SPAERA is a head-to-head puzzle fighting game, using an unique match-3 cascading mechanic as its core system. The world of SPAERA is heavily inspired by characters, gameplay and themes from games that we loved to play as we were growing up.

We played the game for a while and it's a simple tetris like game with super powers. It's one of those simple games that you can just pull out and play with whoever as the barrier to entry is low enough.
一个色块消除和俄罗斯方块结合的游戏,比较考验反应能力。 有多种角色和多种技能,但本质上差别不是很大。 支持在线对战和离线模式。 作为休闲小游戏,偶尔玩一下还很不错。
The gameplay loop is very satisfying, especially the aspect of using spells at opportune moments to absolutely destroy the opponent. There's just a lot of rough edges like style inconsistencies in the menus and the sounds in the game being absolutely terrible (I assume they're still placeholder sounds). Has potential, but I have no idea if it'll ever be finished.
https://youtu.be/hC0U8jlRkxM Pit based match cleared puzzle games rely on clear communication to player on chain reactions, the way gravity is implemented does not provide that needed information.
I met the devs back at EVO 2017 as my friend/roommate at the time knew the devs, almost on a personal level. They were nice people. They taught me how to play the game and even gave me some tips and tricks on how to play better. I even managed to participate in the small tournament they were running where I proceeded to get absolutely stomped by my roommate. I was impressed by what I played and really enjoyed the game and, with the $10 price tag, I even decided to buy the game to help support the devs and I added them on as many social platforms I could to keep in touch and stay updated on the game. Unfortunately, the last things the devs have posted was a photo from Day 2 of EVO 2018 on Facebook, there was a post in the Steam forums, asking about a potential update back in 2023 with, seemingly, no answer and their Discord server seems to have a bit of a small following with the last message I saw being from November (2024) It's a damn shame because Spaera is, actually, a lot of fun. My roommate had access to the early builds of the game and we would play them for hours, comparing how each build differed from the last, what things we liked from each build and which things we didn't. We were, essentially, Blazing Orb's unofficial QA testers. We even tried spreading the word and got a few of our friends to cough up $10 each to help support BO and they seemed to like it as well. But, as it currently sits right now, I can't, in good faith, recommend Spaera at this current moment in time. The servers are dead and empty, NOBODY plays the game, the single player AI is either absolutely brain dead or a puzzle god, some of the mechanics are still broken, buggy and unfinished to the point where some characters feel more unbalanced than others and the final nail in the coffin is the fact that the devs just abandoned the game, took the money and ran Now I know that I'm just yelling into the void right now but if any of the devs from Blazing Orb just happens to see this review, finish the game. Y'all had something good here and I really wish y'all would see it through. I STILL have the Spaera themed bottle opener keychain y'all gave me from EVO 2017. I wanna see Spaera succeed and get the recognition it deserves
Excellent casual yet competitive puzzle game. My friend & I mainly play versus mode, which is split screen vertically, from the couch using Steam controllers and it's a blast. Would buy from this developer again.
Similar to a Tetris battle type game but it doesn't play very well and is not fun.
I was searching for a game reminiscent of "Tetris Battle Gaiden" and Spaera easily satiated my hunger for classic puzzle battles. While the blocks are a little different from the ones used in Tetris, the overall game feeling is the same for me. In addition you get a few unique characters (just imagine what could be possible, when adding more characters from other Steam games), lovely animation of their offense/defense moves as well as a cool soundtrack. It is early access, so the battles against the NPCs are rather basic (nevertheless for me a fun way to pass time every now and then). But playing against others is the real challenge. Unfortunately the community is not big enough that you can simply start an online-battle and be sure to find an opponent. Most of the time, I'm in the game for myself. But the developers have a discord channel, where you can find other players. I think there is a lot of potential for this game, when thinking about difficulties, different game modes, maybe including a chat, representing the personalities of the characters, hosting events to bring the community together and stuff like that. The creators probably have even more things in mind, so for now I'm happy with how the game is and haven't really experienced any troubles.
