I can't recommend this game for the same reason everyone else is. It's not a remaster. I bought this game on sale for the same price as the original because I was pushed back by all the reviews that were accurately represented by the game trailers. At the same price, I didn't mind tyring it out. There isn't anything "Remastered" about this game. The graphics are still nice in its own way, but the original is still more visually appealing. There is also a problem with explosions; When you hit a bomb, the visual is intrusive that you can't really see the trajectory of the ball. The UI isn't as good as the old version, especially with the "Continue" screen. I LOVED have the game counted down and slowly got smaller until it shuts off like an old CRT. This version just has a still screen with no count down. I noticed very minor changes in the sound track too. Might just be a sound filter but it felt different, I just couldn't pin point why. This version just loses all charm. Like how your points are calculated at the end of a world. The sounds made in the original game are gone and is bland in this one. There are only 2 improvements I was able to notice when playing this version:. 1. A delay when unpausing. Don't recall this in the original. May need to go back and see. 2. Easier controller support for big screen mode. The original game required you to set up game pads in the settings launcher before you start the game. In the Remastered version you can just launch the game and it detects a controller. However, you should definitely play this game with a mouse and keyboard. Just buy the original unless you're on steam deck. And if so, wait for a sale. $10 is too much.
Edit 28.11.2022 V1.1.0 fixes it the issue. The original review has been left below. Go for it, especially if you've not played the original. Original review Unacceptable issues for a remaster. The asking price is fair - if the game was working properly. There are issues with higher framerates, issues that do not exist in the original, observe the paddle movement vs. the rest of the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywuga2kUU7U This is not a HW performance issue, this is running on a 1080 Ti with a Ryzen 1700X. I posted about this on the forums and I have yet to see acknowledgement. The team needs to test this with technologies such as g-sync and freesync, multiple displays and more.
An amazing arcade style gem with an exceptional soundtrack. The co-op mode is where the game shines. It's state of the art in arkanoid. This unexpected remaster is a blast - 100% recommended.
Okay, first things first... Let's talk about all the negative reviews for this game first. The negative reviews on this game right now are TOTALLY UNFAIR! ..They are based on their own ridiculous expectations rather than something I like to call "reality". I get that the developer lowered the price of his first original "Shatter" to a super consumer friendly $2 USD price point. But that doesn't mean that this game is going to be 500% better just because it has a $10 price tag here at launch! I compare this new remastered release VS the original Shatter in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QfrPYt2HYg&t=10s ..Imagine a local steak house offering a special 70% your first steak dinner to get people in the door and letting people see how damn good their food is. So people come in and get a nice big rib-eye steak dinner and love it. So they come in a few weeks later and order another steak dinner but this time perhaps it's still an absolutely fantastic dinner and better for the price than any other restaurant in town. So then half of these cry baby customers CRY and WHINE about how terrible the food is because they wanted an "impossible to deliver" steak simply because they paid more and didn't get as good of a deal as they first 70% dinner! ..That's just about exactly what we have going on here. This developer is NOT going to be able to deliver a breakout game 5X better than the original "Shatter" because his original game was that damn good! ..This game is NOT bad at all! ..It's fantastic! It takes a little getting used to, the controls feels a little different then the first game, but it takes more than 15 minutes to get used to it FFS. I give this game a solid 9.5 out of 10 and it's still a SUPERB VALUE at the $10 price tag! We all know that people just love to cry and whine over complete BS, especially when they have set up unrealistic BS expectations in their mind that aren't even possible. Is the original a better value for the now incredible deal of just $2 USD? ..Yes! ... But that does NOT make this game bad in any way, 'nor does it take away from it's own still great value even at the $10 price tag. I honestly think anyone who hasn't played the original and know it's available for just $2 would still LOVE this game and feel it's a fantastic game and a great value at $10! ..Just sayin'! Again, MY SCORE: 9.5 out of 10.
Przyjemna gierka zręczniościowa z fantastyczną grafiką. Wyczytałem, że jest to remake, nie grałem w pierwowzór, ale obecna wersja bardzo przypadła mi do gustu.
Simple remaster, but it now properly supports 21:9 ultrawide. Have had no issues so far.
Shatter Remastered Deluxe, developed and published by PikPok, is a modern reimagining of the 2009 cult classic that redefined the brick-breaking genre. Released on November 1, 2022, this title brings the original's innovative mechanics and engaging gameplay to contemporary audiences with enhanced visuals, improved controls, and additional content. At its core, Shatter Remastered Deluxe retains the fundamental gameplay of its predecessor, where players control a paddle to deflect a ball, breaking bricks arranged in various patterns. However, the game introduces several innovative features that set it apart from traditional brick-breaking games. One of the standout mechanics is the "suck and blow" system, allowing players to manipulate the ball's trajectory by pulling it toward the paddle or pushing it away. This added layer of control enables more strategic gameplay and enhances the overall experience. The game boasts 71 levels spread across 10 distinct worlds, each with its own unique visual style and challenges. Players encounter nine formidable bosses that test their skills and provide rewarding encounters. The inclusion of various power-ups and special attacks adds depth to the gameplay, offering players multiple strategies to tackle the game's challenges. Visually, Shatter Remastered Deluxe has been significantly enhanced, featuring stunning 4K resolution running at 120 frames per second. The modernized user interface and improved visual effects contribute to a more immersive experience. Additionally, the original synthwave soundtrack has been remixed and remastered in 5.1 surround sound, further elevating the game's atmosphere. The game offers five distinct game modes to cater to different playstyles. The Story mode allows players to experience the full narrative across 71 levels, while the Endless mode challenges them to survive as long as possible for the highest score. Boss Rush mode pits players against all nine bosses consecutively, testing their endurance. Time Attack mode encourages players to achieve the highest score within a limited time, and Couch Co-op mode enables two players to team up locally to tackle challenges together. Global leaderboards provide a competitive edge, allowing players to compare their scores with others worldwide. Despite its many strengths, Shatter Remastered Deluxe has received a mixed reception, with 65% of user reviews on Steam being positive. Some players have praised the game's innovative mechanics and enhanced visuals, while others have expressed concerns about certain aspects of the gameplay and controls. Nevertheless, for fans of the original and newcomers alike, Shatter Remastered Deluxe offers a polished and engaging experience that revitalizes a beloved classic. Rating: 7/10
A modernized breakout game with cool boards, scenes and boss fights with utilizing multiple balls, absorb, and repel. I played the original version pretty much enough and this version is almost same in gameplay-wise. This may, or may not a version for who played original version of Shatter because this 'Remastered Deluxe' is different in several points. [What it missed] 1. Paddle ship rotating along with player control, and some graphic effect when ship movement stops and turns its direction. Functionality is same, just visual effects and model movements are missing. 2. Almost all blocks lost its glossy reflection, and glassy look transparency. 3. Sound FX lacks some impact a bit. 4. PC friendly UI: It lacks several 'go back' button, but it is not critical. 5. Stage clear cutscene elements are overly skipped, dropped its quality overly. 6. Shards lack its trails and it seems like I dropped graphic quality to low. [What it added, or changed] 1. Remastered soundtracks: Lesser bass than original. Both sounds awesome, and they tastes different. This version's soundtracks are mastered with 'recent' taste. 2. Korean localization and some more languages, even logo itself. (Korean logo looks pretty awkward and it lacks some key iconic visual of original English logo though, but nice try.) 3. Proper scaling for 4K resolution. Original can work in 4k but UI does not scale. 4. Rebuilt UI elements. I like original in-game UI better though. 5. Fragments are actual fragments now. (Some players won't like it.) 6. Absorb and repel now have different SFX and VFX. 7. Bonus stage screen is changed, looks cooler than original in my opinion. 8. Visual of power up items are changed, but it's harder to know what item icon means what. 9. Loading times are shortened a bit. Probably engine version effect. 10. Higher FPS support, as stated at description: I don't have monitor supports more than 60fps, I'm not sure about this. With its full price, especially for fans who waited for day one definitive experience may be disappointed. Improvements are minor, there are several misses, and price wasn't cheap enough to calm down the crowd. But, when it's in sale, around $5 USD, I think it's worth to drop one McDonald's Big Mac Set price. This 'Remastered Deluxe' have some bummer and somehow it feels like some cashgrab, but the company behind this, PikPok is.. actually Sidhe as far as I read from Wikipedia. OK... PikPok, update the game to restorie missing elements, and you guys restore your honorable reputation as a company of original Shatter. It's been around 2 years, it's unlikely to be happen though.
Seems like all the issues people have had with this game are fixed. I have the original and this remastered is great and I highly recommend it. Plays great on Steam Deck.
