I love bouldering and I love this game and I love you, the reader of this review. P.S. Here is my route: Klifur/HOUDINI/G/ABAJwHto1t68PSFngNR5VS3VD56dHsPJQmKEWAcFupX0tKt9imMhdkyvDBLxadEPn7m/r+b4pFZYEv5TG2trnLCizACDtPLLchImFnRxC2Xp+kKlPa5/+BnJR2GdkzqNP5UiBsPI8OqwoB8bHGoJb8uMTQjzX5rGFM6wZvEKTHEJCimu8Ve8KbJ6iZucDPljKpqMbToIlep3G9FoKqR0BjCFfwvqiEjZo+2716jsyynsXECYma9voHy79MKjgsY3KkUOzSbSkHWbfq2CVSrGjG9wM=
Cautious recommendation. I love how it looks & feels! And when it works, it really works! That being said, the difficulty curve of the levels seemed a bit arbitrary to me: One moment I was breezing through a bunch of levels on my first try, then I got absolutely stumped on the next one. Once you've finished a set of levels, you'll unlock optional, but extremely (!) tight targets for the number of holds and time taken. Might be a skill issue, but the game also doesn't really care to explicitly teach you any tricks or advanced moves. Like
that you can adjust the point of contact for each limb without it counting as another hold
or
that you can release with one limb and then quickly grab the hold with another, if you're fast enough
. I'm a bit torn on that: On one hand, figuring those things out on your own can feel really great. On the other hand, not figuring it out can make you struggle a lot more on certain levels... My personal favorite were the optional targets for skipping at least one hold entirely, though! Although the UI doesn't communicate clearly if that's possible on every level or not. However, what I'm missing the most is controller support! Would be so nice to have one shoulder button assigned to each limb and grab/release on button press, then aim with the analog stick. Especially in those situations where you view is obstructed by the body of the character, and you risk accidentally releasing the wrong limb and failing the entire level. Which brings me to my final point: Failing a level shortly before the top can feel really punishing. I'm fine with that for the actual attempts, but I wish the game had an (optional) assist mode that resets your character to its last position during training.
Highly recommend for a fun and highly intuitive challenge that's difficult enough to push you but made so well that you still come back for more. I appreciate how consistent and accurate the hitboxes are, too. It's important in a game like this! Took me three hours to beat the base game and only get a couple stars. The stars are very hard but maybe I'll come back later :)
A fun and engaging climbing game, satisfying physics and well designed courses.
A sophisticated puzzle game with a rock climbing theme. Although there seem to be too much upside-down and joints twisting compared to real life climbing, it's still fun to play. Most of the rock holds don't allow you to grip with both hands at the same time. I understand this is for puzzle designing, but the inability to easily switch your hand is somehow annoying. Also, this version removes the setting where you would fall immediately after exhaustion compared to the website version, thus greatly reducing the cost of trial, but it also feels like some of the challenges have been lost. And this version looks a bit rougher than the website version. Is it because of the image quality? Maybe I prefer the art style of the website version.
Great game but it needs a darker dark mode.
I really like the authentic feeling of climbing this simple game captures! There are moments of pure joy when completing a hard climb and discovering a new technique, just as in real bouldering. The route editor is fun and simple to learn. Great value for money!
I love the concept of the game and the physics are amazing but i think it is missing a community levels tab. Also some levels such as II spacestation are quite difficult compared to all the other levels in the section (i think if not balanced then some achievements may be impossible) But anyways such a cute game and I am absolutely not hating on this i am just giving my feedback and take of the game but its so fun to play and would definitely recomend it to play
