What a perfect example of a game with so many unique and original ideas, only to completely destroy it with negligence toward the player experience, if anything this game feels anti-player sometimes, cheap, punishing, wasting your time with respawn consistency, poorly designed boss difficulty, and just not very intuitive. Did you have anyone actually finish it - and they didn't complain about anything? This game probably gave me at least 10 different reasons to stop playing it, and any reasonable person would give up by now, but there is a cool game in there, it's just that, why make it so much harder than it needs to be, just because you know what to do, does not mean the players will understand it. Despite not making the best first impression, there are some really cool moments of escapism in this game, it's very over the top, absurd, funny, and actually has some pretty funky animation and strange gameplay ideas in certain parts. No doubt, there is some Undertale, Mother & Yume Nikki DNA, but what I really like is that the overall vibes feel mostly original, the narrative and the way the character interact is unlike any JRPG that I played, I mean one of the character is literally a toilet, and it has a toilet handle for a weapon, and the seat for armor. The first boss you meet can kill you in literally 1 hit, you can't really properly farm previous areas, I am not sure how intentional it is, but some enemies won't respawn, and it hardly feels like there is any benefit to exp, or the cheese that is barely enough to buy anything useful. Maybe there is a way to defeat enemies through the various combat options, but I often find myself using the instant kill mechanic which increases the cost of saving the game, yea what brilliant idea - when sometimes you can run into a boss that sends you to the main menu, without you having a choice on the matter. I think the best part of your game is just the character and the atmosphere it creates, you could have made a walking simulator in the engine and it would be perfect, it's actually really fun exploring it and running into all these weird areas where I assume you made a custom lyrics. I don't mind the JRPG gameplay, if anything the style that you went for made it very charming, it almost feels a bit like a hip hop JRPG, but it's just too hard to figure out the fights through conventional means, and it's actually not worth the time to do so, if you ask me. If you can maybe find a better balance between unconventional design and stat management, I think it would be so much better. Later in the game it becomes more of a metroidvania, using various power ups to interact and find hidden places. It didn't feel like it at first, but it also has some Yume NIkki vibes later on, the locations get very psychedelic, and the entire game feels like a wild dream. A ton of things to do, things to find. Dev said it's 3 hours but I don't think you'll find everything in that time, I am 10+ in, still finding more things to do.
Pros:
(+) Just looking at the game it might be easy to dismiss it, but if you keep playing I think you will realize it's like Mother/EB on steroids, sometimes it gives me vibes I never experienced in other JRPG games. So if nothing else, it's somewhat original, both with the vibes, and the way it plays around with the game design. (+) Personally I really like all of the weird animations you made for this game, also there are some original songs as well or? (+) Later in the game there are a lot of interesting gameplay elements and perspective/genre modifications (+) A lot of fun & rewarding exploration, it's not really 3 hours as dev says, it's full of secrets and ways to waste time
Feedback:
I think the way JRPG/Boss fights work now are gating the game too much, Consider: - nerfing damage of the bosses - allowing the player to power creep on enemies more (right now it seems there is little benefit to it, maybe more store items to prepare for the fight, or some proper leveling - why do some fights reset you to the main menu? It's kinda cheap - perhaps improve the hints, say equip lighter on the hand slot, instead of saying look at the inventory -maybe cap save penalty at 200 Overall Thoughts: 7/10 (I think the game is better than that, it's just some quality of life issues holding it back) This game genuinely has some amazing moments, it's just a matter of keeping your sanity playing it to get to them. It would be a real shame if players give up playing this game early on, and I think there is a good chance many players will, and it's because the boss fights feel too unfair right now, and there is no way to power-creep to their level properly, so it often feels like trial and error, either cheesing* them or hoping you get lucky. I don't mind the unconventional design you doing, if anything I kinda like it, but when it comes to farming and balancing, I think you went a little too far there, you pretty much gating your game, might as well have a sign "stop playing it". Funny pictures and dialogue but the combat is awful. Everything just one shots you in this game?
After an only hour of playing, I already feel the need to say something. Wow. That's all.
I didn't bother to finish this game, but I would describe this game using these keywords: bizarre, absurd, anti-player and cryptic. And no, the term "surreal" doesn't really describe what I experienced. But at least it has much more effort than some paid RPGMaker games in my library that got "I want to permanently remove this game from my account" treatment. P.S. I question the sanity of the developers.
RPG Maker strikes again! This is yet another RPG Maker asset flip, a low effort kitbash made with the Final Fantasy ripoff construction kit, RPG Maker, in their own words, "These easy to use tools are simple enough for a child". This is just a cringey high school anime club dropout fan-fiction combined with extremely poor quality retro game assets. The developer was unable to work out how to use RPG Maker to create a crappy JRPG, which is the only thing it can do (and it's very bad at doing this). Instead, they made what's basically more of an e-book/visual novel than a game... a very badly written e-book. The topic is incredibly cringey and pretentious political commentary about an introvert being exposed to the world and not liking it. There's a lot of basement dweller vibes coming off this. As with all RPG Maker games, this is the result of a really bad game engine being misused. Like all RPG Maker "games", it looks bad in fullscreen and lacks HD support or graphics options. This is not acceptable for modern PC gamers. The argument must be made that construction kit toys like RPG Maker are intended for making small games, toys and demos to pass around with friends, and should never be used as a substitute for professional game development. This game uses some bespoke art instead of stock assets. We know this because the custom art looks even crappier than the stock, flipped RPG Maker assets. PC gamers expect and deserve quality, high fidelity, immersive 3D visuals, not this lazy crapware. The game also tries to tackle some serious issues. Trying to address serious issues such as mental and emotional health through the medium of video games is misguided and can be harmful. While it's plausible to suggest the intention was noble, this can do more harm than good. The "developer" here is not a professional in areas of mental health and social problems, and when they use video games to pretend they are, this is not only utterly ineffective, it can be harmful. It's my opinion that it's improper to use video games to address mental health issues. Apart from the harm such hamfisted attempts at addressing social problems can cause, this offers zero benefit to PC gamers. People suffering from health issues or other social problems should seek out professional help rather than going to crap shovelware video games attempting to get attention/fame by exploiting such problems for their own benefit, as is the case here. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this game. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." So you'll spend a huge amount of time not playing the game, but clicking through endless lines of poorly written VN text cutscenes because the developers couldn't work out how to relate their narrative through the game mechanics, and decided instead it would be better to compete with reading a book for your time. We're here to play games, not read through hours of garbage intersituals. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. In terms of visuals, this features really godawful MS-Paint tier "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. The deplorably bad visuals here come across as an insult to gamers. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. A peak of 3 concurrent players (according to SteamDB) for a "free" game is a disastrous public reception. Out of 130 million potential players here on Steam, almost nobody was interested. Even though this is "free". That level of rejection speaks a lot for the quality of the game. Given that this free game won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
too real downvote its hard but that makes sense and adds to the charm

This is a must-play
It’s like if Earthbound and a meme had a baby and named it after a calamari dish! Get ready for hand-drawn art and voice acting that’ll have you questioning your life choices and laughing at the absurdity of it all. With multiple endings, you can choose your path: will you be the hero who saves the day or just the guy who forgot to bring snacks to the party? Spoiler alert: it's probably the snacks.
