Shrug Island - The Meeting, is an unsual but fun and original point and click adventure game. You'll have around 1.5-2 hours of good atmospheric fun with this first chapter of Shrug Island. Check out some gameplay: https://youtu.be/TfCtvELqRk8
Shrug Island is a unquine take on point and clicks, a genre i play alot. The graphics are not just pleasent to look at, but you can see a lot of time and care has gone into them, the sound is ok nothing special, where the sound comes in, is in the gameplay where you use sound to do things, the controls are simple to use and easy to understand, the game took me about an hour, but like i said i play alot of point and clicks, the puzzles are somewhat easy when you understnd the gameplay, but could prove hard for those who don't and should last anything between 1-4 hours of gameplay, dependent on how you play, overall i really enjoyed the game, like usal with short games it leaves you wanting more, but as this is Tiny red Camels first game and in that case its ok, i can't wait to see me from them. Here is some gameplay so you can see for your self, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reZL0iGvmog i personal give this game a 8.2/10
Shrug Island - The Meeting is a hand-drawn tale, a game of nature, puzzles and musical adventure for desktops (PC/Mac and Linux) and tablets (iOS/Android). It’s the first episode of an extended version of a casual game for mobile; next episodes, with different protagonists, are actually in development and crownfunded on Kickstarter. In this episode, you play as two separated friends trying to meet as they reconnect with a living home they’ve been away from for a season. Li and Shri, are the two little Shrugs you switch back and forth to play with. They’ve come home separately, and are struggling to find each other. The Island is the third core character of the game, with its personality and voice. It has been asleep for awhile and the kids will determine what mood it wakes up in. Learning its musical language is key to the making the two friends meet, and realizing there is not only warm fantasy but powerful trouble ahead, on a road of friendship. The Shrug world is an Island that speaks to its people with music, and is once a year covered by the tides. Its the home of the Shrugs, beings deeply connected to nature and shape shifting with it. Shrug Island is based on the world from student animated film by Alina Constantin, lead designer of the game. “Shrug” was awarded in Annecy in 2009 and made it to children film festivals around the world. I'm sure the dev's artisitc visions were made well. this is a point and click ( that had no tags for it before I purchased it , I was tricked I feel ) there's only one opiton "resolution" no vsync ( the game runs at 445fps for me ) the animation looks to be at 12fps, so im not sure why the game needs to run without frame lock, most of the time you're looking at a still image on screen, with GIf quality loop animations on the sides. it's very slow paced, things take forever to resolve ( again, at a blistering 445 fps.... ) not for me. idespise being tricked into thinking a game is more than what it appears. I added the point and click tag ( whihch was absent at the time of purchase ) you're welcome to future potential customers. i refunded it after i tried ot play it, and yeah... slow, boring and artistic to the point where it really shouldve just been an animated short like the one they made back in 2009.
A point and click adventure with stunning visuals and beautiful soundtrack. The puzzles are interesting and the story seems... spiritual almost - in its watercolour Dreamtime world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFg6Xz7X3AE
While the music and illustrations provide a lovely experience, the game itself is not very satisfying. Each scene has about one real puzzle, sometimes intuitive, sometimes a guessing game. Some hints would have been helpful for the more complex spots (very few), and I personally could have done without the map that just kept reminding how short of a game this is. Criticism aside, if you've come here for a short cute point and click adventure, where you're more interested in aesthetics rather than gameplay itself, you've come to the right place.
If you like cute point and click adventure games that take about 2 hours to play, then I recommend this. The music, both as a puzzle and as a soundtrack is beautiful, and the animation is really nice. I got stuck a couple of times, but only because I didn't know there was somewhere else I could go.
A short (it's the first chapter of a bigger project in the making) beautifully looking and sounding game with nice clever puzzles, that gives you a warm feeling.
Shrug Island glimpses into a meditative and poetic journey through stunningly inspiring artwork, only mollified by disappointingly passable game design.
This beautiful spiritual ode to nature and harmony is recommended with caution due to its unclear or oversimplified interactions. Puzzles in particular are uncharacteristically unimaginative considering the fantastic level of creativity expressed in every other aspect. One character's ability seeks object fragments from another dimension that plays like a tiny hidden object game, while the other moves environment pieces with musical notes. Put things back in order. Remember and replay sequences. It's all a bit dull but the overall world would merit a deeper exploration in a longer adventure.
Positive

A vibrant world inspired by ancient folklore rich in lovely story stems
Mesmerizing soundtrack
Compelling animated watercolor paintings
Helpful characters tell what needs to be done or when to move on

Negative

Creative but inexpertly exploited game mechanics
Most locations barely have a handful of interactive hot spots
Some interactions feel totally random and often bereft of logic
Severely underdeveloped narrative and characters
It is difficult to get fully invested in this very short story with approximately 1 hour of content. I usually appreciate short experiences but this one feels more like a polished intro to a new world than a full game. Yet it is also quite fascinating and worth the short moment of peace it offers.
