Run, jump and shoot everything that stands in your way. Then you die and try again. Maybe a bit more wiser about what challenges lie ahead, maybe with an idea on how to escape this situation, or maybe not.

This is a hidden gem!
Splinter Zone is a Mega Man-like Scoreattack Platformer, and a game about perfection. (Just to make that clear, I played the game more than Steam says, I played it for around 30h in its beta state and played just about all earlier versions that were available) Splinter Zone features - uhm... a bunch of - levels in six different settings with all their own platforming challenges, like ice, buildings that breack down, or platforms that activate/deactivate alternately as the player jumps, presented in mostly random order in sequences of 4 levels (firstly an easy one, then medium, then hard, and then medium again) and one of the six bosses (you guessed it, every setting has one boss). Furthermore, as one may need to get the real high scores, for (at least nearly) every killed enemy, the player gets xp, which both levels up their weapon aswell as their multiplier up to level four. As they get hit though, they loose some (currently 50%) of their xp and with that both level and multiplier, but also is the score that might have been multiplied added to the overall score just as it is. So, to get the real high score, the player has to activate Hyper Mode, which gives them rapid fire and heals them for a limited time, after which they are back on level one and have their stored score multiplied by the level they were on. Now, the game would kind of get easy after learning the levels a bit, wouldn't it? So, ok, it still does get somewhat easy as I can tell, but the damage the player takes is increased every 10 min in a run, which makes the game become far less forgiving the longer the player survives. There are also multiple secrets hidden throughout levels, which
add extra enemies to the levels, and requires the player to somewhat learn them again.
Oh, and Splinter Zone allows players to cheat! It has a cheat menu where damage taken and dealt can be changed and other helpful thing like rapid fire can be activated. Oh, I didn't talk about presentation jet. The pixelart is ok with interesting colortones, the music is really nice. Ok, thats kinda it. Would get thrown to death with toasts again.
It's cool
This game is so good. It was made with so much passion. I had high hopes, but it turned out to be a true gem! The only reason I bought a computer was, to finally get my hands on Splinter Zone. I admire the guy who made this piece. Stay the course, buy the game! This guy is so talented! Support him and his craft!
If you enjoy the endless modes in Mega Man 9 and 10, you'll love this game.
Enjoyed the movement, and I thought the game was alright, even with its rough edges.

Cool run-and-gun game with tight controls. Rewards practice and mastery, with a nice soundtrack, too. If you’re the type of person who enjoys a challenge in 2D platformers, and testing your own skill against yourself, then this is the game for you.
fun and easy to "pick up and play" so to speak, especially love the extra crunchy sfx
An amazingly controlling run & gun with some Mega Man vibes and when you explode the enemies, boy do they really explode! Also if you're like me and not so great at video games sometimes there's a handy built-in difficulty settings menu to make things easier if you're having trouble/
