct.
Highly recommend!! Cozy, creepy, and lots of puzzles!
Love a good, cozy mystery
Really interesting and fun game! Loved flipping through pages to discern ways to identify the artifacts
Based on reviews I thought it would be better than horticulture but it's kind of the same. Not bad, solid cozy game, but not worth the cost. Also some of the deductions are arbitrary/frustrating rather then clever (like the card shaped sort of like 2 gravestones, though not exactly like either).
