After being disappointed by the Actraiser remake, Renaissance, I was wanting more and I found this game instead. This game is closer to an Actraiser remake than Renaissance was, in my opinion. The graphics are nice, the gameplay is responsive, the music is pretty good. I would absolutely replay this game again in the future. Some of the combat sections are challenging but it never felt too difficult or completely unfair. Some of the enemy placement is a bit BS, and rather than most of it requiring skill or reflexes, it comes more down to just complete level memorization to not get hit. So that could be improved upon, but the game is still really enjoyable and solid overall. I would really like to see more games in this style in the future. I would definitely buy a sequel game or a spinoff.
Unreal Engine 4 ActRaiser. And surprisingly, unlike most UR4 games, it doesn't feel too terribly sluggish. It's a coin toss between which is better, the official ActRaiser remake (Renaissance was it? Originally made for mobile phones so... not ideal) or this, which was developed for native PC. Of course the SNES original beats them both - the action is still the same 'bum rush the boss and hope your life bar's longer' but SolSeraph swaps tower defence for the town simulator. Despite some decent character writing (there's some chuckles to be had, well done) the bits from the original ActRaiser where you get life/magic power-ups from developing the town or calling down lightning strikes in suspicious areas on the map to reveal magic are gone. The replacement for that - shorter side-scrolling beat 'em alls to pick up HP/MP extensions - isn't bad but you can tell this is the part where the budget starting biting into things. Even at full price you could do much worse than this (coughs at Renaissance).
I could overlook most of the faults this game has, but the wine mom humor is unforgiveable: "I'm just a relic of the past." "Does the past still like soup?" "Always."
Half baked, jank fest is the best I can say about this. The graphics are OK, but character and enemy animations are terrible. Movement in water and out are rubbish. The enemies just don't really make any sense. It's like they had a mish mash of assets available and just threw in whichever they saw first. Couldn't force myself to play past the first boss with how terrible the game play is. The story, if there is one, doesn't show anything interesting of itself at the beginning of the game. Even if it improves later, I can't see it being worth getting to that point.
I never played the game people are comparing it to so this game feels refreshing to me. I didn't realize it was tower defense, I like tower defense but at first this felt awkward until you understand how it works. The strategy is intact. Then there's the platforming sections which are cool too. It's brutal in an old school kind of way but I never felt it was unfair. Graphics are gorgeous and the music is awesome too which makes it feel like an exciting and refreshing game to play. And on top of that there's a bit of a story too. So a lot to take in here. Very fresh feeling game.

I tried to like this, but it failed. I thought since it's in the spirit of Actraiser it would be fun like it. But,this pales in comparison. What has done this? The city building. It's way more difficult and tedious. To ad nauseam. There is no difficulty setting either. I refunded.
Это капец, взял набор для поддержки ACE Team а тут эта трешатина и игры начиная с Zeno clash 2 не работают нормально, советую к покупке ток последние 2 игры компании///
Just bought the game for $5 CDN. It feels about worth that much, maybe a little more. The combat is frustrating but you get used to the odd timing pretty quick. It does need a whole bunch of work though. I feel like this was made for controller not mouse and keyboard so keep that in mind ( I have only used mouse an keyboard so far). The one thing I think needs a lot of work as far as action goes is the jumping and the bow power. The bow power only has 3 aim modes. Up 45 degrees and straight from either a crouch or standing. This doesn't match the all of the ranged enemies with their super accurate bow shots and seeking magic later. The jump needs a massive redesign, which sounds weird because it's a jump right? But the thing is, we have wings, but it doesn't feel like we do. It feels like a jump designed for a normal person but with a really inconsistent double jump included. Make the jump higher, include a dive/dive attack and allow for midair dodges. I'm not saying let the character fly but give them more mobility like most of the other enemies have. The basic goblin type enemies have a longer jump than the playable character who is supposed to be a demigod. Given I've only cleared the first area (not level, area) and a bit, the two boss fights I've done so far have been ok. First one is just a big enemy that becomes a miniboss in later stages. The second one was more unique, both in terms of design and fighting style. Level design need a little reworking. The spider enemies just sit there and deal damage if you come into their hit-box. The thorns and bramble are just annoying and half the time they just let you walk through them and the other half they juggle you dealing damage between them, just get rid of that. The water parts were a fun and interesting addition. The building is much better, you have a simple clear set of resources you can manage and if you make a mistake, every building refunds 100% (so far) so you can play around and no worry about running out of wood. I'd recommend clearing levels as soon as you are able since the waves of enemies get harder regardless of if you wait or not. One thing I'd like is something to do with you're village after to beat the area. So far I haven't found anything other than reassigning them to farming. It would be nice to build some things for them to enjoy or upgrade their huts and buildings or something. Not required but it would be nice. World map is fun to fly around but you quickly realise its not that big. Thats fine I wasn't expecting it to be huge and if you buy the game don't expect 100 different area's, there are like 5 or 6 total each with levels within. First area took me about and hour and I spent half a hour banging my demigod head against one of the later area's before I was supposed to. The story is good, not great, I wasn't crying and I don't remember any of the character names so far other than our main guy. I'm a little disappointed the main character doesn't have a voice despite having dialog. Other than that the writing and voice work is fine. The names are pretty straight forward and either generic or taken from mythology. You've got Sky Father and Earth Mother (generic mythology names), Helios (just the Greek sun god), Tree King (not very creative) and other bosses I haven't encountered. At least I remember the names so far which is more than I can say for the human characters of which so far there have been 2. So far only the humans are voiced so don't expect any fight banter or voice lines from bosses swearing revenge. Art Design is fine, our main boy is an angel with some speckled wing, love to see it. Most of the enemies aren't very creative, goblins, trolls, spiders, slimes and some water biased enemies that are just sea creatures. The backgrounds are unfortuatly not very striking. I didn't even notice the sky boxes until one of the later levels and they just look like 3d assets on a 2d plane. I will say without spoiling the first boss does have a cool design that is even foreshadowed in level design so it gets point for that. We will see if the others have equally good presentation. Overall SolSeraph is a fine game. Not top tier and I wouldn't be so forgiving if this was from a big game developer that had more resources. Overall I give it a 7/10 for this price point. Could use an update.
