Spiritlands is a very interesting clicker game made in a pleasant pixel art environment. If you are fan of the genre, this is for sure a must play.
This would be a pretty cool game if someone invested more in polishing it but it's been abandoned by the developer so definitely a NO BUY. Game concept is casual and fun - as a lover of 4X like civ and humankind, I would enjoy playing it a lot if not for the huge UI problems: - settlement info supposed to appear for the settlement you are looking at but a huge number of times the game just doesn't identify this correctly and you have to fiddle around with the camera until the interface windows update - a simple zoom out causes a lot of movement lag for some reason - buildings do not render after loading a save - clicks on buttons to increase workers are kinda sketchy, almost feels like sometimes the game does not register the click properly.
I have played many resource gathering and factory management games with a taste of survival and this is just another one. But this one kept me longer busy then the other ones. Using tiles as playground. The Learning Curve can be overwhelming, because the game is very complex and overcomplete, but designed in a genius way, that once you know where everything is (the tutorial is awesome by the way) the game just plays intuitive. Upgrade Skill Tree (more like perks, you gather your amount of discoveries which gets translated to research, resulting in unlocking a perk which can make progression better and maybe even faster) Simple Resource Gathering (wood/stone/coal/food) How you do it, that is your adventure with all the additional extra resources like (leather/flowers/skins/etc..) A Nice Big Map to explore (exploring with building campfires on tiles, close to what is invisible, to reveal more of the map, if you see structures like ancient temples, graves and such, you send in a bunch of explorers to investigate the area and find treasure - which is either a silver chest or a gold chest - silver chests contains a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of resources like (wood/stone/coal/food) and the gold chests contain a reasonable amount. But they are your boosters, if you don't have enough resources and you want progression FAST. (I believe the map is generated as well) The enemy is funny, how it works but as soon as I found the enemy, I paid tribute first and then attacked it. So it would not send an army to my kingdom. So, that "problem" was pretty much easily solved. So exploring the map can give you riches but also revealing the enemy. When I said, paying tribute and then attack. You can only attack one enemy at a time, as long you have a higher defense level then the enemy (that you win the battle) and the tribute only lasts 4 seasons. Not a big of a deal if you have a proper kingdom running with lots of houses, lots of lumberjacks, quarries and farms. Now the farm, Jesus, I had to make so many but the tiles are so limited. You can only build a farm on a grass tile. So if your location isn't quite idealistic, might be tricky. BUT this game isn't that hard, the amount of ancient structures to loot are abundend, so you basically never run out of resources. I do have to admit, my first run resulted in failure. My second run however, kept keeping me busy. The music however, gave me a feeling from years ago, when I was designing an amusement park in Rollercoaster Tycoon. Just Weird... Day & Night cycles and the 4 seasons, so when WINTER comes, production of food slows down, food gets consumed more, same for coal, for heating their houses against the cold. Yep, this game thought about everything. However, some interactive popups overlap eachother, resulting me to build the marketplace on the outer side of the kingdom's reach. Like I wanted to level up each building to level 10 (which is max) - because I had a perk activated which raises happiness for each building reaching the 10th level. So you see an indication how much resources you collect per second with each productive building. Simple enough right? When you see a number with a minus, then you know that the building needs an upgrade, or more people (workers). But people also need care, otherwise they become unhappy and they put their own house on fire. LOGIC!!! xD The Hospital house should prevent illness? I don't think that building works. Like people still get sick, even one tile higher then the building itself. But it's okay, you can heal them anyways in a matter of 2 seconds. I see this game as complete (except for the working part of the hospital and that certain popups as interactive menus and building buttons can overlap eachother - resulting in clicking the wrong building while all you want to do is leveling up the building), fully playable, you get teached how things work with a tutorial (not many games have that, even these days - with progression in game development, 2018... -_- ehhmm... Right...) This game will give you a lot of joy and it will steal some of your precious hours of living. xD Thank you @developer, this game was an awesome experience, loved it from the beginning to it's end.
Spiritlands. I've played it for 2 and a half hours in the last week, and I will tell you now, I am addicted. Me and my buddy streamed this and it's a very fun game to play. I'd recommend this to my friends and say that this game is very stable for how new the game is. However, the game is a bit unbalanced in some aspects such as the chance of iron drops or lether. I have noticed it takes a while to get a sustainable amount of iron and lether and still two hours in I have not got sustainable amounts. I think this could be an easy fix. As well, when first starting the game I was slightly confused in some aspects such as how to add farmers to farm, although that was probably my fault in not reading instructions. The game is overall very enjoyable and fun.
Overall, Spiritlands is a well-built game that can give you hours of fun thanks to the endless possibilities the game creates. The way the game incorporates different systems such as faith, which you can use to your advantage to give you boosts, or how it lets you choose between being an aggressive or peaceful leader is well-balanced and means that it is suitable for all manner of people who have different playstyles. That’s not to say there aren’t still bugs that need ironing out or things that could be improved upon, but taking into consideration that this game was made by a single person, it really is an impressive indie title. Great little game about building cities. There is fighting and defending them but it's automatic more or less. You need to send troops to attack what you want. Build, gather and upgrade, conquer new land and repeat.
