A puzzle game with simple mechanics, taken to challenging heights.
If you look forward to imagining little pulses of colored light bouncing around in your imagination, trying to solve the latest puzzle in your head while you're away from your computer, then this game is for you -- you know who you are. It will scratch that itch. I did not 100% this, as the challenge pushed a little harder than I had the appetite for after the credits rolled and I was mopping up optional achievements. But through to the credits the challenge was high enough to be engaging and ramped up comfortably over time. This gave me so many doses of "ooo I'm smart" and I got hooked on it. I'm looking forward to future games by this developer!
I remember having no idea what to do in these levels, and I hated it.
hypno-puzzle game that gives me nausea unlike anything else i've ever played, I can't play it for more than a few hours at a time as it gives me this strange metallic taste like i've been watching a heart pump blood while rewiring the veins and arteries thats unlike anything else. This game is horrible and unique I ""recommend"" it.
LOVE this game. 100%'d before it made it to Steam, thrilled to stumble across it here. Absolutely brilliant and original puzzle game. Not much else to add besides what other folks have mentioned.
Solas 128 is a laser/mirror puzzle game. One of the distinct features is that you are solving a super giant puzzle one segment at a time. I can tell that is a made with lots of love so I feel bad for giving a thumbs down, but it is what it is. I actually really like mirror puzzle games so I wanted to try this one out. The main problem for me was that it looks like a weird retro game with screen shakes, pixelation special effects etc and they are all distracting. The goal of each segment is not always clear which is poor design. A sacrifice that was made to keep the grand puzzle concept I suppose, but I strongly prefer clean simple games. The game also has all sorts of rules, like certain colours turn into other ones, lines will change direction when merged, etc. They are completely arbitrary which I didn't like as mirror games are typically more straightforward. If you have a big brain this may be ideal, but just not that fun for my average small brain. Not terrible, but not for me. 5/10
Fun puzzle game about placing mirrors and other objects to manipulate rays of light. The challenge is nicely pitched - tough enough to make my head hurt, but generally doable with enough thought. It's very satisfying to see a solution come together like a finely tuned machine. The pulsing visuals in sync with the (bumping) soundtrack only adds to the effect. I will say that past a certain point I found the solutions too complex to visualise, particularly in rooms with lots of splitters or in puzzles where part of the challenge was finding a way to keep different rays in phase. Usually I was able to reason out enough of the solution that I could see the rest with a bit of tinkering, but it became a little more annoying once
the puzzles turned into sprawling, multi-stage affairs spanning multiple rooms and I needed to figure out which parts were solvable.
There was a particular room towards the end where I found multiple mirror arrangements that accomplished something useful-looking except it was one beat out of phase, and I had to sit down and do actual maths to figure out whether I could remedy that or if it indicated I was going about the puzzle the wrong way entirely (it was
the former
). That's only a minor gripe though. I do see where some of the complaints in the negative reviews are coming from, but they weren't really an issue for me. As long as you go in prepared not to see solutions right away and willing to trial-and-error a room a little bit to get a feel for it, I think it's a great time.
Great puzzle game with catchy soundtrack. I really like puzzle games and finished many with no help like Portal 1 and 2, Filament or The Witness, but this one was too complex for me towards the end. I don't know if it's because it's 2D or I lack certain skill, but
managing multiple screens of what where goes and what needs moved between them
was just impossible for me and had to finish the northern part of the game following the walkthrough. Nevertheless, it plays great.
I really enjoyed the sound track, so long as you take it in small doses. The puzzles are clever and the setting is very interesting. However, toward the end of my playtime, I felt like I was just guessing at where objects would land and what colors they'd turn into. No track or color scheme was made very clear so I eventually lost interest as I didn't feel like investigating much outside the core game itself. It'd be easy to get much more out of the game if you're willing to reach outside help and hints.
