Game is not "polished" as developers have stated, even though it states Early Access. We all know this is a very similar variant of a game of another title. This game is very buggy and waaay too easy ATM. There has been a plethora of comments in the discussion boards addressing bugs and concerns, in which the devs have not even responded nor acknowledged. I could see if the game was free to play, I would understand any small delays in support - but we were charged in order to even "try" the game. I have submitted for a refund. I cannot recommend this game at the moment in its current state.
Good God it's awful!
Unfortunately did not even get a chance to play, game would go to start up screen and when pressed play would just crash. It's a shame because the game looks really nice graphically and was excited to play another game similar to slay the spire.
It's like a hilariously broken STS. I was looking for something in the mold of STS, but this... really isn't it. Basically, if you're any good at games like these, you will break open the game on your first run due to its amazing lack of balance. My first character, at the time I stopped playing forever, was breezing through the game with relics that: Stunned every enemy, even bosses, for 6 turns at the beginning of every battle. Started enemies taking 110% damage. Started enemies with 7 poison. Started enemies with 7 incineration (fire poison). Gave me absurd defense every turn without playing defense cards. It's awful. It's really awful. Don't buy it. If you're looking for something a bit like slay the spire that isn't totally stupid, maybe try Neoverse. That's still under development as well, but it's fun to play and promising.
During my ~30 minutes of playing, I broke the game. Freeze spells are incredibly overpowered, to the point where I only received damage maybe 2 or 3 times during the whole run. Finishing a level started resetting the stage, causing the entire map to be regenerated from the beginning. Treasures(Relics) got hard capped at a surprisingly small amount, 19 or so, meaning I was no longer able to pick up more after fights. However, the merchant would still take away my gold if I tried to buy one. Despite all these gamebreaking bugs I ran into on release, there hasn't been a shred of communication from the creators. Not one post in the forum, not one announcement in the news feed. When you release a game to the public that is very clearly not even functional, it's very important to keep communicating in the first few days and make clear it's a work in progress and that progress is being made. The creators have not done this, so I'll be refunding this game after waiting days for any sign that they cared about the state of their product. TLDR: Broken game, zero communication or even any sign work is in progress. Creating a very shady combination when you also consider how much of a rip-off this is of other popular card-based games. Stay away.
Very unbalanced, needs a lot of work!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
v v v v
Scroll past the review if you just wanna quickly look up on Pros/Cons and ranking!
v v v v
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Review:
I have been looking forward to more deck builder rogue-likes to appear on the steam store, this one is most definitely not what i wanted though... First of all, i haven't played it very long, usually i set a limit for me to play atleast 2 hours at minimum before judging a game but the reason i stopped playing it, is because the developer of this game does not know how to balance a game whatsoever. First run through i play, i get multiple relics which lets me stun/freeze and give tons of damage over time at the start of the game, this means the enemy isn't able to do anything at all against me because they simply aren't allowed to before they die, removing all challenge there is in the game and no this isn't just that i got lucky with my cards and relics. You get a lot of relics throughout just running up one floor, most of the stuff you get seems to have the effect "at the start of the game", stuns/freezes, regeneration, damage over time, shields, more mana and so on, so you aren't playing a deckbuilding rogue-like, you are playing a relic hunter rogue-like that plays the game for you, if you can even call it a rogue-like anymore, because somehow they managed to remove the whole rogue-like feeling to these games aswell, even though it seems to be trying so hard to be the next "Slay the Spire", it actually fails at the job by a lot. Now, i've gone over how bad the relics are balanced in this game, but don't even get me started on the cards, compared to how strong they are, the mana cost is waaaay to small, just letting me throw these overpowered cards at the enemy giving me a free win every time, lets make an example, for 1 mana you get a card that deals 15 dmg and also lets you draw 2 cards, actually its bugged so you only draw 1 card even if it says you should draw 2... or we could take this example instead, 1 mana 9 damage to all monsters, i could go on forever making examples, but i'm not gonna do that, just think about what those cards can do together with them not being able to do anything for 2-6 rounds as you enter a fight everytime you do so because of the relics. Also, let me just put this out there, in a very short time i got over 1k gold from just killing monsters as i go up the floor, all these relics cost around 100 - 200 gold, so it is very easy to get a hold of these relics through the shop that you can easily get to and just get these relics that play the game for you. It is unbalanced, it has no risk factor and no challenge to it, it could have been great, but it really isn't. Instead of making their own touch on the deckbuilding rogue-like genre, they decided to make it as similar to "Slay the Spire" as they could and still get away with it, if they were gonna take inspiration from it, the first thing they should have looked at, is why "Slay the Spire works like it does in the first place, I do not recommend this game in its current state at all, it is Early Access, but somehow i get the feeling its not gonna get any better over time and ill probly refund my copy of it. What i can do, is give some recommendations on some other games in the same deckbuilding rogue-like genre, so i think you should go check out "Slay the Spire" and "Fate Hunters". ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Pros.
- Character & class customization, always love those
Cons.
- This game has multiple bugs and very misleading texts on cards, relics, buffs/debuffs - You can get the same relics from chests that you have already received, meaning you get no new relic for clearing bosses etc. - No balance in cards and relics compared to enemies, enemies has no chance against you at any point, the game basicly plays itself for you with you doing a few clicks here and there - Only thing unique about the monster you face throughout the dungeon is looks and health points, they have no special attributes to make them unique, they have nothing that makes them more challenging over other monsters, they are just there for you to throw cards in their faces --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ranking:
0/10

05/100
Crashes when I hit play in the game. The developer hasnt responded to a thread with a dozen people with the same issue. Refunding before my 2 weeks are up.
Bad copy of Slay the Spire with crashes... :-(
Im not against people taking a concept and making it into a genre, I hope we get more card based deck builder / roguelite hybrids. This, however, is a lazy cash grab, with little to no balance that is buggy as all hell and barely even works. The devs are ghosts, probably not wanting to get talking about this obvious scam.
