About
Steel Seed — a gripping action-adventure game from the visionary team behind the critically acclaimed Close to the Sun, set in a dark sci-fi world where humanity stands on the brink of extinction. Join protagonist Zoe and her flying drone companion, KOBY, as they investigate the depths of a hostile underground facility in search of answers and the key to the survival of mankind.
After a catastrophic event rendered Earth uninhabitable, machines took control of the remnants of humanity’s survival. The underground facility is a vast, machine-built structure designed for machines — not humans. Each region presents unique environmental storytelling, hazards, and secrets waiting to be uncovered. From towering industrial landscapes to eerie biodomes, the world of Steel Seed is as haunting as it is immersive. Explore a hand-crafted world filled with dynamic combat, formidable enemies, and an immersive narrative that challenges the very definition of humanity.
Zoe isn’t alone — her only ally is Koby, a prototype drone designed to assist her. Initially just a tool, Koby becomes a crucial partner, offering guidance and solving puzzles through environmental interactions. Though it communicates only through chirps and visual cues, Koby becomes Zoe’s emotional anchor in an otherwise desolate world. They create a formidable duo by working together and bringing something new to every fight.
Adapt your playstyle with a unique blend of stealth-action gameplay:
Stealth & Strategy – Utilize shadows, distractions, and the environment to evade or take down enemies.
Dynamic Combat – Face off against various enemy types and challenging bosses, each with unique abilities.
Upgradeable Abilities – Customize Zoe’s playstyle with three distinct skill trees featuring 40 different upgrades.
Highly interactive environments encourage creative problem-solving, making every encounter feel strategic and rewarding.
Steel Seed isn’t just about survival — it’s about exploring the fine line between human and machine, trust and control, resilience and despair. Revised and edited by BAFTA-winning writer Martin Korda, it pairs an intriguing main character's evolution with a compelling and deep narrative experience.

Oh boy, my review for SteelSeed is a solid 3 out of 5.The game is incredibly flawed. It suffers from a severe issue where in later levels, if you die going the wrong way—because the game will show you multiple different ways you're supposed to go—those areas are either a bug or incompetence on behalf of the designers. They shouldn't be telling me two or three different places to go when, in reality, there's only one way to go. If you choose the wrong way and die, you will trigger a bug that causes you to fall through the world. Again, there is literally an icon showing you where to go when you're not actually supposed to go that way. If you're not careful, it will totally corrupt your save file like it did to me, 22 hours into the game.Earlier in the game, there's a sequence where you have to jump up, down, and around these pillar structures. If you don't do it a specific way every time, the main character will let go and fall to her death. The game doesn't tell you this, so it acts like it's bugged when it's not. Then, the unforgivable—I mean absolutely unforgivable—thing about this game is the story. The story of this game is trash. It takes itself completely seriously, straight as an arrow, and that is the biggest problem. It literally has one of the most anti-climactic stories I have ever seen in my life. It's one of those stories that should not be taken seriously, but the whole game does. It doesn't help that the voice actors are so flat that the game itself suffers from it. It's like they're trying to tell a legitimate, hardcore, interesting story at about 75% through the game, but they have no talent, money, or resources to do it. As a result, the story sounds ridiculously stupid. By the time the twist at the end happens, I didn't even care. It was so ridiculously stupid that I was more blown away by the fact that they would even try to go there and play it straight. On top of this, the game itself just has too many bugs. The average gamer isn't going to play this to completion. They're going to get to a point in the story where there's not enough content, get bored, and walk away. Or, they're going to trigger one of these game-breaking bugs and just walk away. Now, I'll admit the game looks absolutely gorgeous, but it's repetitive and the story isn't very good at all. In my opinion, it's not worth full price at all. It's one of those games you want to pick up when there's a $15 or $20 sale at the most. The game currently has the label of a stealth game, but originally it actually had a Souls-like label on it. It looks like people complained too much, so they took it out. At least, that's the only excuse I can see for them doing that. They have something here that might be really good with a sequel. Cut the world, flesh out the main character, and give her a personality that is not sandpaper. Give her a voice actress who can actually act, and improve on the world-building. The game speaks of humans that are asleep but never actually shows them. It says a lot of things without showing them, which makes the world feel empty and your reasons worthless.Again, if they're going to make a sequel, okay, go for it. But for the love of god, make sure you do better than this. If you make a sequel and it's as ridiculous as this one when it comes to its story elements, then I'm going to be very unkind. You have a platform here to make something better, so please learn from your mistakes with this game and do better.
I understand this is a small team, but this really needed more time before release the game is so mind numbingly boring, its the same very basic hack and slash and barebones stealth (with nothing unique or different in the slightest you haven't seen a thousand times) over and over and over and over, the upgrades here don't really do much other than one extra basic attack after a dodge or extra energy or various weapons for the little bot that drains after 3 shots and takes forever to recharge, and with how little damage it does makes it useless. If you are going to make a game repetitive at least give the player more than just a basic sneak around walls the glitchy grass or just mindlessly slash a sword. I really tried to keep playing and give it the benefit of the doubt that it'll get better, but the more i played the more bored i got. Also the world is cool and all but you clearly tell these are just unreal assets from the store with zero effort to make custom textures or shaders or anything on top of them to make them look unique so despite the scale and high fidelity graphics of this metallic world it's just that default unreal look pulling me out of being convinced this is a unique world. Most insultingly is this description of a "immersive narrative" is borderline false advertising to consumers in my opinion. And yes I looked up the rest of the game's story to confirm my criticisms here: Zoe wakes on a table already altered into a machine, uses amnesia as an excuse to not explain anything. She seems to be completely unbothered the fact this has happened to her destoying any character depth right away. Her father dies off screen from some illness, we don't even know what it is. We are at a facility called project ark, where is this? is this even on earth? what is the location context to the plot? never explained. The plot of about this place is zoe's father (along his company) built it as humanity's safeguard from extinction. they hamfist this point a lot but they never explain extinction from what or how or when or what is even going on on earth. at one point zoe says she feels bad for people on earth dying from disease and injuries as if this isn't a universal fact since the beginning of time and has nothing to do with some sort of apocalyptic event. I'm not joking that's all the explanation we get. Also the ai robots are supposed to be good, but some of them are corrupted from "human-made data" what does that even mean? buried in text logs the AI analyzed human history (wars, greed, social data) to figure out how to protect humanity, ultimately deciding that humans are their own worst enemy. the most vague terms you can imagine that doesn't explain anything. Koby is a basically your R2D2 zero information of why this character is your ally or how you understand it, the game just makes the excuse that zoe can understand him because of her new cybernetic implants, whatever that even means. Before her father died he uploaded consciousness and split in 4 places as you collect them. Predictably S4VI betrays you once you collect all 4 shards or whatever as he says he was contemplating human history and the fall of man. He decides that humans are too fundamentally flawed to be brought back. he tries to absorb and assimilate the facility's power core to become a literal god. How does a energy core to run electrical power in a facility make this possible? never explained. he screams about freedom and how he doesn't want to be a slave to humans. The shards have nothing do do with this by the way, his big brain plan was to wait for zoe to collect them (since he couldn't leave the room he was in) to merge zoe's fathers mind with his own. He could have done this at any time while zoe was asleep, but since he wanted to destory humanity anyway it is irrelevant. After you stop him Zoe hooks into the system to finally talk to her dead dad, but instead of any emotion to the man who built all of this. He tells S4VI he’s proud of him, and S4VI just passive-aggressively talks about how he learned from Zoe. Then out of nowhere the system announces that the facility's machines found Zoe's human body they hand her the controls to a project called Re-ignition, which is basically a giant light switch that instantly downloads the entire extinct human race back into physical bodies. and all of this talk of human extinction is gone and we all live happily ever after, with the robot saying its somehow actually a human after all then it ends. this feels like this story was thrown together last minute. Overall it isn't worth your time and there are plenty of other indie games that have more engaging and varied gameplay that respects your time
I thought I've already reviewed the game all the way back in 2025, but it turns out I haven't! After spending lots of time playing it and replaying it, I fell in love with it more than ever. In fact I fell in love with it ever since the beginning, but with the time everything it made me witness made that love grow. Such an incredibly executed indie debut game is rare to witness! It has potential to be even more, but this game deserves all the applause for what it is - one of the most refined indie experiences I've had - the quality of the product is certainly leaning more towards AA, rather than indie. There's many qualities too that surpass the AA market and even has a potential to compete with AAA titles for some things. I honestly haven't seen another game present what we witnessed in this one in this particular way. I was completely drawn into its world, its characters and its story. I felt like I was in the Matrix! What an incredible experience. I also relate to the amazing looking protagonist. It was a joy getting to play her and her little new friend, who we made a strong connection with during the journey. I'd for sure update the review in a more formal way when I have the time to do so.
Slowly clearing my backlog after all these patches... great game after all. Solid 8/10 for me.

This game completely blew me away. Fast-paced, intense, stylish, and visually stunning from start to finish. Brutal when it needs to be, dark and mysterious throughout, and packed with action from the very first minute. Huge respect to the developers for creating such an incredible experience. Absolutely recommended.
So far so good runs buttery smooth! Interesting Story
Gorgeous looking game. Really fun. Awesome environments ad combat is fun. Pick it up you won't b disappointed. Ignore the silly negative comments. Ull always have cry babies just needing something to whine about.
