With an asterisk. Lemme explain. The original Battle for Bikini Bottom is a cult classic, a shining example of a great licensed videogame title, and it's not for no good reason. The gameplay was fun the writing was on point, and it felt like a true SpongeBob adventure that did everything right (for the most part) after the wet fart that was Revenge of the Flying Dutchman (not speaking from experience but it did not get a very good reputation after it's release back in 2002). So it comes as no surprise that, much like the likes of Sonic Adventure and Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, people clamoured for a Remake. nearly 20 years later and we got Rehydrated. Was the wait worth it? Kind of. Rehydrated, as it's own game, is pretty fun. But the fact it is a remake makes it's comparisons to the original unavoidable, quite frankly being the only worthwhile point of discussion, so it had to get everything it possibly could get right as a remake, and... it fumbles a bit. The game does not feel at all like the original with slightly broken physics that don't feel as good, sometimes with cons like a slower and worse-controlling Cruise Bubble, and some pros like Sandy's lasso attack being a little faster now, but the cons outweight a bunch of the pros. The animations, while def better looking graphically, lack a lot of the movement and flowiness of the original, being a lot stiffer than they could have been if it was given greater attention, not to mention how the recreation of most of the cutscenes just feel very off, the usage of the original audio for the english version not helping at all with that (an issue that might me miligated with the added languages that didn't get a dub in the original, thus needing to record new audio for them); although, in their defense, this was Purple Lamp's first SB game before The Cosmic Shake, which is a visual treat from beginning to end with very expressive animations and lively movement from the characters, so I'll cut them some slack and say they were still figuring out how the characters were going to be animated. The graphics look absolutely stunning, though, with how it took a pre-movie SpongeBob game and completely modernized it to fit with the show's current aesthetic, character designs included. it really is a shame that the animations don't really use these visuals to it's fullest. The only true improvements to the game's feel are a few QOL additions and changes to make the experience less of a slog, but it's not enough to a point where it should be played over the original. That being said, it still is Battle for Bikini Bottom at it's core, and the game is very much functional and playable despite all the weird glitches you might find in your way. that's why I said "with an asterisk" in the beginning. Do I recommend this game? Yes*. *If you're not looking for the absolute perfect way to play Battle for Bikini Bottom, because this one ain't it. But if you don't have such high standards, it's a very serviceable experience for achievement hunters, completionists and casual gamers alike. It's a game worthy of being displayed on your profile. But if anything I said about it's aniamtions and gameplay threw you off and you're not sure if you'd want this game, then I recommend checking out The Cosmic SHake instead, as it seems to promise a way more polished experience (along with it not needing to rest on the premise of being a remake of a beloved title).
Cool game
Esta increible
I had a bigger personal attachement to the movie game, but BFBB wasn't too bad either (The Slide theme in the movie game is better). This game goes on sale pretty often and it's pretty fun, too. Should be noted there was a lot of bugs. Nothing too intrusive, but still rather noticeable.
Absolute love letter to the original and a great addition to anyones collection. The game looks pretty and you do feel like you're really going on a Spongebob style adventure. If you enjoyed the original this deserves your attention.
An excellent remaster of a classic that I loved to play on GameCube.
Absolutely not! While the game starts out strong, and with the Spongebob name and world to back it up, it quickly becomes repetitive and boring. Very few abilities to play with, too easy, and too straightforward. No thank you.
I never played this in the past and everyone said it was good so I bought it on sale. Was able to 100% the game in 18 hours though, somewhat short for a collectathon. Game is fun though except for a few little bugs here and there but nothing major. Very vibrant graphics.
