This is a cute little game that I quite enjoyed despite it's short length. At $3 I wish I had waited till it was on a bit of a sale, but I'm not upset about it. Took me an hour to 100% and that's only because a couple of levels gave me a bit of trouble. Which was surprising I kinda expected the whole thing to be a breeze, but there were a couple of tricky areas. In part because the enemies with masks, even though they look like you'll be safe from them on a edge, they are juuuuuust tall enough that their hair pokes up onto a second level and can damage you. But what's the game? You are an adorable little critter that reminds me a lot of the dudes from Plantera. Dig up spots and find secret loot and diamonds. Each level has one secret item and 3 diamonds. So you may get a bit more play time if you don't bother digging every spot you see and miss secret items. There's only 15 levels and no bosses. Just a few enemies that are a bit annoying. So who is this game for? Well... as an adult I enjoyed it. It's cute and was an easy play when I didn't feel like playing anything in depth. That being said I call into question the dev's description including "clever puzzles" there were a couple ah ha moments.... but nothing I'd particularly call clever though. To an adult. While I think an adult can enjoy this game for what it is, where I think this game would shine would be as a game for kids who are new to platforming. You have 2 hit points. You have a single heart, get hit once and you lose it, get hit twice and you die. Dig up a radish to get your heart filled up again. The platforming isn't too difficult. Again, no bosses. Then while an adult that understands platformers will get the existence if collectibles. There will be a bit of replay value for a kid who may look at it and realize "wait... I missed something." and they'll have to go back in for the secret items. So while it's a 1 hour cute game for an adult. For a kid this would be at least a couple hours of fun (and a little frustration) and then there is some replayability to it. So I mildly recommend it for adults, but if you have a young child that hasn't played platformers. I think this surpasses my pervious pick for a kids "first platformer", Dadish. Just because Dadish does ramp up in difficulty at a certain point. While Shovel Pirate had pretty consistent difficulty the whole game. So if your kid doesn't have the attention span for more complex platformers like the classics we all know and love (looking at you Spyro and Crash). This could be a good starting point. All of that aside. I think the game is charmingly cute. Music was nice. General design was great. My ONLY complaint about this game.... is that you have to use the arrow keys to navigate menus.
