Had so much potential sad to see it go and the second game isn't any better.
Played the game primarily on Xbox almost 7 years ago. It's kinda crazy how far Splitgate outshines both the entire Splitgate 2/AR release and the Empulse demo without any offical servers. Reasons for that ordered from current to deprecated:

The game has exactly zero player specific loadouts, which means that the meta has nothing to do with what you do before the match. I don't want to have to do research in order to not be way behind in the unranked game modes, if i wanted loadouts I would play COD or something.
The movement feels much better than it did in SG2 and is much more vertical, a problem which had been partially remedied in Empulse.
The weapons have a relatively long TTK (except power weapons such as the shotgun, sniper, rocket launcher, etc.), which makes it actually feel like an arena shooter, also partially remedied in Empulse.
The skill based matchmaking (SBMM) was much less engagement based, meaning if you had one really good match it wouldn't immediately stick you into an unwinnable matchup. It made the game challenging if whether you were good or bad, without making it seem unfair the instant you "overperformed" according to the SBMM algorithm. [strike]The engagement based matchmaking in SG2 and Empulse is very much a general issue with modern large PvP games, particularly shooters, but I don't play many PvP games anymore so those were the first that came to mind. [/strike]
This list is not comprehensive, but many of the other reasons I could give are either nitpicky or buried somewhere in my subconscious, where I can't really put them into words but I felt them every time I played SG2 or Empulse. Ultimately the issues with this game come back to trying to be big instead of trying to be Splitgate. Adding portals into COD doesn't Splitgate 2, it makes COD with portals, and we already have COD. I miss Splitgate. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, I hope I got the formatting right.
Played this game back on my xbox when it released. Had so much potential to be one of the best games oat. So disappointing to see it die
If you enjoyed Portal But you also wanted to shoot people like Halo Welcome to Splitgate.
👍 Recommended? Portal + Halo should never have worked. It somehow became one of my favourite shooters ever made. Whoever looked at Halo and Portal and said, "Let's combine them." deserves a raise. The skill ceiling wasn't high. It was in orbit. You weren't getting out-aimed. You were getting shot through three portals by someone with the spatial awareness of NASA. Every killcam looked illegal. Meanwhile I was accidentally portaling myself directly into the enemy team for the eighteenth time. Splitgate never took itself too seriously. It was just pure fun. No billion-dollar live service strategy. No twenty-seven currencies. Just portals, ridiculous plays, and "HOW DID HE GET THERE?" I miss it.
Still bummed they cut support to start the ♥♥♥♥ show that is the 2nd game :(
You don't know how good you have it untill it's gone. Good times all round, Way better than the new game.
I miss you everyday. You were the best arena shooter ever. But you are dead now. RIP
