When I was 11 my uncle had a Galaga machine in his basement. I spent a whole summer trying to beat my Dad's high score. I'm a professional streamer now, but that is one of my most cherished gamer memories. Revo takes me back to that summer. It's the first game since geometry wars to capture that feeling. My Dad would have loved this game and when I play it I feel like I'm still trying to beat his Galaga score. That really means a lot to me.
If you are looking for 1-2 hours of fun arcade shooter this is the game for you. Be aware that to many enteties on screen makes it lag. Update: Lag issue seems to be fixed now!
REVO brings back vibes I have not felt since the late 80s and early 90s. This is a fantastic space shooter! If you liked games like Galaga back in your day, then this game is for you. -Shoot up space ships of varying styles and difficulties -Unlock new weapons by defeating bosses -Earn tech points to gain more lives -Gain ammo by killing enemies -Conserve Ammo because you can run out of it (If this happens there is an ammo supply drop) -Beat the game and unlock hard mode. -Fantastic Soundtrack -Fantastic visuals. -Scores are tracked. Play to try and beat your personal bests. The game feels very very arcade-like and it has some really great music and visual neon effects. Everything about this game feels right! REVO provides a good amount of challenge while not being too complex. Rating: 10/10 - It's incredible! Buy it!
A fun arcade shoot em up that i can definitely recommend you to give a chance, music is good, art style is wonderful and the game play is challenging.
Ever heard of games like Space Invaders, Gradius, or Galaga? Well, throw those old boomer games into the nearest toilet, because a new contender for the best, most modern top-down space shooter is on the rise, with Cosmic Misfit's neon-soaked romp through the darkest reaches of space: REVO. All crafted by one man: the coding, the visuals, the effects, even the amazing soundtrack, is all created by a Mister Drew Van Camp, and I am so excited to finally see his gaming vision completed! **This review is for Normal Mode, only** I have playtested this game since its Alpha state, back a few years ago, and I can tell everyone right now that this game has come light years ahead of its origins. Right out the gate, all the way to the finish, you will be challenged with various enemy types, strategically placed to give you one helluva ride. The ammo, tech, health, and shield mechanics all compliment one another, forcing you to be both aggressive against your enemies, but also knowing when to bow out of a fight for a quick shield recharge. All of the different weapons eventually unlocked (through a system reminiscent of Mega Man games) are varied and colorful, and certain combinations of weapons can make a huge difference in some of the levels, or against some of the big bosses. The enemy types, with their myriad of ways to blow your little ship back to Earth, all have a themed, distinct color pallet, and is easily seen throughout the chaos of the visuals. With a sleek, stylized interface divulging all of the important information, a perfectly crafted menu system, and a load of options to get the game to run it the way you want, this is one of the most optimized and complete-feeling indie games I have ever played. Lacking much of a story, it instead thrusts you straight into the action with only your trusty ship, docking bay, and a talking, glowing crystal at your side. You are tasked with weaving your way through forgotten corners of space, with only one goal in mind: survive. Through a more streamlined retro shooting experience, you will get the thrill of a fast-paced shooter, the challenge of a bullet-hell, and the feeling of playing something seen in the arcades back in the 80's and 90's; for me, it felt both nostalgic and fresh! Overall, I have no complaints (other than me wanting more), and I could genuinely suggest this game to just about anyone who plays the vidya. Whenever I get around to playing Hard Mode (which with the Beta version, seemed the perfect way to play this game), I will update my review. GET REVO TODAY!!
Remember those good old DOS games like Tyrian or Galaga? No need to dust of your old 486. Here is something of similar vibe with a sprinkle of some new mechanic and nice visuals.
A fun and fast paced frantic shoot em up that has alot of style. It has a unique presentation with high contrast neon colors and a very catchy soundtrack that you will be humming after you play it. Quite challenging, especially in the later levels, there is some cool weapon upgrades that help you defeat some brutal enemies. The bosses can give you a tough time and will likely take you a few tried to figure out how to beat them. Its a game that is hard to put down, you keep thinking, "one more try". The frantic pace will keep you on your toes!
For those who love the arcade classics (specifically you GALAGA fans) - highly recommend giving REVO a playthrough. It is basically a arcade shooter that has been modernized and "dialed up to 11" with all of the pewpew and neon glowy-ness. No spoilers, but one weapon you unlock later in the game might make you cackle like a madman when you first use it. Soundtrack is a banger too!
Pure arcade shoot’em-up that instantly satisfy with flashy gameplay. Although the campaign has a story, it is not very noteworthy or unique. It takes you through 17 stages where you will have to blast enemies, collect dazzling icons, and destroy bosses. In addition to maneuvering the ship, you may execute four different attacks. There is a rapid basic attack with low damage and a large attack area, a slightly smaller assault with larger and more powerful projectiles, side-weapons that work well against shielded adversaries, and a special area attack that takes time to recharge. New weapons are obtained as you defeat bosses, and they can be equipped before the start of each level. Nothing stops you from using all of your weapons at the same time, but they all require ammunition. However, it is incredibly easy to get back because it drops whenever you hit an enemy. So, as you defeat an entire wave of smaller foes, you will notice a slew of icons flying right at your ship. Even if you run out, a friendly ship will come in and drop some icons. Aside from ammo, there is something called tech that can lead to an extra life. Overall, the game is really simple and lasts only around two hours. Basic enemies perish quickly, and larger enemies and bosses pose little threat. More dangerous foes and bosses have a nice technique of displaying when you cause damage; your bullets fill up a circle, blowing up the adversary or part of it. Beating the game once unlocks boss rush and hard mode.
Steam reviewers often summarize their critiques by saying "I can't put my finger on it, but it just wasn't fun to play." The exact opposite is true here: I can give a number of reasons why this game needs work, but the actual gameplay? This game is straight-up fun to play. The rhythm and flow here is just fun. The enemy design? Fun. I just completed the campaign on normal, and I feel drunk on blazing-neon and shooty-bang-bangs. There is a lot of room to improve, and the developer appears very willing to improve it, but what's here is special already. Well done.
