Reviews
Very reminiscent of the feel and tone of the classic Space Quest games. I highly recommend it to Space Quest fans.
I waited a long time to play this game, I just started playing and I'm already in love. The comedy style, the vibe, the puzzles, it's all there. I very much feel like I am in the same universe as Space Quest. 10/10
There are some rough bits, but overall the humor and feel of the sci-fi adventure game genre is there.

It'll give you that old school laid back space quest vibe. The only con is that it feels too short for how long I waited. The length of the game makes it seem only worth 5 buckazoids when I paid 15
Space Venture finally left Early Access on December 24, 2025, after roughly 13 years of development - and somehow, against all odds, it was absolutely worth the wait. I only discovered this game recently, which is almost embarrassing considering I’m a lifelong fan of Space Quest. As a kid, I genuinely thought Space Quest was a horror game. The many creative (and often brutal) ways you could die were terrifying when you didn’t quite understand what was going on yet. Over time, though, I grew to love the series deeply. Not because the puzzles were always perfect (they weren’t), but because the sci-fi parody, tone, and sheer personality were unlike anything else. That’s exactly what Space Venture delivers. Made by the original Guys from Andromeda, this is a true spiritual successor in the best sense. Technically, especially given its very long development, it’s nothing groundbreaking - but that honestly doesn’t matter. What does matter is that the humor is charming, the writing is full of heart, the voice acting is consistently lovable, and the puzzles are mostly logical and fair. I should add a small asterisk here: I’ve played so many adventure games in my life that even the wildest moon logic tends to make sense to me. This skill, sadly, does not translate well to real life. I haven’t played the 1.0 release yet, but even the pre-release version ran surprisingly well for me, with very few technical issues. More importantly, the game just radiates affection, for the genre, for Space Quest, and for the people who still love these kinds of adventures. In hindsight, a pixel-art or even AGI-style presentation might have suited the project better, but after all this time, that feels like a minor nitpick. The game exists, it’s finished, and it’s full of passion. I happily paid for it, I’d love to own it as a big box on my shelf, and I genuinely want this to succeed so more games like it can exist. The ending didn’t fully land for me, but honestly? That’s nitpicking at a very high level. Ron Gilbert has disappointed me with endings for decades, and I still love his games; so I can live with that. If you ever loved Space Quest, even a little bit, this is an easy recommendation. Heartfelt, funny, and made with obvious love.
Rooter That’s my boy
the story is good, it's funny, great characters... but i still can't recommend it. the puzzles are clever, but the mechanics of the game are not intuitive. this makes it very difficult to finish some of them without a specific walkthrough on what to do, or where to click... plus, this game has been out for years, and there is no cloud saving ability. and there are several game-breaking bugs that make it too frustrating to play. i couldn't even finish the game because of this. very disappointed. UPDATE: bugs fixed by developer!
It was a long, long wait. But in the end, I'm alright with it. Yes, there are still bugs and the climax feels rushed, but as someone who's first video game was Space Quest (which was the reason I could read at an adult level in the first grade), this is the game I wanted when I pledged $15 in 2013. Despite the lengthy wait and the flaws, I smiled a lot while playing and think it's a good adventure game overall and a worthy successor to Space Quest.
This game absolutely succeeds as a "spiritual successor" to the Space Quest games of yore, and is a lot of fun to play! My favorite aspect might be your lovable sidekick Rooter. Not only is Rooter adorable, he's darn useful too! The puzzles are, for the most part, logical and fairly straightforward. Highly recommended to any Roger Wilco fans, adventure game fans, or any sci-fi comedy fans! <3
