Abandoned by the dev without finishing, doesn't export .vox, removed 3D view, never updated and buttons don't work. Crashes and has many issues
Its a shame, Spritestack clicked with me a lot. I found its user-interface really easy to understand and leverage. It has the ability to do color palette-swapping really easy, and its 3D preview window helps you build your sprites. I never tried to do animation just yet, but it doesn't seem too bad in its current form. Can't really recommend even though I want to. At this time it appears to be abandonware with some critical issues that haven't been solved. + .vox export was working at some point, now it doesn't. + Import slicesheet has chance to overwrite your existing file - really bad because it WILL wipe out all your work. + Inability to merge 2 spritestack .zip files. + Importing slicesheet is bugged. + Exporting sprites with shadow creates offset sprite. + Can't select vertical stacks of pixels. For these reasons, it's not really worth a buy at this time. Examples to bolster my perspective, I made the following: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2283451882 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2283450588
it's looked promising, but as i see it's abandoned, so many functionalities dont work and drawing its much more difficult than it should be
Very high potential, but abandoned soft with missing core features... should have a lot more of QoL enhancements.
I had high hopes for this product and wanted to recommend it, but unfortunately, the creator seems to have abandoned the Steam version. They are now pushing people to pledge donations on their Patreon instead. The Steam version, which I paid for, never receives updates, and I still haven't received what I paid for. There are several basic and essential features that have been missing since I purchased the product years ago, and the software hasn't been updated since 2019. To make matters worse, it seems like the creator doesn't even make an effort to update their social media channels. It's really disappointing to see this product effectively become abandonware, especially considering how useful it could have been based on its initial promise. I suggest saving your money for a better alternative.
Exporting to .vox doesn't work.
Abandoned, and a recent update removed features and broke others.
Modeling layer by layer? interesting but ineffective. It's more of a learning tool than an editor & modeling, MagicaVoxel & Blender could get things done much faster, obviously, if you know how to. Recommend if you're trying to get used to 3D from 2D and need something in between. Unrecommend as design software, it lacks basic things like line/ellipse tool.
Sadly, the dev has fallen into a cycle of "feature creep": constantly adding new features to the public release goals, while trying to 'improve' existing features that are already in a functional and usable state - despite having set back the planned release window several times. I cannot in good conscience recommend you buy this product - in fact, I warn you against it and even advise against supporting their Patreon. The developer has failed to hold to release promises so repeatedly that I have little faith anymore in there ever being a proper public release. All the effort in the world is worthless if they can't reign back and focus on a finished product.
