About

In Starbound, you create your own story - there’s no wrong way to play! You may choose to save the universe from the forces that destroyed your home, uncovering greater galactic mysteries in the process, or you may wish to forego a heroic journey entirely in favor of colonizing uncharted planets.

Settle down and farm the land, become an intergalactic landlord, hop from planet to planet collecting rare creatures, or delve into dangerous dungeons and lay claim to extraordinary treasures.
Discover ancient temples and modern metropolises, trees with eyes, and mischievous penguins. Make use of hundreds of materials and over two thousand objects to build a sleepy secluded cabin in the woods, a medieval castle, underwater arcade, or even a space station.

Starbound has been built from the ground up to be multiplayer and easily moddable. You have the tools to make the universe your own and modify the game to suit your play style - add new items, races, planet types, dungeons, and quests - the possibilities are limitless.

Add-ons
Each DLC is estimated with the same model as a game, then summed — a modeled figure, not reported DLC sales.
Sums Steam only; Xbox, GOG publish no volume signal, so the true total is higher by an unknown amount.
Updates
Build ids and update times come straight from Steam's PICS — the same source SteamDB reads. Patch history grows as we record new builds.

the kind of mid that sears into the back of your mind for all time. ideologically suspect in design (you already work for the space united nations from the start and essentially become a kind of colonial bandit as the story progresses, additional faction of "vaporwave" space cop to join if you seek a veneer of legitimacy for your violence, easy landlordism for accumulating additional resources from npcs living in your base) and allegedly a space terraria clone, this game is nonetheless crack for the avali and protogen generation of furries. its greatest virtue is what we call by modern standards its "abandonment", leaving a vibrant community of modders to serve as its spine. the modders aren't without controversy themselves either, as a small but visible minority are known thieves, occasionally bigoted, and alleged "mean people" who still make this game worth coming back to at all. seeing the beta spaceships in a magazine somewhere really awed me when i was twelve and to this day the player spaceship is one of the aesthetically strongest places to build in this game. a decade after its release we also have the modern luxury of openstarbound, a rebuilt engine which is much, much better at running 500+ mods at once than the original, because we all know what this game is about now.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Abandoned, unfinished, unfun. Avoid.
No Man's sky é melhor em tudo no que esse game se propõem a fazer. Esse jogo foi abandonado nem compre.
Is to terraria what No Man's Sky is to Minecraft. It's great
It's a great game. The issue is space travel, for me. There's never just one place to call home but the spacecraft. Maybe a space station. Even then, there's not exactly much to do but roleplay if not speedrun the main story. And roleplay requires friends or servers - I've never been on a server, so don't quote me on that. I had a friend to play this with, though we eventually cut ties due to a growing mis-match between our lives and friendship styles.
Abandoned by the devs...its so sad, it had so much potential!
Lmao just saw an advertisement for this on twitter an entire decade after it was fumbled and abandoned. Realized I never reviewed this, as an original backer from the humble indie bundle days, I can assure you this ♥♥♥♥ was fumbled hard from what was promised. Also, not even going to get into the ethical issues that apparently came to light when it comes to the supposed child slave labor that was implemented to create this mess. (yeah, look it up)
这个游戏最致命的就是MOD冲突会闪退游戏开不了,导致要一个个排查,最终放弃····不知道是否有高人可以解决这个问题
我恨这个傻逼公司
i would reccomend this, but also, chucklefish. look into them. i beg of thee.
