While the concept is interesting.. The game is incredibly dull and easy. The same tropes you see in everyday indie horrors. Honestly the only saving grace is the mediocre voice acting (because its not the worse voice acting I've heard) 7 dollars is way overpriced for what you're actually doing during the game. The desmiling is interesting at first but gets really old very fast. It's the just the same thing over and over and over again but with slightly different obstacles. You're in the same environment over and over again with new passages over time that look basically the same. Love the concept but very dull and boring.
Adidas is back with a new shoe- I mean Vidas is back with a new game. Look at pictures, find the smiling ones, and desmile them. Rinse and repeat. Its rather repetitive, but the growing difficulty and added tasks keep it engaging. Id say the further you go, the better it gets. After Dye The Bunny 2 I seem a bit spoiled, because of its open and large environments. Smile Simulation feels more like the older Timore games. But that isnt really a bad thing. There are three other modes which I sadly cant comment on at this time, because they never unlocked for me. Hopefully Ill be able to check them out in the future. A really unique take on an indie horror game. I dont know how many times I got jumpscared. Overall solid game.
Quite different to the type of games I usually play, I found this interesting with well-paced level progression. The gameplay style appears simple enough to start but the game doesn't provide all the answers, leaving you to figure out the best strategies for dealing with the new dangers that appear. I'm looking forward to going back and challenging myself with the additional modes. Just to note - there is a fair amount of flashing images (largely during dialogue sections) which photosensitive people may want to be aware of.
A brilliant wee game, something to check out if you are a fan of surreal liminal style horror games and also keep an eye out for some familiar faces too
Had a lot of fun with this one and another great game by Vidas! The idea is you open shutters to various anomalous painting and have to de-smile them to escape, as you progress, the game gets more difficult with various new anomalies/tasks that appear Got me pretty good with the tension of the entities and definitely when they start ganging up! The pictures were fun and enjoyed seeing so many other creators on there, maybe you can find me also? Some were pretty sneaky with their smiles haha, hit me with some good scares and startles, got some chills from the atmosphere at times! And always, rad music and awesome voice acting. I been on a binge of spot the difference horror types of games so this one, having to check the pictures and seeing if they changed or smiled helped hit that interest with other things happening at the same time was the game builds. Played completely through and got to the end, definitely a recommend play! Great job Vidas on another rad game!
This game is awesome! It has great scares and is horrifying and intense. Gets my anxiety going. I love the atmosphere. I love seeing all of the content creators on the walls. They creep me out with their smiles! Love that there are monsters as you proceed with the rounds. Ive played over 2 hours of it and will go back to play it many times more! Thanks for featuring me, Vidas! It's an honor to be part of this with the others!
Smile Simulation is a game where you have to examine portraits and make them stop smiling, but creatures and entities will try to kill you. The sound design and overall vibe of the game are great, and the later levels are challenging once the game starts throwing multiple creatures at you at the same time.
What do I always say? To make a great horror game you just need a clever idea, nothing more. This game here is a very good example. Starting from a simple but original idea, Vidas, one of the most popular masters of horror, managed to create an extraordinarily creepy and challenging survival horror, one of those games that truly tests your capacity to maintain a cold blood in the most tense and frightening situations. Anything I could say here would be a spoiler, so I'll just say this: despite the notorious Vidas' passion for loud jumpscares, here he opted for a subtler, and in the end MUCH scarier, type of horror, i.e., the horror of being in constant danger, the horror that derives from the awareness that there is ALWAYS something on your trail, something that is more than ready to exploit your anxiety and your hesitation. This is the true fuel of nightmares. And this is exactly what this game feels like, a dark and hostile nightmare. More than recommended to anyone who is looking for a short but outstandingly scary horror experience. Cheers guys!
I had a lot of fun with this game and am very impressed about how all of the different elements came together for the overall experience! The environment is very interesting and it has a very dream-like sense to it due to it having a mixture of organic and in-organic elements. The space almost feels like when you travel through an abandoned building and you see nature attempt to reclaim it. You can see the influences of SCP and Backrooms while also keeping true to Vidas' style of environment design. The concept feels familiar enough when connecting elements of this game to games within the "Observation" / "Spot the anomaly" line of games while keeping it refreshing. The sound design and music are really good. They add such satisfying layers to the gameplay loop / overall experience. The VO is enjoyable and a great touch between different levels. This provides the carrot in front of the player to continue on. You not only play to overcome the challenges each level provides but also to uncover more story/lore about the Smile Simulation. (Shout-outs to Cheshire Jack and Kwirkee) Each entity is unique from the other and the layering of entities at later levels make for a very engaging juggle in order to survive. I am honestly so impressed by this game and really had so much fun with this. It was one of the better game experiences I have had thus far this year! This game deserves a lot more attention and reviews! Overall: 7/10 Gameplay & in-depth review/thoughts: https://youtu.be/SBoSarDVC7c
