You are a young man, the grandson of an almost century-old grandmother who is living out her days in her once cozy but long dilapidated apartment. Her relatives have long ago withdrawn from her, the medics speak of “senile dementia”, but you come to care for her - out of duty? Or in the hope that after her death the apartment will be left to you?
Everything starts as a routine: pills by the hour, quiet evenings, the smell of dust and mothballs. But grandma's acting, uh. strange. Sometimes she looks at you like she doesn't recognize you. Sometimes she looks at you like she sees someone else. At night you wake up to her footsteps behind the wall. Or is that not her?
"SHE WAS 98" is a story of fear, self-interest and payback. The line between victim and hunter blurs, and every step you take brings you closer to a secret that might be better left unknown.

This was a really good short horror game. It was kind of hard not being able to see but you kind of adjust. Overall, i only jumped out of my chair 3 times, well done!

SHE WAS 98 von Notex und N4bA wirft uns in eine richtig starke, düstere Ausgangslage: Als junger, egoistischer Enkel schielen wir aufs Erbe und sollen uns im Gegenzug um unsere 98-jährige Oma kümmern. Dieser moralische Wechsel zwischen Hilfsbereitschaft und purem Egoismus erzeugt zusammen mit der durchweg unangenehmen Umgebung einen richtig packenden psychologischen Terror. Mein einziger Kritikpunkt: Das Spiel ist leider wirklich sehr kurz. Hier hätte man definitiv noch viel mehr Story und Tiefgang einbauen können, da die Grundidee so viel Potenzial bietet! Wer aber Bock auf eine kurze, intensive Grusel-Pflegeschicht hat, macht hier absolut nichts falsch. Ein echter N4bA-Happen für zwischendurch! Meine Wertung: 🧦 7,5 von 10 Socken! 🧦
N4bA has once again delivered the video game equivalent of a Stephen King short story. Their games always remind me of Thief fan missions from back in the early 2000s, where a single dev or small team could make a standalone level that scares you to the core over the space of an hour and lingers in your mind better than most full sized games made by huge teams. The jump scares are perfectly timed and catch you off-guard constantly. Totally worth the price of a cup of coffee in this economy.
