내 손꾸락이 문제다 ㅎㅎ;;
Split Square, developed by Shedin and published by PsychoFlux Entertainment, is a compact action roguelite that merges deck-building strategy with fast-paced 2D combat. At first glance, it presents itself as a minimalist pixel-art dungeon crawler, but beneath its simple presentation lies a surprisingly layered system built around adaptability, synergy, and tactical planning. Rather than overwhelming players with complex systems or sprawling maps, the game distills its ideas into tight, repeatable runs that emphasize skill selection and moment-to-moment decision-making. The central mechanic revolves around constructing and refining a deck of skill cards that dictate your combat capabilities. Before entering a sequence of procedurally generated rooms, players assemble a selection of abilities from those they’ve unlocked. During encounters, only a limited subset of these skills becomes available, forcing players to think carefully about how their deck is structured. This design ensures that preparation outside of combat is just as important as reflexes within it. Building a deck with cohesive synergy—whether focusing on aggressive burst damage, defensive survivability, or mobility-oriented tactics—becomes the key to surviving deeper into each run. Combat itself strikes a balance between accessibility and tension. Movement and attacks are responsive, and enemies feature varied patterns that require attention and adaptation. Rooms often present clusters of opponents with different behaviors, encouraging players to use their skill cards creatively rather than relying on repetitive tactics. Because abilities are drawn from the deck in limited combinations, no two encounters feel exactly the same. This randomness, while sometimes unpredictable, reinforces the roguelite identity and challenges players to adjust strategies on the fly. Procedural generation plays a significant role in maintaining replayability. Room layouts, enemy placements, and the availability of new cards or upgrades shift with each run, creating a dynamic progression loop. Even when the overarching structure remains familiar, the details vary enough to prevent stagnation. Unlocking new abilities gradually expands the pool of possible builds, giving players incentives to experiment with different combinations and playstyles. The satisfaction of discovering a powerful synergy between skills adds a rewarding layer of strategic depth. Visually, Split Square adopts a clean pixel-art aesthetic that prioritizes clarity over spectacle. Character sprites and enemy designs are simple but distinct, ensuring that combat remains readable even when multiple elements fill the screen. The environments are modest in detail, yet they provide enough variation to avoid monotony. The art direction complements the gameplay’s focus on mechanics rather than narrative or cinematic immersion. This minimalist style also supports performance fluidity, keeping action smooth and responsive. Audio design follows a similarly restrained philosophy. Sound effects are functional and crisp, providing feedback for attacks, impacts, and ability usage. The background music supports the pace of combat without dominating attention, maintaining a steady atmosphere that complements extended play sessions. While not particularly elaborate, the audio presentation reinforces the overall cohesion of the experience. One of the game’s strengths lies in its approachable scale. Runs are concise enough to encourage repeated attempts without demanding excessive time investment. This makes it well-suited for players who enjoy bite-sized roguelike sessions with clear progression goals. However, its relatively contained scope may also limit its appeal for those seeking expansive content or narrative complexity. Split Square is firmly rooted in mechanical refinement rather than storytelling. Ultimately, Split Square succeeds by blending action and deck-building into a focused, replay-driven framework. It does not attempt to revolutionize either genre but instead refines familiar elements into a cohesive whole. The interplay between strategic deck construction and responsive combat creates a loop that is both thoughtful and engaging. For players who appreciate roguelites that reward experimentation and careful planning, Split Square offers a polished and satisfying experience that thrives on synergy, adaptability, and incremental mastery.
