Quick Score: 3/5 Notes: Not very good, but not that bad. Fun for a single casual playthrough and that's all I would recommend it for. But god have mercy on your soul if you try to get the deathless story level achievement. The levels are far too long, and the controls are not nearly precise enough Would only recommend on a deep discount.
game asks to be way too precise to be enjoyable.
Spectrolite

Parkour This….Parkour That….
Man, I wish I could parkour in real life. It looks really cool but really hard & tiring at the same time. Well, that’s why we have games. Games allow us to experience the impossible. Spectrolite is another First-Person parkour game that made me rage a lot. I’ve never felt so much anger when I played any game. Stay tuned to know why! :<
About This Game

Storyline
I am not really sure if this game has a storyline. There are some parts where the entire screen glitches & you see a white human-like creature run through the screens around you. I think that’s the “Ghost” you race against later in the game. So yeah, I don’t think the game has a fixed storyline, just a race against an anonymous ghost.
Gameplay Mechanics
This is a parkour game, which means it’s very “Movement-intensive”. Everything related to the player’s movement has to be smooth or else the game would just be trash. Luckily enough, this game has very smooth mechanics. Lemme just break it down for y’all. The only movement abilities you have are Running, Jumping & Wall-running. Well, these are just the basic ones. I wish they added the ability to walk & when you press shift, you could run. Just running feels a bit weird. I guess that’s just a “Me” problem. The jumping feels a bit too floaty. Maybe it was intentional due to the overall “Space-like” setting the game has. My least favorite part is the wall-running. Oh my god, It’s so annoying. Firstly, the wall running speed is so slow, you can go faster only if you make wall-running streaks. It’s understandable but they could’ve at least increased the speed by a bit. There were so many parts with Wall-running that were so hard. These parts were the ones that made me lose my cool. I triggered so hard. The game is actually split into different levels which start when you enter a portal. Within each level, there is a ♥♥♥♥ tonne of checkpoints. So, due to me getting triggered, I Alt-F4ed a lot. The first time I closed the game using Alt & F4, I was surprised to see that I was forced to restart the whole level when I reopened the game after a while. This is very disappointing since I legit finished some hard parts of the level after multiple tries & by using my luck. I really hope the developers will consider starting the game from our last checkpoint whenever we boot up the game. The game is all about speed. To carry on this concept, the game has some kind of “Speed Portals” thing. You basically have to jump into the portal & press and hold the space bar key. When you do that, time stops for a while giving you the opportunity to choose the direction you want to get launched to. Then releasing the space bar will throw you in the direction you’re facing. It’s basically a catapult. It helps you reach places that you can’t reach by just jumping. There are other portals that look similar to these but when you enter them, they immediately give you a speed boost, throwing you in the direction the portals are facing. What’s cool about these is that you can use these portals to Power Jump also. This basically means that you use the momentum you gain from the portal & press the jump key just before you land which allows you to jump further. Pretty cool mechanic if you ask me, So, after the “Level-based” gameplay, you are thrown into time trials where you are racing against a ghost & you have to reach the “Finish line” before it does. If you find this a bit too challenging, there’s an option to disable the time trials challenge although I don’t recommend doing that since it kills the entire purpose of the game. You can also revisit the challenges to beat your friends’ or your own timings!
Visuals & Audio
The game has a very Geometric art style. All you see are cubes & cuboids. When you combine this art style with the dark background with Neon objects, it gets really appealing. I, personally, loved the simplistic visuals the game has. The soundtracks they used aren't really unique. I eventually got bored of listening to it so I muted the in-game music & played songs through Spotify in the background.
Pros

Smooth movement mechanics.
Simple but beautiful visuals.
The game is actually challenging.
Lots of variety.
The game has a bit of replayability.

Cons

The game is rage-inducing.
Forced to replay the whole level if you exit the game without completing the current level.

Conclusion
My love for parkour games is immeasurable. Although I raged a lot while playing this game, it was still loads of fun. There were so many parts that gave me satisfaction upon completion, that’s all that matters to me! I do recommend giving this game a shot! Reviewer: Midplayz Every Parkour Game Ever! The game not only has a stunning atmosphere whilst still providing clear visibility of objective, it also has a unique style of gameplay i have not experienced before. The enjoyability is comparable to the portal games. The game is simple to understand but hard to master, it leads the player through various beautiful longer maps, where you can be a tourist in a futuristic setting while crushing the challenges from checkpoint to checkpoint. Inbetween longer maps. the games tests you with time trial runs, which can pull you hair a bit but feels rewarding when beaten. I have yet to finish the game, but would recommend it with full confidence, its a worthwhile and unique experience!
What is my problem with Spectrolite? My skills - or lack thereof. You know the saying "there is always room for improvement"? This is definitely true for this game as well. Spectrolite however takes it to a whole new level - even your worst has to be near perfect. This is true for both the time trials and the platforming in general - and it's especially true for later levels where momentum really matters. This doesn't make it any less enjoyable. In fact, every time you overcome a part which you thought you will never be able to - that just feels good. Unfortunately, even after the new low-end patch there are parts which just can't be completed. At least by me - someone more skilled would probably be able to complete them despite the FPS drops. Me? I can't. So for now the game will remain half completed. Will I return to it? Definitely - the art style, the music and the gameplay are all well worth it! Just give it a try and see for yourself!
Loved this game from start to finish. The levels are beautifully built, the parkour is satisfying and challenging at the same time, and the soundtrack is amazing. For anyone that is a big fan of Mirrors Edge or Platformer/Parkour games this is a cheap and great game. My only problem is that it wasnt longer, and the fact that you only learn one new skill. Hopefully theres an update or a new game like this as I would love that.
after you finish tutorial that takes around 5-10 minutes, you get one of the most atmospheric synthwave parkour games ever with pretty good movement... for like 30 minutes, until it changes into very annoying precise platofrmer which is just time based replay simulator
Edit; changed my mind. Skill level needed to derive joy from playing this is way too high, plus this isn't parkour - this is super mario. Or better yet, super meat boy. Accurate and precise jumps in 3D, in chains of 10-12 and in sets of 5-6 between checkpoints? No thanks. Ordinarily I wouldn't mind practicing if I'd feel there's some progress, and I pushed myself through the first tutorial levels and then first set of "real" levels - but then, being given a level that takes roughly 1:23 minutes to complete, where you compete against a ghost - and almost every fail puts you back at the beginning? No thanks. Gonna go back to other, actually fun retro neon games. Worth maybe for 4-5$ to see if you like this kind of masochism. Original (Thumbs up) review: One more in series of tron-inspired/80ies/retro synthwave runners. This one looks much better than the most (GTTOD, Cyberhook), but it is also much, much slower and simpler. You don't always latch well to walls, and besides jumping, wallrunning and special jump rings and bubbles - there's nothing much more in your movement list. It is also quite more punishing - the checkpoints are distant, and there are many precisely timed jumps between them. it gets irritating to perfectly time 8-12 jumps on narrow platforms while having to preserve momentum, and then not latch on the wall, or jump off a tad bit too late so you miss the tiny bubble. Anyway... worth the cash 50% off. Would not recommend at full price. "Cyberhook" is, in my opinion, much more fun than this.
Really fun game. The movement feels great, the visuals are clean, and it’s just super satisfying to play. It’s quick-paced without being stressful — more of a smooth, zone-out kind of experience than a full-on speedrunner. The only real issue is the four timed challenge levels in the middle. They’re long, really strict, and demand near-perfect precision for over a minute straight. One small mistake and you’re restarting. It feels out of place compared to the rest of the game’s more relaxed flow and comes off like they just added the strict times to pad out playtime. That said, there’s an easy mode that removes the timers, and honestly, that makes the game much more enjoyable. Took me just under 3 hours to beat — so maybe better to grab on sale — but if you’re after a more laid-back, fast-paced platformer that still manages to feel satisfying, it’s definitely worth checking out.
