I was having fun with this game until I got to the third boss. It's just way too hard even on normal mode. The save point is way too far away from the fight. Having be chased by lava while getting shot at while you climb to the top just to get unloaded on the moment you get there is just too much. I don't play games like this to have to be perfect, I need some help, like some health packs that aren't insanely expensive, or just some check points right before a boss. Either way, the fun was sucked out of this game for me.
Cute classic game. Double jumps, guns, aliens and conspiracies. Has a big exploration component that will turn you into an intrepid space adventurer.

I wanted to like Spaceport Hope, but it's got a couple of issues that were unfortunate dealbreakers for me. The game is not great-looking, but the sprites and environment are competent enough. I've always had a bit of a soft spot for games with tiny sprites and this game is full of them. The character portraits are... well... pretty bad. There is no map, which means you'll have to keep track of names of places and how to get to them. I like the idea of collecting different weapons, though, and I give points to any game that lets me wield a flame thrower. The boss encounters I've had were pretty well done too, with decent attack patterns and some engaging set pieces, such as racing up a shaft while lava rises. Ultimately, though, I couldn't get very far because of control issues. I'm playing with an XBox 360 controller, but character movement is mapped to the analog stick instead of the control pad. Because of this, my character often won't respond when I change direction in mid-air. There is a lot of platforming that requires some degree of precision, and several enemies whose attacks require dexterity to avoid, but it always felt like a crap-shoot whether the controls would respond properly. Oddly, the options seem to allow button re-binding but it will not allow me to re-bind motion to the control pad. But I didn't want to quit, because I was enjoying some of the things the game had going for it, so I decided to use JoyToKey to set keyboard inputs onto my controller, allowing me to use the control pad for motion. At first this seemed to work, until I realised that my controller was sending both controller and keyboard inputs simultaneously. I couldn't double-jump any more (as every button press was sending two "jump" commands) and every press of the R1 button would skip ahead by 2 weapon slots. I figured I could assign the controller "jump" to L2 (as I didn't need that button) but the game would only let me re-assign it to A, B, X or Y. So I put it on Y (I jump with A), which meant I had to change my inventory key to another button. This was the point where I decided the hassle wasn't worth it. I did my due diligence but if I can't control the game properly then I can't enjoy it properly.

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.

Decent open world Metroidvania, with lots of upgrades, lots of backtracking, and lots of optional content. The boss fights are fairly intuitive and not too difficult.
