A riveting story that keeps track of your choices/actions that will ultimately determine the ending of the game.
And....more to be disclosed in the future!
At the beginning of the year 2222, a revolutionary technological device proved the existence of a soul which solidified proof of a higher power. The year is now 2973. The vast majority of humanity has been tank-bred over the past centuries due to a highly contagious otherworldly virus that permanently altered reproductive genomes and therefore effectively sterilized most of humanity. A dire consequence of this artificial breeding is that those who are tank-bred are soulless. You are Matthew, one of the soulless, an experimental tank-bred super soldier part of the royal regime task force division. You are sent on your lonesome to investigate a distress signal from a research facility located in Poseidon, a water-rich planet found in "The Black-Eye Galaxy". Luna, who is the Royal Protector of Mars, and her team were sent days before to investigate but communication with them has been lost. This is where your adventure begins.

literally impossible to play with more then half of the screen cut off fix this ♥♥♥♥ or give me my 4 dollars back lol i mean wtf this shouldnt even be a problem (you cant even read the main menu to try to fix it yourself) (update) developer saw and fixed issue within an hour or two of this review
TL;DR: This a really good foundation that is thoroughly let down by the dev's use of AI. I got it for 2 dollars on sale, and can't recommend anyone spend more than that. This is meant to be an informational review as I know the game is in EA, and I do have good things to say about it, but I can't recommend the game as it currently stands, and would recommend people give this one a lot of time to cook. For a positive, the combat and weapon design feel very good. Some weapons feel a little strange balancing wise but they all have fun designs and I like the system with the different ammo and damage types. I do also like the bullet time mechanic and like how generous the game is with it; I have always been a big fan of bullet time shooters and it's nice to see more of them. The Cons: AI. This game clearly wants to be taken seriously as a story driven singleplayer game on some level (there is a conversation choice system and seemingly a companion system/NPC relationship system) that is THOROUGHLY let down in any way by the AI voice acting. All of the performances are flat to the point where I genuinely cannot find a reason to care, and I suspect that a lot of the writing was handled by AI as well due to the strange dialogue pacing and excessive exposition. Said exposition also does nothing to establish any reason for the game's events or make you care about the characters. It's got the writing tone of a YouTube "AI Movie" that's just a collection of bad AI gifs narrated by a monotone voice. The clear areas to improve are writing and hiring voice actors. The game is aesthetically appealing, runs well, and there's a solid base to build off of for the combat. But the story is AI slop and I likely won't touch it again unless they hire actual actors and likely rewrite all the dialogue.

Nothing but good things to say so far. Sophonce takes the Hero Shooter approach and definitely brings it, making each checkpoint seem like an accomplishment. Magnificent graphics, solid controls and simple, yet challenging, game-play has got me hooked; can't wait to see where it all goes.. Updates have been small, but frequent, and are definitely noticeable in-game. I think we have a winner here, we all just need to be patient and let this develop. This one was worth the wait.
Very surprised by this game. Was a bit wary with the low price, number of reviews, and never having heard of the game/dev. But I decided to give it a chance and am really impressed, especially considering it was made by a single developer. The game play is very polished and I experienced no bugs. The game was a bit difficult at first but becomes more reasonable as you become accustomed to the controls and environment. I also was able to complete the whole game (prologue and 1st chapter) in vr using uevr. Everything worked great with a few small tweaks except zoom did not seem to work (at no fault to the dev as it was not designed for vr). Overall, very impressed and excited to see the upcoming chapters as well as anything else from this dev...
The graphics are really good and the game runs very smoothly for something in early access!
Sophonce surprised me in the best way possible. For an Early Access title, it runs incredibly smooth, which already sets it apart from a lot of other EA games that feel more like tech demos. The story grabbed me right away—it’s mysterious, layered, and the fact that my decisions actually matter gives it real replay value. The combat feels great too. The weapons have weight, the abilities add variety, and pulling off telekinetic mayhem never gets old. Reflex mode (slow-mo) makes every encounter feel cinematic, and it’s hard not to spam it just to feel like a sci-fi action hero. What I really appreciate is that Sophonce feels ambitious but not half-baked. You can tell there’s a long road ahead in development, but what’s here already feels polished and fun. If this is only Chapter 1, I can’t wait to see how wild things get later. Also, shoutout to the dev—one person making something this smooth and engaging is pretty insane. If he keeps this up, we might have the next cult-classic sci-fi FPS on our hands. Final thought: Sophonce is like if F.E.A.R. and Mass Effect had a baby that was raised by Half-Life and given superpowers. And honestly? That’s the kind of weird family tree I want to keep playing in. Check out my First Impression video here: https://youtu.be/oHHp1z_GGTY
I had bad framerate on the Steam Deck but the game still felt good to me. Minor issues are in the settings themselves some of them won't change. https://youtu.be/pQ4a6QL4Djk?si=TcCSGLAyXFrJGt8i
While this game still has a lot it needs to have added and polished, its potential is exciting and the story feels fresh compared to recent fps games. There's a lot to be said about the content of this game, namely the combat. The fighting felt very rewarding at times but also felt very in your face, without much cover it doesn't feel too tactical but i personally found it enjoyable in that way. The AI likes to run at you with no sense of self preservation, which is its own element but i do hope it gets tweaked and more balanced for realism reasons and gameplay. The combat forced me to be fast and decisive and the shotgun was especially satisfying though. I do wish the aiming was an aim down sights sort of deal but the halo type aiming seems fitting with the setting and has its own charm. The abilities within the game are also quite important but i didnt know when to use them and for the most part held on to them, id like to see them improved and maybe become more of an important part of the game (i could be playing wrong so dont take my word on that). What i enjoyed most about Sophonce was the feeling. It was like playing halo for the first time again, and not in a copy-paste sort of way. Sophonce is new and unique, it has its flaws but it feels fun. One of the few downsides is the amount dialogue too action ration which is a bit high, but when you consider the fact that its early access its reasonable that were getting a taste of both. I really can not wait to see where it goes from here, absolutely recommend for people who want to try something new that feels familiar. *edit: Combat update is great, things feel better than before and are especially satisfying
Absolutely dope game, I loved the play and feel of this game. Super excited for chapter 2!
cons: its too difficult at the moment, im not saying this as a 180 year old gamer who just trying to relax damit. ive played many games with a difficult reputation, from all soulsborne games to all stalker games, i can do difficult, this is too much tho. the combat system seems underbaked, due to enemys locking onto you with no real way to avoid damadge and just fireing periodically. every encounter is an arena with you being boxed in arenas with nothing interesting really to interact with. enemies enter through an impenetrable starwars darth maul like gate which makes the lockon more frustrating. the item pickups arent visually clear. the shield power not only didnt trigger for me when i replayed that section, they feel unbalanced as do the guns, with non of them being satisfying or strong enough to make the encounters fair in any way. the difficulty slider may just be broken since ive played on every difficulty exept hard and i didnt notice a diffrence, the first difficulty i selected was the royal protector setting, so it might have gotten stuck on it somehow. some of the npc animations seem placeholder. pro:visually striking, well written, well paced, i love the aesthetic, great variety of guns so far (it might be all tho idk). a heck of an aim trainer if nothing else.
