The missing link between the PS1 and Dreamcast®, it really feels like some an obscure 2006 Indie game you would find on some random site. I really like that aspect of it. Pretty bare bones but it's not intolerable, combat feels okay despite how simple and loose it feels. Its not the best but it works. Bosses are annoying since they spam their attacks too often and they seem balanced around your partner distracting them for a bit. Update 2: They've made dodging invincibility way better and bosses now have a "Stun" Gauge that will also give you a one-of-a-kind weapon if you fill it at least once. They've also added special attacks that drain a little health but deal big damage. This game is really crispy and the crust is pretty dry but it goes down smooth. Update: They've been updating it periodically, it looks a little better now and they've made changes to the combat including adding voice clips. Really enhances that "Found a website you can't read" Feeling
A game feeling completely out of its time, like a dreamy budget dreamcast/ps1/ps2 title borne wholecloth into the world, with the same desire to experiment and not just go with established gameplay conventions as those games did. If someone told me this did come out in dreamcast as a japanese and like 3 european countries exclusive, I would believe them. The game is also extremely pretty, and the combat has an odd amount of meat to it in its strange janky and very very relaxing self. (it's not super long, but it feels quite setup for replays, with a lot of hidden content, extremely dreamcast)

Spartoi Meadow is a very off-kilter action RPG that offers more atmosphere than anything else, and works wonders because of it. The combat is satisfying and relatively loose while also being strategic, since you can only get away with attacking without being interrupted if you used a costly skill or if you're well-positioned. Aside from the cool mechanics, it has a wonky translation, pretty skies, and a charming soundtrack. Great. full review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBKLnhmkzxk
strange, short rpg with an awkward camera, stiff movement, a bizarre english translation and really esoteric systems with a surprising angle towards replayability with a new game + and a mysterious bit of post-game content requiring secret weapons that can only be obtained by exploiting a boss stagger mechanic. there's a bit more qol than you'd expect and the leveling and field encounter mechanics are such that you'll never actually encounter a massive roadblock, so while it can be a bit of a dizzying time it's not actually hard to get through and the story is almost comically brief at times without actually feeling majorly cut down in any way. the english text is a fair bit goofier than the japanese, dialog is stiffer and characters pick very RANDOM times to FULLY CAPITALIZE WORDS in a FUNNY WAY. it's a cool game
Spartoi Meadow is one of the videogames of all time
really enjoyed this, great vibes and really solid combat despite some obvious jank. well worth the six bucks! btw, you can change the graphics to the original look in the beta branches, I personally prefer the much heavier bloom
I think this might be the first game I've played in this genre. I have to be honest: I have no clue what's going on. I run around, kill stuff, equip my characters. I die, retry and am happy once I got it. It makes me feel like back in the days, not understanding the language of a game or how it is played, but still having a good time. Main reason for me to buy the game was the aesthetics. I LOVE it - it looks amazing and I wish there were more games like this out there.
This game rules, I love It. more games like this existing would be good I think.
