It's nice looking. That's about it for the positives. It's a simplistic real-time starship combat game with poor controls and uninteresting ships that don't feel good to command. It has ships that do nothing but ram - and which are vulnerable to a different kind of ramming ship. You can't pause, and you can't give orders to more than one ship at a time, beyond "everyone attack."
Alexander and Brandon were guests on The Hive VR, so our team were provided with keys to their game. However, on The Hive, we never promote anything we don't like. I've played Tactera and I enjoyed that, but Starblazer has some other unique elements that I love. For one, this game has got personality. The loading menu has interactable objects, so you can get lost just picking them up, but perhaps not too long before you're greeted by a sassy bot egging you to start the game. Once inside the training center, you can teleport around various display stations highlighting each ship for battle. It smartly displays the ships working in real-time so you're able to gauge the timing and trajectory. The room could benefit from a few more guidelines, but I believe that's in the works. The design and feel of this game is retro, cool, an colorful. I love the aesthetic. It really brings you into an environment that makes you smile as you play. It's super cute. I actually think I spent a little too much time exploring the different rooms because it is so detailed. I'd love to just hang out in a place like this in VR. There are plenty of fun easter eggs and elements that you can play with. You can tell the creators love design and music. Their passions really show in this game. Aside from that, it's important to highlight how cool the Starblazer team is with their player base. They are friendly, helpful, and kind. I asked them if they be a part of a VR project and they worked on their portion immediately. Alexander streams his WIP and it's cool to see it in... real-time... lol. If you like RTS, then this game will have the basic components of it within a beautifully designed game that reels you in. I'm excited to see what else they create in this game and beyond.

This game is very fun and offers the right amount of challenge for someone who is experienced in RTS style of games. This being VR makes it more fun to me to have a real Enders Game kind of control and feel. Any and all bugs found are fixed much quicker then most games i play the Developers are very responsive and open about the games development. The fact that this a RTS VR game was and still is very appealing to me its a Genre of games that VR is lacking in my opinion having played RTS games for as long as i have been a gamer just like FPS's. The Multiplayer atm is bragging rights in the community (Which the community for this game are very talented and respectful people) but the game will be evolving and unlike many early access games here on steam the game is constantly being worked on improved and optimized. If you are curious of the game i can recommend this game to veteran and new comers to both VR and RTS games alike and if you want to learn more about the development and what will be coming to the game join the StarBlazers discord and watch their youtube channel of the same name updates and patches are discussed and shown at both places quite often. For those still not sure on the game or whether its for you or not i suggest giving it a go the developers put the game on sale as often as they can so you pay as little as possible for it. I have met plenty of people who aren't into RTS games love this game for many reasons and I'm not the only RTS veteran in the community.
Starblazer is micromanagement focused RTS that could be fun, but it got way too many problems with AI to be enjoyable. Updated the review after release, a lot of issues were fixed but AI is still bad. Pros: + Very active developer, most of the pathfinding and control issues were fixed very quickly + Rock-Paper-Scissors balance approach works really well here and can provide a lot of tactical depth Cons: - Enemy AI has no idea what it's doing. It seemingly picks one target for every unit at random and completely ignores anything else. Sometimes it gives certain units no commands at all, kinda like it forgot about them. Even on Hard difficulty you can win the match using just 2 fighters and a healer - Navigation with waypoints in 3D space is quite awkward, Final Assault uses much more intuitive and responsive controls for the aviation - Production of new units is done only when factory unit is selected and does not allow any queues
If you like a challenging game with awesome visual effects this is the game for you!!! Love the squid… Can’t wait to see what you all design next. Keep up the great work.
Just gonna perform a quick edit... Starblazer is a VR RTS that takes place in SPACE! I met the devs back in 2019 at Pax South, when that was still around, and they were enjoyable and courteous. It was easy to see their passion for their game, and they even held twitch streams that showed them working on Starblazer. Even though I didn't have even an hour on the game, I enjoyed it; I just wasn't as big into VR as I thought. However, it's definitely a piece of work that would be enjoyable for anyone who's into RTS games. The only sad part is that the game has yet to receive any kind of update since September 2020, when it came out of early access. But luckily, they do have a significant update planned, so who knows what will come next. Nevertheless, keep up the fight, space commander.
Game reminds me a lot of the PC game Homeworld, just a little more simplified. I've yet to battle anyone online, but the other modes have already given me hours of entertainment. The recently added puzzle mode is a good way to get to know the game. There are some minor issues, but that is why it is in early access. The developers are really receptive to feedback, so if you have suggestions or feedback, jump in their Discord and let them know.
For the sake of honesty , I was given a key to this game so that I could play in the beta and review it. This is also an Early Access review, so keep in mind that the content discussed here may change later in time. Starblazer is a well designed virtual reality strategy game that allows you to challenge AI (only AI for now, apparently pvp will come in the future) to a strategy match in which you attempt to destroy their flagship in a handful of reasonably enjoyable maps. This is a simple goal, but matches can be heart-racing experiences where you continually move your flagship out of harms way, attempting to scour the map to even find the opponent flagship. The only major con that I had with this game is the control system is somewhat difficult to get used to , and could certainly use a little bit more tuning for greater accessibility. It could also have a few more ship types and some balance (snipers OP) to help increase it's longevity. overall fun game, look forward to seeing it grow in the future! 4/5 , would recommend to any VR user.
Watch my video here https://youtu.be/VaHs8oKgkAY Sharpe looking space fleet RTS game. Small arenas with a few cool units to pick from. All units have a purpose and counter each other. Easy, normal and hard modes to pick in single player and there is a multiplayer to. Only downside is it is short and to easy for the price tag.
Love this game ... it got me hooked really quickly .. i started to play and soon it was over an hour gone . Great strategy game ..
