Super duper!
I Love this game. Hot Capital ship on capital ship action! What's not to like! I've had this game on three different computers. 460~ hours! How many games do you delete after six months? It started easy. Standard game was OK. Just one more turn! Oops! it's four in the morning! Epic mode, that was a different story. I died MANY times. Until I learned a thing. Nowhere have I seen any instructions about zoom. Yes. Number pad plus zooms in a bit, and minus zooms out a bit. This longer sight range changes the game. Yes, it can be VERY difficult and discouraging. Learn when to run away! Destroy convoys to reduce enemy tier (difficulty) level. Death of the Mother ship is SO worth it!
The combat is really fun. Slug battles with other space ships. Not as arcadey as other games like it. It's just.... difficult and wears on you relatively quickly after a couple hours. The only game mode is the campaign with a strategy map. You have to scavenge scrap and components to upgrade all the stuff on your ship. However, you have to use A LOT of scrap to repair in battle. You could try hit and runs to avoid spending scraps on repairs and get a full HP regen if you retreat at no cost. But, that tactic gets VERY tedious very quickly. And you feel like you can never catch up on top of it all too. Because the AI is constantly getting bonuses after so many turns/moves on your part. So you're constantly feel like you're stuck in mud with weapons too weak to penetrate enemy armor. Game is fun but has serious balance issues that really keep you from committing more time to it. Unfortunate. Worth $5 is you wanna screw around in a cool battlecruiser -- just don't expect more than a few hours of fun before you get over the tediousness.
This game is an excellent arcade game where you run in, destroy enemy ships, never repair so you can hoard that sweet sweet scrap, then rinse and repeat until you are either pinned by enemy fleets because you chose hard difficulty and never managed to eliminate said fleets, or you now have the requisite firepower to fight a god and win. 10/10 Would Fire a death laser at an innocent spaceport then use my swarm of cruise missiles to take out a single destroyer again. On a more serious note, I fully recommend this game. It's short, but fairly replayable if you're looking for some fun. Even after having finished it, I still come back to it occasionally. I hope these guys make more games sometime.
This is a fun game. Its really enjoyable for me to upgrade the ship, so I really like that. However, I do not like the system of how the AI builds up its forces. That isnt really very fun. I also find the shield annoying. Its bad enough its so temporary, but then having to manage it is also bad, esp that its so close to the repair function (which uses your resources) - that needs to go someplace else as 1 and 3 are heavily used and then 2 will suck up your resources. Otherwise, very fun!
For under ten bucks, this is a great game. It's simple, but it's not easy. Graphics are good, gameplay is fun, the ship feels like it should (big, ponderous, plan everything ahead), and the explosions are awesome. But it's got some holes. 1. It doesn't remember anything. Did you turn the sound down? Cool. Do it again next time you open the game. 2. You can't personalize the key mapping. You've got what's in there and that's it. 3. Not much in the way of guidance or help. A lot of time is spent figuring out the combinations that work. 4. The enemy gets VERY overpowered if you have to retreat very much. Seriously a fun game if you're not looking for super complex, high-paced twitch gaming. I love it, I'm glad I bought it, and it's priced right for what it is. It's basically a 21st century arcade game and for that, it's excellent.
Fun little game with lots of things to upgrade. Well worth the money in my book.
This is a fun game. The learning curve can be steep the first couple missions, however failure can be remedied by loading a previous save. Your upgrade choices are varied, suiting a variety of playstyles. Weapon drops are random, but the starting weapons will permit you to beat the game, so it's not a big issue
I have tried plenty of top-down perspective space games recently and Space Battlecruiser is the very best among them. It's neither oversimplified nor overcomplicated, you can both play it casually or immerse into it, graphics wise it's very decent but not too fancy so it does not require a powerful rig to run smoothly. There are recurring scenarios, limited ship and weapon types etc. but there are still enough combination of each of those for the game not to feel repetitive and dull. Combat mechanics is very well balanced between dexterity and tactical thinking... hard to put it all in words but the end result is a fantastically entertaining, satisfying, addictive, professionally made little game with basically no major flaws or any sources of constant frustration, the kind you can rarely find these days.
