With current price game is well worthy. I don't quite understand so many bad reviews. Some point to difficulty and balancing problems, but so far I had none of this. (just a few battles a little easier or harder, but not any terrible spike) Maybe game got updated recently? As it is, I had my fun for two hours, and intend to play more. If the game style appeals to you, I say give it a try, even though Steam ratings look scary. Edit: It does gets harder later on. On some fights you'll need both a well built deck for that specific battle and a bit of drawing luck to win. Still very winnable, but be aware that you'll need to have some experience/competence in strategy and card games. Otherwise game can be frustrating, as grinding is slow. If you need, some guides might help you through the hardest battles.
Pros: - Great music - Surprisingly decent story - single player deck building games are hard to find - Very good art. I don't get it, honestly... many games can't even give you more than half a dozen portraits or so for your main character, citing the cost of the art, while this lower priced indie is *filled* with great art. - Low in price - I love the traditional fantasy setting - No arbitrary restrictions on deck building! This one is so big. Cons: - The game's over-reliance on weapons doesn't feel great for the caster classes. I wish there were more caster staffs and such. - The cards in your hand are tiny and you have to click on them to make them big enough to see... but they'll cover your hero, so you can't see what's going on or target your hero very easily. Very annoying. - The game copied too much from Hearthstone - There's a huge, huge difficulty spike in the middle of the game. While I don't want the game to be too easy, I have played all single player modes of Hex, Etherlords (2), Fariea, Hearthstone, and more, and I have to say, the bump here is just too much. Like the hydra fight, just get rid of the curses. They don't make sense anyway. You already have several gimmicks to deal with that actually make thematic sense for a hydra to have, you don't need to add even more on top of that. Overall, relatively positive mainly because it's cheap.
Usually I love this kind of games but this one seems very poorly designed. I only tried the campaign and I kept running into fights that it would be impossible for me to win without a specific card/ card combo in my deck and there would be no clue as to where I would find said cards. The game has quite a bit of content but it just seems wasted since I could not push myself through to finish it/find all the cards. Having no clue as to what is good in a particular deck only made the experience more frustrating. Not a very intuitive game
Demonstone
Итак, Spellsword Cards: Demontide - карточная игра от студии On Up Plus Entertainment.
Ищете интересные игры, но боитесь выбрать то, что не понравится? very simplistic deck builder not very interesting
Pop-ups keeps pop-uping though the game already said it would be over. "Now you can fight on your own. WAIT. There is one more thing." Also, UI very confusing. Got tired of it.
It's not finished so maybe this review is not fair but it's not in early access. I finished only the 1st chapter because the 2nd is not done. Pros: - creative monsters, unqiue enemies - long campaign (example: longer than the Northmark's campaign) - autonavigation in quest menu - some art is nice - gauntlet / puzzles minigames Cons: - the campaign is not polished I couldn't finish the 1rst chapter when my hero was a warrior because I couldn't defeat two monsters (stirred up & in flight), and I don't like the slow grind (job board) - green effect is annoying, there is no disabled button in menu - AI is not perfect but it's not problem because sometimes the enemy is overpowered - UI issues - there is no scrollbar in open quests menu and deck menu - inconsistent images on the map - there is a low resolution pictures with high resolution pictures - there is no draw if you have zero life and the enemy has zero life Maybe the free move is not necessary (the "line move" is better like in Puzzle quest 2) 6 / 10
Spellsword Cards: Demontide, developed and published by One Up Plus Entertainment, is a fantasy deckbuilding RPG that confidently steps beyond the conventions of most card-based games. Instead of building its identity around competitive multiplayer or endless seasonal updates, it delivers a self-contained adventure focused on exploration, character growth, and strategic customization. From the opening moments, it becomes clear that the game is less interested in being a streamlined card battler and more interested in offering an expansive role-playing experience where cards simply happen to be the primary means of combat. Set in a world threatened by dark forces and ancient mysteries, the game follows a hero seeking answers about their origins while unraveling the fate of a fallen mentor. The story itself embraces classic fantasy themes, sending players across villages, dungeons, and dangerous territories populated by a surprisingly broad assortment of enemies. From goblins and vampires to demons, dragons, and towering monsters, the campaign maintains a sense of adventure throughout its many encounters. While the narrative rarely reaches the heights of genre-defining RPGs, it provides enough context and worldbuilding to keep players invested in the journey. What truly separates Demontide from similar titles is its depth. The game features hundreds of collectible cards that are unlocked entirely through progression rather than additional purchases, a design choice that feels increasingly uncommon. Players can experiment with seven distinct classes, including Warrior, Mage, Rogue, Priest, Monk, Necromancer, and Ninja, while mixing abilities to create hybrid playstyles. This freedom encourages creativity, allowing players to construct decks centered on direct damage, defensive tactics, summoning strategies, or powerful status effects. Every battle becomes an opportunity to refine a build, and the satisfaction of discovering effective combinations remains one of the game's biggest strengths. Outside of combat, Demontide introduces systems that reinforce its RPG identity. Crafting allows players to forge legendary cards through recipes and gathered materials, while shops and loot drops ensure a constant sense of progression. Additional modes such as the Champion's Arena and the Gauntlet provide substantial replay value beyond the main campaign, with the latter offering roguelike elements that challenge players to adapt their strategies under changing circumstances. Combined with dozens of boss encounters, these features contribute to a package that feels remarkably generous for a single-player indie title. Of course, ambition comes with compromises. The visuals and user interface are functional but dated, lacking the polish seen in more modern deckbuilders. Certain sections can become repetitive, particularly during extended play sessions where grinding for resources or card upgrades becomes necessary. The learning curve can also be steeper than expected, as the game occasionally assumes players will discover its mechanics through experimentation rather than detailed tutorials. Those expecting a highly refined experience may find some of its rough edges difficult to overlook. Even so, Spellsword Cards: Demontide succeeds because of its commitment to player freedom. It understands the appeal of creating a personalized character and watching that build evolve over time. Its combination of card collecting, exploration, crafting, and class customization gives it an identity distinct from many of its contemporaries. Rather than chasing trends, it delivers a traditional fantasy adventure with enough systems to keep strategy enthusiasts occupied for dozens of hours. Spellsword Cards: Demontide is an imperfect but admirable effort that demonstrates just how much can be accomplished with a clear vision and a passion for the genre. Players willing to embrace its old-school presentation and occasional grind will discover a rewarding experience packed with content and replayability. It may not be the most polished deckbuilder on Steam, but it is undoubtedly one of the more distinctive ones. Rating: 6/10
Very fub gane A bit hard for my liking but fun nevertheless.
