This is one of a kind that is meant to be a grand chess of this genre. I will update this review as I play more.
This has the bones of a great great game, reminds me a lot of a 4x starfleet command which should be a perfect game for me. Why isn't it? Terrible UI truly awful. There is an introduction to the game in the form of multiple screens but it dumps a load of information on you in walls of text masking the UI in a lot of cases and its forgotten as soon as the screen passes. The UI is so hard to parse, there's no reason for a 3d galaxy they should have opted for simplicity of design, function over form instead the excessive amount of visual garbage and semi transparency effects make the screens hard to parse at a glance. Ships seem to cost money (as they should) but nowhere in the ship design screen does there seem to be any mention of maintainanece costs for the ships which is frustrating. The research screen has many tabs and a slider, it needs none, if it were a reasonable size with a better designed layout it could probably fit on one screen. I usually like quite complex games but if you're going to make them getting the UI right is absolutely essential. I'm not refunding it I'd quite like it to do well and in some time I may return and change this review and add some pointers so people don't have the same starting experience I am having which is a real turn off. This game needs tooltips, hover the mouse over a button have a small window pop up explaining things, not one that takes 1/6th of the screen. Combats great fun 0 complaints other than the UI. Its probably late in the day for any of this to be fixed. If you can get it on sale and you're willing to wrestle with the god awful UI its defo worth a punt but as it is at the current price point you have to be willing to accept the UI issue. Too much theming, lots and lots of useless visuals crowd out useful information and its a bloody shame.
This game is heaven for the number crunching people. Most resources have super high numbers so you can be certain that your sliders does what you expect without much of any truncation or rounding. I did NOT tested this game to know if those numbers matter or not. It might if you want to speed run it? You can spawn enemies and play around some options to see the effects. There are serious tactical manouvers, and lasting effects that ripple trough the fight. Kinda like DOTA where a missed last hit might be the factor to buy aghanim scepter or travel boots lol. If the main game wont give you a challange you can perfectly fine tune one for yourself in the simulator. The galaxy map is EXTREAMLY good, with bad navigation tho, this bad navigation translates to all other 3D place in game. (talking about the camera not the actual clicking thing). They say the UI is bad or whatever. The UI is very well made if you factor in how much information needs to present itself in a way that you can change them too. All changes instantly shows their effect so thats helpfull to figure out the game gradually. They say the tech tree is small. Well the tech tree matter A LOT, each single researchable option drastically change your game, you likelly will spend most time there pondering on the options as its a major commitment whatever you chose. There is a talent system of sorts that supposed to help out in areas you are uncomfortable, you can brick your run if you spend the talents in bad places and have to factory reset the game. It sorta like a quest chain too if you dont know what to do in this sandbox.
It's been a joy to watch the game develop over the past few months. A one-man developer who really cares about the game. I'm already looking forward to more content. Worth every cent.
This game is fantastic. Developer is active and patches are regular.
This was an okay game until the developer abandoned it for another project that he probably won't complete either. A pity as this game had promise.
Was really looking forward to a turn base 4x game. I loaded the game and less than 10 min I requested a refund. Not even worth the 13 bucks I spent on it. Save your time and money don't even buy it.
Erinnert sehr an Sword of the Stars 2. Ersteindruck: sehr gut! ----------------- TLDR: Do not buy it, on the long run it is not working and the development haltet. ---- Englische Übersetzung it babelfish: This game is very playable and fun from the start. Very reminiscent of Sword of the Stars 2. But not as buggy. The tutorial is very extensive - I haven't read it all through, let alone seen the whole game. I will update the rating later (updated the 1st time because some of my wishes have already been implemented!). 2. Text addition: Even if there are still a few small spelling mistakes, the game has potential! I'm just beginning to understand it, as far as the graphics are concerned, it's already too animated for me, but it works (SOTS2 was extreme there). What I find difficult is not to get into the red at the beginning. The administration of the Klolonien and the trading posts as well as the construction of individual freighters and the high prices also take some getting used to. At the price and with what's going on here - I prefer playing it to Distant Worlds 2 at the moment simply because there is nothing else. I really like Master Of Orion 3 - if it weren't for some things that were just invariably annoying. But I'm still playing that. So if you like to familiarize yourself with a new game mechanic - let's say at Polaris sector level (also a recommendation from me) you should grab it and, after a short familiarization, you can mess around with the 3D map and the opponents. For those who are looking for and guessing the perfect finishing touch, you'll have to wait a little longer, because some of the symbols in the battle are too big for my taste and there's a lot to find out. But there is also a combat simulator, also similar to SOTS. The colonies are more detailed than in SOTS. Questions remain here too; comparable to ISG (Interstellar Space: Genesis) in terms of getting used to it. End of 2nd text addition As you can read here, a lot has happened, and in such a short time. That's why I put everything that was done down here and wrote a small addition above. done: In the German translation of the tutorial, ships are often written as ships.. done: You can rename fleets, but you can't see in the menu whether you write in upper or lower case. In other menus you can see if you wrote it wrong. This is due to the font - which in one case is only capital letters. done: What I'm missing so far is leaving the window with the ESCAPE key and zooming out better/further in the galaxy. more or less done: Furthermore, the setting of navigation points is still a little riddle. But what is great is the ability to get to all positions in the universe with these nav points. So you can also attack from a different direction than expected.. You can also rename the nav points: Was also a wish What I still miss is that you jump to the middle of the universe when leaving the creation. 2. Text addition: Another wish is that the nav points can be selected when selecting a ship. 1. Text addition: Due to my request, it is now easier to rename fleets: After clicking on the pen, the text is immediately marked and kman can start typing immediately. Pressing the Enter key closes the window. 2. Text addition: The name of the ship is also retained when disbanding a fleet (with patch 1.2.x) End 2. Text addition 1. Text addition: Another wish was not to close the window by pressing X to have to. It was implemented immediately and on the same day! Now you can exit the menus immediately with ESC or a click next to the window. Otherwise, the scalability of the user interface is very good. as well as many other details. First impression: very good!
