The game is definitely casual by nature, and not too difficult to learn either. The rules set forth is that for every puzzle, you will have some junctions that tells you how many diagonal lines join up to those locations. You can only draw one diagonal line into each square, and you have to draw diagonals into all of the squares to complete the puzzle. The additional catch is that you cannot form any kind of closed loop with your diagonals on the board. This game features 100 preset puzzles, all but around 20 I could complete through simple logic and process of elimination and just working my way around. There are some givens on each board, such as if you see a junction with a 0, there cannot be anything connected, likewise, a 4 means that all of the diagonals in the surrounding squares are set by default. There are some others, you can figure those out for yourself. Or use the developer-created Steam guide, if you get stuck. What's nice about this game's set up is that all 100 levels are accessible from the beginning, you do not have to work your way in sequence. If you get stuck on one puzzle, you can just skip it and move on. It's similar to opening up a puzzle book, if you want to start with the harder puzzle, go for it. When you exit any puzzle unfinished, your progress within that puzzle is saved automatically, so you can have all 100 puzzles unfinished, in theory, and have a save in each one. You can also undo a number of moves while trying to problem solve, there is a limit, so you cannot keep backing up to the beginning, but you can clear the board any time. You also have a very easy to use Mistake Checker tool that you can click on any time and it will display if any square you filled in is incorrect. If all that you filled in is correct, it will show you a square that you have yet to fill in. This is a good tool if you feel that simple logic is not enough and you want to give yourself an extra given square solved. This may be the case that you want to finish the puzzle but cannot do so on your own, or you are trying to get 100% achievements, I guess. There are 10 achievements here, each one after you have solved 10 puzzles, in any order. So like I mentioned above, I got 8 out of 10 after playing all of the puzzles and giving each one a good honest effort. I have spent so far a little under 7 hours playing, and any more time would just be to fill in the remaining squares with a little AI help to get those last 2 achievements. Is it necessary? No. Will I do it? Not sure, maybe.
Gameplay
Logic puzzle where you fill in a single diagonal line through each of the square on the puzzle and they need to match the correct junction numbers present without creating any closed loops on the board.
Controls
Mouse is all you need. You can click near a corner within a square to place the matching diagonal into that square. You can click to remove it or click near another corner to place the other line in as well. The game has a touch feature, which I did not test.
Graphics
Simplistic.
Music
Ambient music within. I was listening to other stuff while I played.
Audience
People wanting a casual puzzle-solving experience with very simple rules. There's no time limits, no counting how many mistakes you make, etc.
Pricing
Base price is $2.99, so pretty reasonable. I would love to see a way that you can use the AI to generate randomly new puzzles on a grid size of your choice. That would be lovely. But 100 puzzles is enough, I suppose. I do want to see more after playing through everything already.
Where I Would Improve
1. As above, a way to have the computer generate new puzzles, such as in Minesweeper would be wonderful and would keep me returning to play this game time and again. 2. The Tutorial button in-game is right next to the Mistake Checker, leading me to accidentally click it multiple times. And you cannot exit the tutorial without clicking through it. Albeit short, but still time consuming, given the time it takes for all of the text to show up, and to click through.
My First-Look Video (Spoiler: First 10 Levels)
https://youtu.be/PmIso2uddTk
Conclusion
It's a fun, simple, and casual logic game. There are 100 levels, with a small portion that I cannot figure out by pure logic. Some guess work may be needed but the overall game functions well and has a mistake checking tool to quickly tell you about 1 mistake, so you can use that for guessing or helping yourself out. I wish there were more puzzles or a way to generate random sets of puzzles. But given the preset levels, you will get a few hours of good enjoyment.
I received the product for free. Just another one then I'll go do the dishes... Just another one then I'll go do the dishes... Just another one then I'll go do the dishes... *1 hour later looks up notices how dark it's gone....* Oopsie!
I recommend this game to those who enjoy logic puzzles. However, if you enjoy logic puzzles only when you can quickly find the answer, then you probably won't enjoy this. I have completed 60 of the 100 puzzles and there have been times in almost every one of them when I had to follow a sequence of moves to determine whether a cell could be a certain value (but there is always a logical answer with no guessing required). I find this game to be very enjoyable and well worth the asking price.
Idea is interesting. But if you want to play 100% achivements. There are more than one solutions, (game accept only one) and this is annoying. It slows finding them (game become too long)
Very nice, simple concept and clean, minimalist execution. Clicks on the board are very responsive so you can proceed as fast as your wits allows. Recommended for fans of the minesweeper/hexcells puzzle varieties, although this one would probably count more as an entry level challenge (not to say that later levels are actually walks in the park!).
The game is quite fun if you're into this kind of puzzles. At first I stared blankly at the board and had to go through the tutorial a few times, but once I internalised the rules, I was able to proceed, solving 33 levels (out of 100) within the first hour of playtime. In total the game took me 7 hours, with the last ~dozen level being quite engaging. The most important rule for me was "no guessing" - remembering that gave me confidence that the level could always be solved by analysing the board, although admittedly a few times I had to experiment a bit to get things started. The second most important rule was "no closed shapes", it came in handy every time when the numbers didn't give an obvious solution. There a few minor rules I learnt along the way, too, but these two helped me out the most (and thankfully they're mentioned in the tutorial).
The puzzle mechanics are really good, but the game built around them would be much improved with some additional/more complicated features. Other than the error check, these puzzles could be printed out and done on paper (with pencil/rubber) without loosing anything, and I think that shows some wasted potential. Toolbox - I think the game should give a few pointers showing some of the rules that need to be learned to even attempt the harder puzzles. Such as: two 1's cannot connect diagonally unless one is at the edge. Coloured lines - I really struggle to see if I'm about to close a large loop on the bigger puzzles. I'd like there to be an option of colouring lines so that all connected lines became a single colour. I think any line more than 10 links long should become a distinct colour (or that this should be an option to enable). Show Mistake - this is actually too powerful. I think it would be much better if it showed all broken rules (nodes with incorrect numbers of connections and closed loops), and not just the first incorrect line.
Cool and simple puzzle
This is a fun collection of Gokigen Naname (Slant) type puzzles which should be quite enjoyable for anyone who enjoys logic puzzle games. There's 100 of them, all of which are available from the start of the game, so if you get stuck on one, you can always just skip forward a bit, if you like. The game's definitely worth it for the asking price. The Linux version worked like a charm, too! Apart from simply figuring out the various axiomatic deductions throughout the game (I hadn't played this particular kind of puzzle before, so it was new to me), the levels are all more or less the same -- there won't be new mechanics or anything like that. Mostly the levels just get bigger as you progress through. The difficulty curve is a little bit sporadic; I found that I'd get stuck on one for a little while but then blow right through the next few. A few quality-of-life improvements wouldn't go amiss, such as maybe having an alternate-color "testing" mode where you could more easily test out proofs-by-contradiciton. Some weirdness with windowed mode is currently getting sorted out by the developer. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend this to fans of logic puzzle games, and I'm looking forward to seeing more entries in this game series!
