I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.

Silent Gentlemen is a retro-styled role-playing game developed by Cipher Hive and published by My Way Games. The title embraces the design philosophy of classic RPG Maker–style adventures, focusing on turn-based combat, dungeon exploration, and gradual character progression. Rather than presenting a large open world filled with branching narratives and cinematic storytelling, the game delivers a more compact role-playing experience centered on traditional mechanics. Its structure mirrors many older RPGs where the primary appeal lies in exploring dangerous environments, fighting monsters, and steadily improving the abilities of the party. The story introduces players to Uther, a young nobleman who has fallen into an unusual life of moral ambiguity. Although he once belonged to a respectable family, circumstances have led him down the path of robbing wealthy travelers along nearby roads. Unlike typical bandits, however, Uther believes he is redistributing wealth and protecting those who cannot defend themselves. His life changes when he receives a message from Mathilde, a childhood friend who has recently returned from a pilgrimage. Mathilde is trapped in a remote outpost where the local ruler, a corrupt baron, has tightened his control over the surrounding region. Concerned for her safety and angered by the growing injustice in the area, Uther decides to gather allies and travel to the outpost to confront the forces threatening the town. The journey quickly leads players into the darker corners of the region, particularly the underground dungeons that stretch beneath the settlement. These labyrinthine environments form the core of the gameplay experience. Players guide Uther and his companion Oliveiro through corridors filled with hostile creatures, hidden treasures, and dangerous traps. Each dungeon presents new enemy types and increasingly difficult encounters that require players to carefully manage their party’s abilities and resources. Progressing deeper into these environments becomes a constant challenge, as stronger enemies demand better strategies and upgraded equipment. Combat follows a classic turn-based format where each character acts according to a set order during battles. Players select attacks, defensive actions, or special abilities from a menu while monitoring the health and status of their party members. As enemies are defeated, characters gain experience points that gradually increase their level and unlock new combat skills. Equipment found within dungeons or purchased from merchants further enhances the party’s effectiveness. This steady progression system encourages players to continue exploring and fighting enemies in order to build a stronger team capable of facing more dangerous opponents. While the narrative provides the motivation for the adventure, the game places greater emphasis on gameplay than storytelling. Dialogue sequences exist primarily to introduce key characters and establish the conflict surrounding the corrupted outpost. Most of the player’s time is spent navigating dungeons and engaging in combat rather than following an extensive plot. This design choice reflects the game’s retro inspiration, where exploration and progression often took priority over complex narratives. The visual presentation reinforces this nostalgic approach. The game uses pixel-based sprites and tile-based maps reminiscent of classic RPG Maker titles from earlier decades. Characters are depicted through simple animated sprites that move across villages, forests, and underground corridors. Although the graphics are relatively basic by modern standards, they are colorful and easy to read, allowing players to quickly identify enemies, items, and environmental details while exploring the map. Sound design complements the retro aesthetic with a traditional RPG soundtrack. Background music accompanies exploration and combat sequences, helping establish the tone of each location. The tracks are not overly elaborate but provide a steady atmosphere that supports the gameplay. Sound effects during combat and exploration offer clear feedback for actions such as attacks, spellcasting, and item usage. Despite its charm, the game does have limitations that may stand out to players familiar with modern RPGs. The combat system, while functional, does not introduce many innovative mechanics beyond the standard turn-based formula. Similarly, the dungeon environments can begin to feel repetitive over time due to their similar layouts and enemy encounters. Because the narrative remains relatively simple, players who prefer story-driven RPGs with extensive dialogue and character development may find the experience somewhat limited. Another factor affecting the game’s appeal is its modest scope. The world primarily revolves around the central outpost and its surrounding dungeons rather than offering a vast continent to explore. While this smaller scale helps keep the adventure focused, it may leave some players wishing for a broader range of environments and side activities. Nevertheless, Silent Gentlemen still manages to capture the essence of classic dungeon-crawling RPGs. Its straightforward progression system and familiar gameplay loop make it easy to pick up and enjoy, especially for players who appreciate nostalgic RPG Maker experiences. The combination of exploration, combat, and character upgrades provides a steady rhythm that can be satisfying for those who enjoy gradually strengthening their party. Overall, Silent Gentlemen is a modest but sincere tribute to traditional role-playing games. While it does not attempt to reinvent the genre, it delivers a familiar experience built around dungeon exploration and turn-based battles. Players who enjoy retro RPG mechanics and simple adventure stories may find it an enjoyable journey, even if its limited scope prevents it from reaching the depth of larger RPG titles. Rating: 6/10
