I've spent a few enjoyable hours on this prequel and I must say I had a few giggles here and there. The caracters set a nice pace by picking on one another. The battle system is ok, but what I liked best is the story and the lore they were able to put in, which shows where the game might be heading in the future. It was quite smooth to play even though I had a hard time with the music system as it felt clunky and hard to hit notes. If you come across this prologue; give it a go and see for yourselves

Fun "retro-style" RPG. It won't take much more than a couple of hours to beat, but you can tell that the devs have put a lot of care into crafting the world & have lots more planned for the main game. The good: - Sprites, animations, music, & world all look great. You can tell a lot of care has gone into the making of it all. - Combat is pretty fun. Although it's a bit limited in the prequel, it has great potential. I can't wait to see how it plays out once you have access to a bigger roster of characters & expand the technique system. - Lots of jokes / humor sprinkled all over the game, making exploring every nook and cranny more worthwhile. The slightly less good: - No auto-save! I almost turned off the game without saving the first time. Maybe a small tutorial at the begining to teach users how to save could be beneficial. - Menu navigation could be a bit more intuitive. It would be nice to be able to navigate from character to character in the equipment & training screens. - Music minigame was quite challenging & felt like it was lagging a bit on my machine. Overall I'd recommend the game, and I'll be eagerly waiting the launch of Shining Orb.
RPG Maker strikes again! "Shining Orb Prequel" is one of the many low effort projects made with an easy-to-use construction kit made for children to use, in Kadokawa's own words, "These easy to use tools are simple enough for a child". It's a kitbash of asset flipped RPG Maker stock assets and cringe high school fan fiction. This isn't even a full RPG Maker "game", this asset flip is just an advertisement for another RPG Maker asset flip that was so bad the developer didn't bother making it. The asset flip was intended to be an RPG Maker kitbash with a painfully generic high school anime club dropout fan-fiction about the developer and his imaginary girlfriend, Sofianthe, who has purple hair. Gotta love the imagination of these RPG Maker asset flippers and their fan-fictions. Like other RPG Maker "games", the game engine is extremely low quality. It displays badly in fullscreen, and has no real graphics settings or HD support. It's not up to the same standard we expect from a modern PC game. We can make the argument that construction kit toys like RPG Maker are intended for making small games and demos and things to pass around with friends. They shouldn't be used as a substitute or "Ez-mode" to allow unqualified amateurs to LARP that they're real, actual game developers. Like most RPG Maker shovelware, the game uses low quality 2D "retro" pixelcrap art and has bad gameplay. RPG Maker is garbage and never results in products with any real value as PC games. This game is fairly dated at 8 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now onto pricing and value. As an advertisement, this is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. It's important to understand there's a formal process to create a demo/page for a game which hasn't been followed here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos While it might seem like an innocuous mistake, publishing demos and advertisements as if they are full games is misleading and in some ways harmful. This advertisement is taking up marketing space and visibility that would be better made available to a developer that's done the right thing and created a full game. Instead, that visibility is given over to a demo/advert that's been published incorrectly and is polluting the marketplace. It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of only 4 players, it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? What's the verdict? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. I didn't pay money, but I still feel ripped off.
It does seem a good start for a game. However the last post on the official site was on december 2018 so it seems it turned vaporware by this point.
