About
The journey ahead is grim, and it's waiting for you...
Shrine Of The Forest God is a passion project developed solo based on the inspiration of simplistic art styles and environmental storytelling. Landed in a mysterious world, you must make your way to gain abilities, discover secrets, solve mysteries, and fight your way up to face the powerful being that awaits at the top of the mountain in this short, open-world adventure.
Set your resting place wherever you go!
Stand in an open space and when prompted, you can move the checkpoint wherever you are. Entering this spot would also completely heal you and revive downed companions.
Slash, shoot, and fight your way through the enemies that stand in your way.
Find weapons that aid you on the way, including a quick gun to shoot at a range or a deflector that will shield you from oncoming threats!
The world of Shrine of the Forest God is very interpretational, as you find out what happened around you based on what visuals you see around you.
This includes the language that several characters would speak throughout the game.
With little dialogue, you'll find clues and hints based on what these visuals show.
Explore a vast and open world and learn what happened on this mysterious mountain...

Am I tripping rn?? It's a platformer, I think, and that's obvious. But what a platformer. The gameplay is difficult. But not because the level is difficult, but because everything is hard to see. The graphics are really specific, but it gives a certain vibe. I really liked that the levels are huge. You’ll always have to run somewhere, fight with someone, do something. And it drags on for a long time. In general, the game is cool, just go in and play once, taking a break from super realistic AAA projects. This game is really good. The atmosphere is shrouded in mystery, and the visual style is simply stunning. The fights are impressive, and it is a pleasure to dispatch enemies. The visual narrative is also inspiring, conveying a multitude of emotions without words. Exploring the game world is captivating and allows you to discover a lot of new things.
Playing this feels less like a game and more like trespassing into something sacred. The further you explore, the heavier the air feels, like the land itself is judging you. It doesn't need horror clichés to make your skin crawl it just lets you feel the weight of it all.
Dark atmospheric action-adventure with tough combat and cryptic forest exploration. Engaging!
In Shrine of the Forest God, it's not just about what you see it's about what you don't. The absence of life, the distant echoes, the feeling that something, somewhere, is aware of you. It creeps up on you without warning.
The start of the game is quite dark—don’t be scared, just head to the right! About the game: Light psychedelia, the boss is moderately difficult. I wouldn’t recommend going straight to him—better arm yourself first. Facing him empty-handed would be a mistake
What's more important, graphics or gameplay? Shrine of the Forest God is fun to play, but it's also very short. I think it's worth playing because I enjoyed it, but the negatives are real. From the first location with a map, if you go to the left you will find the pistol and can search for some other hidden weapons, but if you go right you can make it to the end boss in 15 minutes. Even a completionist run will probably only take an hour. But over the course of my two playthroughs, I had a good time running around and using the (limited) combat against the (too few) enemy types, exploring the map, and experiencing the game world. If you're interested in this genre, and you get Shrine of the Forest God for a good price, it's an easy recommendation. Just keep in mind this is the first game from a solo developer, and adjust your expectations accordingly. Check out my playthrough at: https://youtu.be/V4D5onZsBbI
It's that slow-burning, unforgettable kind of horror. There's no big moment where the game reveals all. No dramatic jump scare, no sudden twist. Just a steady, creeping realization that you are small, insignificant, and walking through something far older than you.
First of all, of course, I would like to note the rather psychedelic atmosphere, very original visual style and interesting bosses, thanks to all this the game definitely deserves attention
[strike]What the ♥♥♥♥? Why did you delete the exe?[/strike] You fixed it! Thanks! I only went as far as leaving a bad review because the game was so intriguing and fun and then poof it was gone. Anyone reading this, this game is darkly compelling, spooky, and mysterious. It's so worth playing.
