Abstract
Vertically oriented neon madness. I am missing the 0.75 setting to slow down the video… Runs fine with Ubuntu 18.04 Notebook with Intel® HD Graphics 4400 and i7-4600U CPU @ 2.10GHz is enough.
🐧 GNU/Linux
Intel® HD Graphics 4400. This is something. Something special. First ultra confusing, but then you get used to the mix between movement of ship with wasd and shooting with the mouse. Well what I dont like is the constant clicking on my mouse. This could be fixed with some auto clicker / integrated auto fire. Maybe developers might look into this. A lot is going on the screen, very sparkling, very neon, but hey it only costs 1,19 EUR, so worth a look for fans of the genre.
Really cool shooter game, flashy LSD visuals, two shooting patterns, one frontal and one mouse driven, very hard, but very satisfying to play. Climb the leaderboards, fight harder and harder challenges. The Shooting Ships bundle is really filled with little delightful gems!
Je joue sur Linux. Version Linux : excellente.
GNU/Linux
Je n'ai rencontré aucun problème. OS: Linux Mint 20.3 x64, MATE edition. Hardware : 5950x, Nvidia 3080Ti, 64GB ram. Screens : Dualscreen, 1x 4K & 1x 1920x1200, un seul screen X.
Cons: -Too many unecessary visual effects that completely ruin a otherwise great game. It desperately needs a clarity mod. The amount of particle effects can get absurdly excessive (and cosmetic effects that arent relevant to the gameplay at all) make it unbearable at some phases. -no weapon, powerup or build variety (which is reasonable/fair given the low price) Otherwise its a nice game, you control the movement of your ship (with a left controlstick if you like) while the blaststream always shoots directly frontal. With the right hand (mouse) you control/aim a crossfade that deals additional damage. Its really innovative. You keep perma clicking with the mouse, which kind of adds more action and thrill to the control and gameplay.
This is a very short and interesting shoot-'em-up. You have a ship that autofires weak bullets, but you also control a sniper cannon with your mouse, that deals instant and massive damage. The main challenge consists in coordinating your ship's position to avoid damage and to deal damage as effective as possible, while hammering on the left click to destroy the tougher enemies. The game balances out its shortness with its difficulty and scoring system, and each run is basically a speedrun against other global players. All in all, a very fun game to play a few times per day during work breaks!
Shoot fast, die fast. Story: Sniper Ships has no story mode to speak of, so we're going straight to graphics. Graphics: Giving the store page even a single glance lets you know that Sniper Ships is a very colorful yet simplistic game, but one that will test your eye sight and how long can you stare at colorful flashing lights (but a bit more about that later). It's minimalisitic, but it works well, but it's also not without it's issues. Sometimes the colors and the backgrounds really just mush together and with how hard you need to pay attention to the screen at all times, sometimes you will wind up dying because a projectile got too close as it blended in to the background. It's not that big of an issue most of the time, but it does happen, sometimes and usually will tick you off. Audio: Music and sound effects are nothing too special. The music is high octane and keeps your senses high at all times and gets intense when it needs to. It also does well with very satisfying arcadey sound effects any time you do blow something up and get points, apart from that there's really not much to say here. Gameplay: Sniper Ships is an on rails shooter where the screen constantly scrolls upwards and you have to gun down everything on the screen. Your ship constantly fires at the top, but you also have a crosshair which you can use to gun down anything that your auto fire can't reach, which creates a unique gameplay loop. It took a bit of time to get used to the controls, but once you get the hang of it, it honestly becomes a blast to go through the levels. Bobbing and weaving through the bullets all while gunning everything down is just pure arcadey fun, however it's not without it's issues. The game is only three levels long and if you're good enough you can finish the entire thing in under 10 minutes, however the games difficulty is brutal to say the least. It almost feels very trial and error with so much stuff flying towards you sometimes you will never get past certain parts on a first time play, but with how fast you can get back to where you were it mostly becomes a drive to get better. Each level also ends with a boss fight and this where the biggest problem of the game arises, the one I mentioned in the graphics section and that's the bullets blending into the background. With all the particle effects sometimes the projectiles sneak up on you and with how little room the maneuver you have that will usually end up in a death, which becomes slightly tiresome, especially on the final boss of the game. Verdict: I had a blast with Sniper Ships. it's fun simple arcadey fun that is both infurianting and satisfying once you get good at it. Although there's not much content, it's still something I can recommend if you want something simple and mindless to play when you're really bored. Final Rating: 7/10 Pros: + Fun and addictive gameplay + Visuals and sound design nail the arcadey look + Satisfying to learn Cons: - A little too short - Projectiles sometimes blend into the background NOTE: I was provided a review key from the developer/publisher for review purposes on the behalf of the group Completing the Backlog.
Very cool! A good mix of FPS with shoot up, with a very psychedelic look, is quite challenging. These neon lights look like 80s movies trying to imagine what the future looks like
What a challenging game! The shot and move controls are very interesting. Maybe a little help for beginners with a shield midgame!
