"Sono" is not really a game so much as it is a poorly made minimalist "musical art experience", which should tell you exactly why this did so badly on Steam. We're here for games. It's difficult to call this a game; it feels less like an entertainment product and more like a digital art exhibit trying to pass itself off as a game. What negligible gameplay there is serves only as a flimsy excuse to pass this off as a game when gameplay wasn't the developers intention... and that's a problem. We're here for games. It's true that games can be art, of course... art is where the pinnacle of creativity, craftsmanship and expertise come together to form something greater than the sum of its parts. This product does a poor job of all of those three. The Mona Lisa would not be hanging in the Louvre if she was drawn as a stick figure in crayon on a napkin. The "game" here, such as it is, is of a pretty low technical standard. The implementation is basic, minmimum effort stuff, more like a 'weekend project' rather than a commercial/professional product... it's bad even compared to most amateur made games. An experimental piece... and the experiment is "can I spend $100 on Steam Direct and then call myself a game dev?" While that $100 spend on Steam Direct probably made the developers feel good about themselves, we have to ask why this kind of thing is good for gamers. The graphics aren't great, minimalistic "art" assets and nothing else. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. This game is fairly dated at 5 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
A very relaxing little game and something quite different, but unfortunately way too short. I can only recommend that the developers work on an updated or expanded version with much more playtime, the whole thing really has some solid potential. I’d absolutely love to have a game like this that I can come back to now and then to unwind after a hard day at work. I was just about to write the developers an email, but the webpage no longer exists. ChillSwitch Games are you still out there?
This is a work of art. The visuals are unreal! The gameplay is slightly slow but it's more of just a relaxing little artistic adventure. Musicly and through the art. Though being very simple, it feels very interactive. The movement control is a little anoying just because of how slow it takes to rotate, it makes it harder to position yourself, in a game about positioning. It also feels a little short and maybe some other ideas could of bean intruduced, but overall I had a really great time! Would love to play a full version of this game with more ideas and that would last longer. I definently recomend, very satisfying!
Sono, oyuncuların soyut bir mikrokozmosta zahmetsizce süzülüp kayıp ses parçalarını topladığı 2 boyutlu bir keşif oyunudur.
'Sono' is a serene 2D exploration game that invites players to glide effortlessly through a captivating microcosm, collecting scattered fragments of sound. With its minimalist design and fluid controls, the game offers a truly soothing experience that’s best enjoyed with headphones, immersing you in an entrancing soundscape. Completing the game, took me approximately 7 minutes, though it lacks any Steam achievements. While the game has only one ending and lacks a save feature, its straightforward instructions make it accessible to players of all skill levels, earning it a low difficulty rating of 1/10. Originally designed as an Alt.Ctrl game using a MIDI controller, 'Sono' has now been optimized for both keyboard and controller input, making it accessible to a wider audience. This accessibility is a welcome addition, as more people can now experience the game's charm. One of this game’s greatest strengths is its simplicity. There's no fear of failure, allowing players to glide gracefully through the abstract environment. The game's three unique worlds provide a brief but deeply satisfying escape. The atmosphere is one of the highlights, with sound as the central theme. The ambient music and sound effects blend perfectly with the visuals, creating a deeply immersive environment that feels almost meditative. In conclusion, 'Sono' is a beautiful, bite-sized experience that delivers tranquility through its innovative sound-based exploration. Free to play and elegantly simple, it’s perfect for anyone in search of a relaxing, artistic game.
