Once again I am asking Valve for a neutral button. This game is vastly superior to Cosmic Shake, but overall a very neutral game. It's not bad, but it's also not so good that I would recommend anyone play. Unlike Cosmic Shake, this game actually has challenges and requires a bit of thinking to finish the puzzles and to find the collectibles. However, because it originally released in 2003, it plays like a 2003 collectathon platformer. With the remake they didn't bother fixing any of the bugs (you can lose socks if you're not careful and don't collect them IMMEDIATELY, meaning you may lose the ability to unlock the 100% achievement), which is unfortunate. They did, however, prioritise patching a glitch where you could enter the useless theater.. so.. that's cool. This game also lacks any settings. You legit only get an option for resolution and if you want it full-screened. Nothing else. So if you're a huge Spongebob and platformer fan, I'd say play this over any of the other Spongebob games, otherwise just skip it.

I never played the original so I can't say if it's better, but it's a great love letter to that game and the people who grew up with it. The new visuals fit this game's charm pretty well, and the charm is totally intact (that's miraculous ngl). The gameplay and controls are simple but work really well with the game's pacing. The bosses are kinda whatever, maybe because the true focus of the game is the collectathon, which I think is well sized; it isn't too daunting nor too little. I'm not too familiar with 3D collectathons but I had a great time with this one. Aside from some minor bugs and the fact that I couldn't get my 100% save file right for whatever reason (I had to grab the last 2 socks I needed in a new file for it to register as complete), yeah; le good game. Also I love the fact that the game is dubbed into every language Spongebob is dubbed to, and every official VA from each dub participated in it. I love it when that happens

Overall this game was a great experience. To be able to replay this game on steam with updated graphics was a quality of life improvement over the original. That being said there were some minor drawbacks to be considered. Though this game did run fairly well on my quite archaic hardware, there were a few spots such as Goo Lagoon and the Shipyard that would drop well below 30 fps and honestly give me a slight headache at times. These minor drawbacks though did not take away from the overall great experience this game provides and was not all too difficult to 100% everything.
