For 5€ you can play a card game not focused on the "roguelike path". That's enough for me to give it a thumbs up. Of course there's still the RNG system, and of course there's grinding (it's a "RPG"). Some mechanics could be better and there are some balance issues, but again, for this price you get a decent RPG card game with lot of content, classes and replayability.

awesome CCG deckbuilder adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons
allows even class combinations that wouldn't go well in D&D
easy enough for beginners, complex enough for advanced players
doesn't have the most engaging graphics, but the ones it has are beautiful
A must-buy for fans of the genre imo.
Very fub gane A bit hard for my liking but fun nevertheless.
"A nice single-player card game that's perfect for casual to midcore players, Spellsword Cards: Demontide also does a great job of easing players new to the genre into the game." Spellsword Cards: Demontide is a pretty easy-to-get-into card game that focuses on deck-building. Different enemies will have different resistances in this game, and only by having the "correct" deck with the "correct" cards will you be able to more easily defeat them. You can also equip up to 3 different types of skills and you'll have plenty to choose from depending on your particular brand of playstyle.
Watch me play!
Campaign: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eOgyAYoClI Besides having enough card and skill variety, Demontide has several different classes too, each of them having a specific talent in a certain area. I haven't tried any other class besides Warrior, as recommended by the tutorial, but from my experience, the Warrior class emphasizes more on the hero him/herself, so you would probably have little to no summoned minions and a ton more weapons. I reckon this would be different if you play as a rogue or a priest. The game also comes with several game modes, namely Campaign, Gauntlet, Arena and Puzzles. I haven't tried any of the game modes, besides Campaign, yet since I'm more interested in the story at the moment. The story goes something like this - you are an orphan who was raised by a kind older gentleman called Caleb. One day, there was a curse of some sort that turned all steel brittle and since steel is used to make weapons, this cursed effectively rendered an entire nation defenseless. Caleb seems to know more than he let on but he only revealed to you that the peaceful days you have enjoyed is over. He insisted that they should travel to the Council of Mages after meeting up with his friends at a tavern in a neighboring town. As you might expect, disaster struck along the way and it is up to you now to save your people from an impending invasion.
Pros
+ Fun and simple matches. AI seems competent enough, though it does seem to make mistakes sometimes. + I don't think there's a card limit for your decks, but if you have a huge deck, then it might be harder to predict which type of cards you'll get. Like the game likes to advise you, having more cards isn't always good. + Nice, intriguing storyline. Special kudos for the quality, voice-acted intro! + Excellent tutorial. Even if you're not as familiar with the genre, this game will ease you right in! + Although it's not particularly unique and prominently shows its "mobile port" status, I still like the art style here. + Lots of quest chains, each with its own mini-story. + Considering the amount of content and the replayability, the game's definitely worth buying even at full price if you love the genre and are looking for something less demanding to play while taking a break from other more competitive card games.
Cons/Feedback
- I'm not a fan of unnecessary grind and unfortunately, this game seems to have it. There are several classes you can play as but when you level up, you can only upgrade 1 class by 1 level. So, if you fancy changing classes halfway through the game for instance, you'll basically have to grind XPs to level up your other decks, which can take quite a while I reckon... though honestly, I'm not sure how you can do that since quest-related encounters will increase in level alongside you. - Bugs - sometimes, for some reason, the enemy isn't taking any damage despite not being resistant to said damage or have any sort of protective spell/armour. - Some people might not like that the game obviously looks like it's designed with mobile in mind. There are several features that would do well on mobile but they don't work as well (extra clicks) on PC. Personally, I don't mind as much. *Note that although the game is labeled as free-to-play on mobile, that's only the demo. I've also not played the previous Spellsword title before, so I'm completely new to the series.
Overall
Spellsword Cards: Demontide may not be as unique as say Slay the Spire when it first came out, but the game is still able to deliver a fun and casual card game experience and is perfectly suited for fans of the genre who are looking for a relaxing single-player game to play. The game has plenty of content to make its cost worthwhile and well, the game does have a pretty nice gameplay + campaign. So, despite some of its flaws, I think this game is worth looking into.
i bought this on sale thinking that it was an early access game. ouch. as a finished product it is a bit of a mess outside of the actual battles. i think the main issue is around consistency. i felt irritated by things that will close again on second click and others that will stay open. the menus were confusing and there was a lot of superfluous animation when reloading battles or when travelling from one location to another...we don't need to see the same thing over again. i was looking for a single player campaign game and i am keeping my vote to recommended because i did enjoy the battles, but i would not be happy if i had paid full price for this. i feel the whole game could be streamlined, just way too much extraneous nonsense begging to be chopped away.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1856355816
My initial impression of this game was mediocre, but the more I play it, the more I enjoy it. It's clearly inspired by Hearthstone, and while it has less mechanical complexity or content than Hearthstone, Demontide more than makes up for this by offering supreme flexibility and not being pay-to-win, making it the better of the two. Like Hearthstone, it offers multiple game modes, but my favorite by far is the campaign mode, so that's what I'l be describing. Instead of having one hero power, you can equip up to 3. Instead of choosing one class for your character, you can increase your level in any class each time you gain a character level, unlocking unique class cards, up to a maximum of 8 levels. That said, there are some downsides that need to be mentioned. While there are unlimited randomly generated enemies to fight, the hand-crafted story content is incomplete with no indication that it's still being worked on. Similarly, it looks like each class had 8 levels planned, but only 5 or 6 implemented. The existing content is worth more than the purchase price by a wide margin, but it's still disappointing to know that there was more planned that we can't experience. I'd be thrilled if someday more content gets released, even if it has to be purchased separately. It's unlikely, but I can hope. There are also a few bugs that never got fixed, but they tend to be minor inconveniences. But the main reason I was less than thrilled initially is that the story battles tend to present unique challenges that can completely shut down certain strategies. However, in a way this is a good thing because it provides a powerful incentive to discover new strategies, and there are neutral cards available to buy or craft ensuring that players always have the necessary tools to overcome these challenges.
dont dont dont buy it! we need sell for ver1.0. we need Ach. we need drop card. we need cloud save.
Game itself is OK. But without cloud save am uninstalling.
