Fantastic game and community, modding is very easy too
Great game, our crew is having loads of fun each week taking on the various roles on the Horizons and solving the different missions. Also the mission designer means we can create our own missions and try those created by others. Plus the developer, Auric, is super responsive on Discord to all feedback, and there's a great community there as well. The great thing is only the host needs to own the game, 5 other players can play just via their browsers with no purchase needed. The Discord Starship Horizons server is a great place to find players to join up with to try out the game.
Game is sick. Not much resource, great lan game or open the ports up and good Saturday nights!
fun group game
My friends and I were eager to try this, so we finally pitched in and bought it. On our first mission,, missiles that we fired all got stuck IN our ship and slowly destroyed us. Got no response in 17 hours on the forums, so I have no choice but to refund; it is unplayable, apparently.
It's exactly what it says on the box, a Star Trek style bridge simulator for LARPing setups. You can make custom missions, and eventually create custom RPG style campaigns. If that's your kind of thing, get this. To my knowledge, YOU NEED IRL FRIENDS TO FULLY ENJOY. You can do it solo, but at least two people in a local co-op setting is ideal.
Great Simulator. Very easy to modify and add your own content. Community is very helpful and welcoming. The developer is among those who are super helpful with any issues. Constant updates and additions. Only one copy needed for the Host, everyone else logs in through a browser.
The game itself is great when played with a group of 5 or more. There is a learning curve to the game but mostly gives that Trek like vibe. Each of the screens that a player controls is well done and the developer is very active in updates and on Discord. Very recently the move to allow the game to be headless has been a very welcomed one. This changes some things to allow for a much more discreet setup for group play and LARP uses. Programming screens aren't too difficult if you understand some JavaScript (raw, Three), HTML 5, and CSS. The game's back-end does allow for quite a bit of customization. Importing 3D objects via glb and the like are a breeze and you can create your own ships, ordnance, systems, factions, missions, hell the entire universe if you wish. I for sure would recommend this game but you only need one copy of it for a group of players for someone to be the host as the game is played out on a web browser, even the main view screens where you can see all the action.
For the role playing in a future setting enthusiast, Starship Horizons fills a need. Now, you can role play using a starship bridge simulator where you can develop your own galaxy full of stars, planets, and races both friendly and not. More screens are better in this game as now you can find a use for all those old monitors cluttering up the closet giving you both ambiance and insight into your ship and its functioning. There are even tutorial videos built-in to all the primary stations on the bridge, Flight control, Tactical, Science, Communications, Engineering, and even the Captain. Of course, the Game Master also has a screen just to allow real-time fiddling and other control. There are displays for just about all the other things you would want on a bridge, like shield health and even a color display showing the current alert level. A library computer is available for the studious crew and star charts to view. The main screen can view the ship from a number of angles or it can show another target. You can design your own scenarios in your own galaxy, or use the ones that are supplied. At this writing, the game is still in development, but it is most usable now.
This is definitely one of the best starship bridge sims I've played. I played with family, and while we did have some technical issues (combination of our physical setup, internet, and maybe just the fact that the game is in early access), we had a good time. I absolutely love some of the stuff you can do with this game. I just wish there were more people that were into this sort of game.
