About
Soul Scathe is a VR Dungeon Crawler RPG with procedurally generated dungeons focused on reactive melee and magic combat. Embark on a journey as the Valiant Returner, a principal battlemage that died during battle in the past. Losing all sense of your past self, you are revived and guided by the Asapal Deity whom witnessed your last moments. They seek to restore your lost memories of the past by guiding you to collect the scattered fragments of your soul.
Procedurally generated dungeons - Venture through the depths of dangerous dungeons, combating against deadly foes and traps along the way. Discover secrets, loot, and climb and explore a path through in order to survive long enough to find the Hallway Of Elusion and get back to the safehaven of Mistchamber.
Spell Fusion System - Utilize 14 different base spells, many of which can be fused together by physically gesturing and combining the spells to create a brand new spell. In total there are 9 spell fusions, giving you 23 unique spells to cast.
Reactive Melee Combat - Deliver hard blows to foes with responsive auditory, haptic, and visual feedback that can extend into decapitations and satisfying hits.
Use The Environment Against Foes - Use everything at your disposal by turning deadly traps into equally deadly weapons. Bring down heavy chandeliers, lead enemies into hidden switches, and use telekinesis to control the mechanisms, delivering nearby devastation.
Level Up and Personalize Your Style - As expected from RPGs, you can level up and assign stat points to give you the choice of how you want to evolve.
bHaptics Support - Immerse yourself further with official support for bHaptics peripherals.

It's hard to recommend this game, but I did have fun with it, so I'm marking this review as positive. This game does a lot of good things, the atmosphere is on point, I love the hub world you can chill and upgrade your character in, and the game has a few little things like potions you can break after drinking which is quite satisfying. I think however the biggest drawback of the game is the gameplay, the combat is not physics based so your weapons have no weight, there's no damage bonus for swinging harder, enemies don't have pressure points you can attack (So for example you can't attack their legs or arms to cripple them). Furthermore, your movement in this game is very slow, you don't have a dash, this is fine for the earlier enemies since you can just parry their attacks, but later on in the game you will encounter harder enemies with attacks you cannot parry, and it seems there's no way to dodge other than to just get really close and go around them lol. The bosses are kinda underwhelming too, they're just giant meat sticks you swing your sword at, their attacks also seem very hard to dodge, you can't really parry them or do anything cool in the fights. Funny enough, all of the bosses can be cheesed by just going really close to them to the point where you're practically inside them or directly under their legs. There's also a few bugs that can ruin the experience, I've had a few bugs that forced me to restart the game, such as the second boss's minions not spawning properly, or the game not letting me proceed through the dungeon despite killing all of the enemies. Despite all this, it is fun getting stronger and levelling up your character to the point of creaming the enemies and eventually overpowering the bosses, the spells are also quirky and fun, however I only used like two of them hehe. And hey, releasing a proper singleplayer VR game (Not a wave shooter, not a sandbox and not endless) is always a plus in my book. Overall, soul scathe is an alright game that you can have some fun with, def get it on a sale or discount. I think the developer is on the right track and I have no doubt the next game that comes out will be better. P.S, for the first boss, the giant enemy, when it gets to it's invulnerable phase, you're supposed to have it throw the boulder at the gates and then you can proceed to the rest of the fight. I really think the developer should've made it so that any attack from the giant would break the gate cause I feel like there's no way to tell you're supposed to let it throw a boulder at the gate without looking it up or have it happen by accident lol
second boss, when start flying phase, i dont know how to damage him, there are two enemies stuck on the walls too. i think its bugged and i can advance
Looks very good graphical - they are very nice dungeon environments and enemies. Atmosphere, model detail and music/sound are good. However there's a big problem with hand rather than head based movement in that although its using the left hand stick for movement its using the RIGHT hand direction for where you actually move. This causes problems in melee combat and makes it very hard to dodge as the movement direction is changing all the time while you swing your sword. I would urge the dev to change hand based movement to use the LEFT hand direction for hand based movement. It would then be consistent with other games such as Blade & Sorcery. Its a key thing with any game - getting your user interface and interactions as standard as possible so ppl can use it intuitively. Ps. As an old D&D player I love the chests :)
The combat is meh, enemies have all the same boring recycled attacks which in the beginning look cool but become boring very quickly.
It's a fairly fun game, focusing on the building on your character by defeating the dungeon dwellers in an ever-increasing number of levels. It starts off pretty overwhelming, but you train and buy equipment and spells until the difficultly level is inline with your abilities. You don't lose anything on death, so even failing will slowly build your character up through repetitive, but nice-looking, slog. For the price, it's fine. I feel like it could be a lot more if they added armour, misc. equipment, wands, etc. More interactive objects and looting enemy bodies would be nice.
I think this game has potential to be the best VR rougelite dungeon crawler out there if the dev continues to be dedicated to adding content and polish.
well worth it. nuff said.
The developer is still updating the game and recently added a 2nd Chapter. After having trouble a tiny amount of trouble finding the starter sword I played a small amount of the first Chapter (about 1 hour). I consider this a solid effort and had a lot of fun on my initial run. There were jump scares and the combat was very satisfying, If you are interested in the genre of dungeon crawlers or rogue like games I would recommend it. BTW The starter sword is in the weapons room on the left behind a green button.
Не стоит вашего времени... даже если вы поклонник соулс серии, особенно если вы поклонник соулс серии. Никакая боевка, никакое окружение, все сделано на рекордно низком уровне, это скорее мем обманка чем реальная игра.
Index user: This game has not aged well. It has a weird belt inventory system. No shoulder storage for swords. You cannot pick up weapons off enemy bodies which felt really insulting after losing my rusty sword in a cutscene. The game is technically playable... but I was not having fun. From a design standpoint... my hands felt tiny, and the world felt massive... and not in a realistic way. The enemies have nice models tho.
