It is insane to see the passion on display here compared to games made by studios with billoins of dollars and manpower at their disposal. Mind you, Songs Of Rats is not perfect., the game can be frustrating and repetitive at times, especially starting out. However the art and (granted) sparse music set the tone wonderfully. For all you book-lovers out there, while playing i was reminded of the novel "Hull Zero Three" by Greg Bear, it would not surprise me to find that novel having been an inspiration for the game. Try the demo. If you like it, support the devs. I would love to see more from them.
This is a game that does beautifully what it sets out to do. Sure, it could use a little technical polish, but that doesn't take away from the overall effect. Songs of Rats really nails the spirit of the old Choose Your Own Adventure books while throwing in a bit of RPG randomness that makes it highly replayable. Every run I've played so far has felt different and pushed me to try out various playstyles. There are lots of events throughout, and even similar ones can play out differently each time. Plus, the art is spot-on, the text is short and to the point, and the soundtrack is atmospheric. I highly recommend this game to fans of minimalistic RPG/roguelike gaming who don’t need bombastic fluff to enjoy a good old-school adventure that doesn’t take much time to play but still delivers an intense experience.
Fun game. Not too punishing even though there is a lot of RNG but you have plenty of choices. You can use food to heal at any time during fights or out of them. Would like to see more unique events with bits of lore. I don't have anything negative to say about this game. I love the art work. There is a story mode and sandbox mode. Good Job devs.
Cool game. Nice aesthetic. Would buy on sale. Music and sound get get a little repetitive, but nice on the whole. Can pet the dog / 10
The game is fun, a bit on the shorter side since it gets repetitive pretty quick, but I got it during the launch sale and it was truely a good experience for the price paid. A few, more detailed notes, but keep in mind that they are only a few slight negatives or just personal opinions on an overall great game : - A bit too easy, once a run is going it's truely hard to fumble things up : the ability to use healing items during fights coupled with the fact that you end up stockpiling first aid kits truely trivialize the late game. - The game would really benefit for more encounters/events and a "hardmode" imo (more powerful enemies, prices of the shops higher and/or less rewards for fights, not being able to heal and attack on the same turn during a fight - just heal and try to run. Maybe even with permanent disabilities that you can heal with special encounters/at a high cost, discarding one more supply each day for each companion you have, to really push players to adopt a more strategic playstyle and make them unable to stockpile a stupid amount of food later in the run... just a few ideas I'm throwing around, maybe they're bad, maybe they're not) - I encountered a few minor bugs (one of them was gaining an AP with the last AP of my day iirc, sending me to camp with no options other than reloading the game). Nothing really serious, but they exist. - I said the game was a bit on the easier side, and while it's true once the run is going, the early days can be truely punishing, it would be less of a reset fest if the difficulty was slightly more progressive in the early days (just the 5/10 first days at most, enough time to get a piece of gear or two) Other than that, great job ! Artists really nailed the atmosphere (both visually and musically). I hope updates are coming and I'll definitely give them a shot if they add content.
Songs of Rats to tekstowa gra fabularna z elementami roguelike. W grze zajmujemy się eksploracją mrocznego i pełnego niebezpieczeństw świata Wrakowiska. Przemierzamy labirynty korytarzy, opuszczone laboratoria, zbrojownie czy opustoszałe fabryki. Znajdujemy w nich fragmenty różnych cywilizacji i zgłębiamy tajniki tegoż mrocznego uniwersum.
Decent little choose your own adventure story. Good world building. Felt difficult at first but once i discovered the ability to use food to heal it invalidated a lot of the difficulty later on as it was not a very scarce resource. If an encounter couldn't kill me in one hit it was not going to kill be at all. You can get an ending or two in an afternoon.
RATS RATS WE ARE THE RATS!
It's very fun, there's still few bugs and issues, like when I reload a save my companions disappear and once my objective was gone. But it is not too long of a game to play in one sitting either, so I don't see it as an issue. Otherwise, I really enjoy it!
