Cute short (romance) fantasy VN. Pros: Cute princess with customizable appearance and personality, cute steward/adviser, cute (optional) romance. YMMV: The game is very short (~30 mins w/o procrastination and AFK-ing to 100%). However, it's also cheap. Cons: The game is also very laggy. 100% CPU utilization. Even Steam froze.
While this short story takes place in the same world and is loosely connected to Embers of Magic, Brilliant Shadows, and Pale Spectrum, it isn't necessary to have played those to understand this. However, I think people would probably enjoy it more after having read the main two VNs, because all the world building is done in the other stories. Regardless, this story is short but cute. It refers to the royal family, a princess -- likely an ancestor of Prude's (a main character from Brilliant Shadows and Pale Spectrum) -- who has come to a remote location to hide from the commoners' rebellion. Thanks to the current King -- the princess's mother (yes, her mother, because in this world the ruler is always a King) -- the common people are suffering from severe poverty and often taking abuse from nobles. The one helping the princess is a dragon who can take human form and they can cutely come to like each other depending on the player's choices. Praises

Player can choose a thicc protagonist.
Player can choose a dark-skinned protagonist.
The dragon is nonbinary; uses they/them pronouns.
One of the achievements is called "Ace Antics" for when the player chooses not to kiss the dragon or hold their hand. (Although, there are plenty of asexual people who like to kiss and hold hands.)
Lovely artwork as always from this dev -- Ithaqua Labs. It always has a unique style and often pretty.
Minor Issues

A few typos.
Too short, of course.
I recommend it to those who've read the main two VNs and if you don't mind short stories.

*I was gifted this game from a friend* Honestly I want to recommend this game. Everything about the art is beautiful. I love the sprites, layout and even the backgrounds. Especially because the backgrounds have moving parts. Being able to choose how your character slightly looks is also a nice little addition. The voice acting for the game wasn't that bad either. I enjoyed the sounds, music and otherwise, too. Otherwise, that's about anything positive I have to say about the game. I didn't particularly enjoy most of the story, and I didn't care for the main characters and even the side characters as well. The choices do not matter for the game, except for the last one. The writing wasn't terrible, actually I think it was done fairly well, I just didn't find myself intrigued much by the plot. The game is short, at least an hour at most. I have more time in the game because the game constantly crashed on me constantly (which I did not understand why). As well as even when I thought I had closed the game, it was still apparently running in the background. The game is cheap enough, and it seems so far between the other reviews, people have enjoyed it. Even though I personally did not enjoy the game and am choosing not to recommend it, you might want to get it and try it for yourself. Who knows, you might end up enjoying it yourself. I can tell the people who worked on this game put a lot of work into it and while it was not my cup of tea, I would like to see their game succeed and hope that more people will find it and enjoy it themselves.
全程配音,半小时流程,单可攻略对象(剩下俩是凑数的),是个非常简短的童话风故事,而因为是童话故事,就也不用纠结主角前后人设转变太快或者相爱太快这种东西了,睡前放松玩会比较合适。
In Stars and Snowdrops you play as Her Very Spoiled Highness, or Princess Kovi. You are dropped off at Snowdrop Keep for a “vacation.” After being duly informed by The Advisor Frel that that is anything but, you must find a suitor, or a decent advisor, to go back home. While Stars and snowdrops has its negatives, I’m very impressed with its soft music tracks, artwork, and in particular, its voice acting. Even in more expensive VN’s that’s not typically an option I get to experience, and it was very well done. The sprites are animated, there is a small amount of character customization, and while the story was interesting, Kovi was a bit of a brat and I’m a bit baffled how quickly she and her love interest fall in, well, love, if given the option. The story is about 20-30 min long and if you have any interest at all in playing the game, for $1.99 I say go for it.
While the voice acting was really good and the plot had potential, a dark skinned overweight princess couldn't win me over. Being overweight, having a dark skin and being non-binary doesn't describe you as a person. I wanted to see their real character traits, I wanted to see where the story takes me, I wanted to see some character development. It ended before it even began.
to leena: i'd rather spend the rainy day with you while we explore the castle than fall for the dragon which 'crashed' multiple times 😶🌫️ here is my warning to everyone who bought or has not launched this game after the date of this review: launch the game in offline mode and you will have smooth sailing all the way. the online mode will make you crash at the same dialogue multiple times so you can never see the story past that point. to obtain achievements, just skip everything and select any choice you want though you will need at least 2 saves: first during the multiple candidate choices and second for picking which action you would like to do at the end. the graphics remind of rapunzel tangled adventure plus the colours do blend well together and it's clear that the artists have put a lot of thought into the backgrounds as well. i'd say the voice acting is top notch such as the air of arrogance which princess kovida carries while also being considerate of her people and the no-nonsense vibe frel exudes with a hint of sweetness during the conclusion. being able to choose what body shape and skin colour is also a plus one for those who are fans of inclusivity in their games for more immersion (: my only gripe is frel's end dialogue which is constant throughout the 3 choices though the CG's are different so i'm not complaining, just wanted to share my two cents :p overall, if you want a leisure evening at 'stars and snowdrops' for less than an hour then do be my non-binary and asexual (including other sexualities too, of course!) guests to own this game plus leave a review so we can display the cute achievements! 😹🫶🏼
I really REALLY wanted to try this game out but it just keeps CRASHING. I have no idea why and it seems no one else had the same problem. maybe it's a time thing? I ran other VNs just fine Edit: Someone said they also had a lot of crashes but it runs fine AFTER they changed into an older pc. Guess if you really want to try this one you’ll have to do that
It's super short and super cute. The (few) choices don't really matter and barely differ, but the art is pretty and the voice acting is outstanding. It reads more as a short story that wants to be told with minimal gameplay invovlvement, so I treated it as a charming little bedtime story. Skipping already seen dialogue, it took me 40 min to get all achievements. I didn't get any crashes, but I also played it on the steam deck. Controller controls were a bit iffy. I couldn't get to everything in the menu with the joystick, and it was annoying having to up up up down down down between the skip button and the choice selection. On my desktop PC (linux), I couldn't get it to fullscreen on the screen I needed.
While some small VNs by Ithaqua were clearly prologues to bigger projects, or were tied to their existing franchises by a shared universe, this seems to be just a short, cute standalone story. It shows a spoiled princess of a fantasy kingdom having to choose a suitor, as a peasant rebellion and deteriorating health of her mother might force her to take up reign. It this she is helped by Frel, a mysterious adviser to the crown... The VN looks beautiful and vibrant, is pretty funny and has full, well-executed voice acting. It's tiny (20-25 min), but the writing and production quality make it satisfying enough. One thing I can complain about is how choices, apart from the last two, do not matter, and some are completely pointless – it would probably be better if the game had less of those and focused more on fleshing out the story. But still, it's a nice, short distraction for $2... Why not? ------------- PS If you're interested in quality visual novels, check out my curator page.
