Honestly, a great and educative experience, I just wish it lasted more. 9/10, only because it's too short for my likings :-) *I got this key at keymailer.co*
While I would very loosely refer to this as a gaming experience, I do feel that She Could Fly was very informative and carried an important message that needs to be heard. The colorful environment and charming voice acting of the main "protagonist" made for an enjoyable story. I learned a lot about OCD thru listening to real people's stories and I believe my viewers did as well.
The gameplay loop, puzzles, writing, and documentary aspects were all passable. Not bad, but not great either. I found the narrator to be annoying, but perhaps that was sort of intended? That said, I don't feel like the game did a very good job of conveying the experience of having OCD, so I'm not sure it succeeded at its main goal. Because the game is kind of mediocre (again not bad, just... meh...), I don't feel like it justifies the $6USD price tag it currently has. I might tentatively recommend it for the curious at the $1 or $2 price point.
A really moving game about OCD with an interesting game loop mechanism and some surprisingly spooky bits!
It's a good mix of documentary and game, and really puts you in the proper head space. As someone with OCD, it addressed my specific OCD as well as many others, and talked about the various ways it can and will impact your life and the life of everyone around you. I even learned a few things, treatments, and things I had been doing to cope without even realizing. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone and everyone who is either suffering with OCD, or one of their loved ones/friends are suffering with it. The artwork, the music, the varying atmospheres really helped illustrate the various ways OCD can and will come at you. Appropriately priced, if anything it's a little under. As I feel I got more knowledge and experience than my wallet paid for. Really felt like a good therapy session, when I could relate to a lot of things that were said and shown.
An inventive and creative look into a mental health disorder. Highly recommend!
Pros: -The artwork sprinkled into each level is great . -While the game-play is mostly a walking simulator with some very light puzzles. It was still engaging enough. -Voice acting was brilliant. Cons -The controls were a bit odd. You get used to it but not sure why they couldn't just have implemented free movement. -The game is incredibly short. I must admit I stopped watching the videos after the first loop, I think the voice actor was providing a much better insight into the mechanics of the illness anyway. I would have preferred less videos and more game-play. Overall unless you have a particular interest in OCD, I'd probably only recommend on a steep discount.
What an incredible, enjoyable and important game. It is clear that people with a lived-experience of OCD were centred through the production of the game - gameplay is a hauntingly accurate depiction of the condition. My friend and I - both of whom do not have OCD but know people who have it - found this game very moving and informative. I strongly urge everybody to play this game, whether you know somebody with OCD or not. Particularly liked the scary fear monsters, the "comfortable zone" beanbag for when you needed a rest, and the pink elephant!
★★★★★ I haven't finished playing "She Could Fly: Documentary Escape Game" yet, but I can already say that I absolutely love the way it's made. The game does an excellent job of explaining what lies behind OCD and provides a small but insightful glimpse into how this disorder develops through its narrative. The design of the game is truly beautiful, and the integration of comic elements adds a unique charm. The narrator, Tiger Orchid, is incredibly funny, and her commentary provides many entertaining moments. At the same time, she manages to maintain the seriousness of the topic, striking a perfect balance between entertainment and education. Another strong point is the collaboration of the creative team with scientists and individuals who live with OCD. This gives the game an authentic and well-informed foundation, which is clearly evident throughout the experience. One minor criticism is that the game is currently only available in English. Translations into other languages would be fantastic, allowing even more people to enjoy this unique experience and benefit from the important message the game conveys. Despite this, "She Could Fly: Documentary Escape Game" is a clear recommendation for anyone looking for a unique and informative gaming experience! It's not just a game, but also a valuable resource for learning more about OCD and mental health.
