What a lovely adventure game in which you play as Miho, who is helping his grandma to make soup. However, when you try to retrieve a potato from the pantry, the sack with potatoes gets stolen, and it's up to you to retrieve it. It has missable achievements; completion takes around 4 to 5 hours. A young boy who is helping his grandma make soup. Grandma asks you to retrieve a potato from the pantry, but when you try to do that, something weird is going on with the pantry... and in the end, the potatoes get stolen. So it is up to you to retrieve the potatoes. I really did enjoy the story of SOPA. It is a lovely story about a child's fantasy of an adventure. It is unclear what is real and what isn't... if anything is real. But that is not even important. It is all about an incredible journey with bizarre creatures and weird but great stories. It is clearly an adventure game, but in some way it also felt a bit like a point-and-click game, without the point-and-click part. The solutions for some of your problems feel like solutions you would find in point-and-click games. I'm so impressed with the way the story is told and the beautiful artwork! The game's ambiance does a fantastic job of portraying the settings in which this adventure takes place, and there are numerous details in the artwork. It clearly shows how much love is poured into all the detailed artwork, and it brings the game to life. In my second playthrough, I noticed even more details than in the first one. The only downside I can think of is for achievement hunters like me, the game doesn't have chapter selection. I hope they might be able to add it later, but if not, the game is short and easy to replay, especially when you know what you're doing. I would say the achievements take around 4 to 5 hours, even when having to replay parts of the game. Especially pay attention to the achievements for listening to grandma's stories, as 2 of those 3 achievements are close to the end of the game. The other missable achievements are close to the start of the game. Refer to the introduction of my achievement guide, linked above, for more details on when these events occur. I give SOPA - Tale of the Stolen Potato 4.5 out of 5 stars. [code]Do you enjoy games that don't have missable achievements? "SOPA” is one of those rare games that feels like it was made straight from the heart. Every frame, every sound, every quiet moment carries the same kind of love and care that goes into a family recipe passed down through generations. It’s tender, nostalgic, and deeply human — a story that invites you to slow down and remember what truly matters. Playing it felt like sitting at the kitchen table with loved ones, surrounded by warmth, memory, and hope. And for those who grew up in or love Latin America, there are hidden easter eggs that feel like little winks from home — details only someone who truly understands the region could have included. It’s not just a game — it’s a feeling. Beautiful, comforting, and cooked with soul. 10/10 — tastes like home.
What a gem! The game oozes all the love it was made with and it's funny as hell. The visuals are beautiful, the music is nice, and the animation is top notch. You follow Miho on a truly wild [strike]goose [/strike] potato chase and you meet so many colorful characters. OF COURSE all of them have just one really small favour to ask of you -- surely you can fit that into your leisurely time table, right? Right?! Anyhow, my only real issue is that I wish it was longer. Without going for 100% achievements, it took me about three hours to finish the story. On the subject of achievements, it would be nice if the game offered a chapter select after beating it, especially since some achievements are dexterity challenges that most people probably won't beat at first try. Overall though, I loved my time with SOPA. I hope we'll see much more from StudioBando in the future. <3
Love it! Funny and clever. Beautiful art. Great puzzles :)
beautiful game
A simple vista parece una aventura muy infantil , pero cuando te adentras un poco ves que es una maravilla de juego
A big no unfortunately. Techical issues with pop-ups and frame rate, a story that I just could not care, repetitive music, ugly visuals, simple and boring puzzles. Some glimpses of humor here and there, but not enough to save the game...
A cute Studio Ghibli style adventure game, where you are a young boy on a fantastic journey on the hunt for the potato stealing frog that stole your grandmothers potatoes, end escaped into a hidden portal in the pantry... It's a bit jank, especially the camera and there where some minor glitches, nothing game breaking, but noticable. It looks pretty good, with colorful cartoony graphics, but the voices are the typical gibberish sounds that where popular in N64 games, I get that it's for cost saving reasons, but i do feel a game that tries to be a cartoon would be better served with real voice action. The gameplay is mostly typical inventory puzzles and the story is funny in a silly wholesome way and does end with sequel bait. Hopefully this does well enough to make the sequel possible, because minor complaints aside, this was a fun game. My game time was however greatly inflated due to keeping the game on. It's more like 2 hours if you don't care about achievements and just want to play the game, I also left the game running for a while, The achievements however are surpringly tricky for what feels like a child friendly game. There are several missable dialogue ones taht you only get one shot at, and the river section is kind of infuriating, partially due to the jank camera. Luckily you can quit and reload, but if you get past a specific achievement and the game autosaves, you will need to play the entire game from the start. No manual saves, no chapter selection. Seriously, I don't even understand why some devs keep insisting on one single save slot for their games.
