Space Mercs is an extreme arcade space combat game where the amount of projectiles and lasers on-screen is only toppled by the amount of stars in the universe! Will you be able to complete all the mercenary missions and become the best pilot in the Galaxy?

It's been a long time since I enjoyed a space shooter, but this one kept me playing even after failing the same mission three times. For me, that's a new record!
Very limited... and calibrating the controls is a headache! I didn't even get into trying the game itself as my ship drifted any which way no matter how hard I tried to calibrate my HOTAS. AS someone else commented... it needs A LOT of polishing.
As you can probably see, I haven't spent much time playing. My initial impressions were immediately negative. First, my monitor is 1440p. I can't select this as my resolution and have to play in 1280x760 or 1280x800. This makes the game look blurry, and the already simple graphics just look terrible. It also highlights a problem with the display options: In order to change the resolution, I have to click on the current resolution, then click the arrows to change it. As awkward as this is, it's still inconsistent as to whether or not it responds at all. Then, the controls. The default control scheme just doesn't make any sense, and the lack of mouse aiming is frustrating. Collisions are weird, too. Sometimes you'll just pass through an enemy ship seemingly unharmed, other times you'll take damage, but there is little-to-no indication on screen that you've hit anything at all in either case. I'm sure this game could be fun if the developer continues to work on it, but if feels like a student project right now and not a game. I realize I haven't played for long, but hopefully the fact that I found it so tedious within the first 10 minutes will tell you something.
Its a really good space shooter, very intuitive controls and very easy to pick up and play. It runs almost insanely smooth on my mid range pc (1050ti, Linux Debian, 2700x) and I am getting fps in the 450-500 range typically with lows in the 350 area. I honestly think this could probably run on a potato without any problems! The graphics are really nice and I like the art style too. A lot of fun well worth a look.
First Impressions -- the core mechanics are really fun. They feel like a combination of Star Wars Shadows of the Empire from N64, G-GNOME by 7th Level 1998, Descent and a awesome eerie grunge 1990s StarCraft ambient noise common with space-style games. Somehow there also feels like a touch of Star Trek, System Shock 2, and StarFox 64. Controls are complex enough and simple enough and not overly "hold your hand", a few minuets in there are some cool lightning style VFX and although cheesy fire in space before you explode it's nice to play something that feels like a hand crafted passion project. The mechanics and vision are executed well so far from my first impressions.
The game looks really good and it's very easy to get into it! However - It doesn't have mouse support for now :(
game looks like it SHOULD be lot of fun to play but i HATE inverted to play ...Why would anyone want anything going up when u press down or down when u press up? And since this can't be changed, for me it ruins the whole experience, and since makers were too lazy to make switching this an actual option, i give it 0/20 Whole experience ruined by unplayability! Also this game looks like it could be really smooth on controller, unfortunately i play mouse and keyboard....this ship should be flyable with mouse. would be awesome dont understand why u give opotion to click mouse to shoot yet have to use keys to fly ? MOUSE would be smoother/more fun ! MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A GREAT GAME....guess its good in a way; but far from the awesome game i should/could be
Cool little game. I hope the devs will add controller support (and keyboard mapping options). I, for one, do not use all the maneuvering options because my hands are bananas. The game play itself if fast and simple and just the way it's supposed to be. The aiming mechanic is very good since most of the time it's very hard and frustrating to hit something in space fighting games.
Ah, the good old feeling of a nice space shooter :D Short, compact missions and really nice graphics (considering it can run on a potato ^^) While it still needs some polishing on the controlls, It's a no-brainer for people that like that kind of games already. And the Dev is really engaged!
Strictly bargain basement quality. The third person crosshair is misaligned, enemy ships barely move, the controls are far too sensitive, and a host of other issues, such as enemy ships spawning right next to things you have to defend, prevent the game from being enjoyable. My recommendation: Avoid at all costs. Just go play Freespace 2 or Everspace.
