About
Outrun the horde and survive another day in the war-torn Capitol.
In Shardpunk you already lost. Now you need to run for your life while saving as many people and pieces of equipment as possible. Keep on moving and use every skill and item at your disposal to reach the safety of fusion core-operated bunkers.
Put together a crew of survivors and use a range of steampunk weapons and bots to scavenge for resources, slow down the horde, and reach safety. Shardpunk mixes turn-based tactical strategy with RPG, survival, and resource management. From battle tactics to the most difficult decisions on who should receive the last medpack or rations, you’ll need to take charge and (hopefully) live with its consequences.
The Rat Swarm has breached the walls of The Capitol and flooded the city with its vermin horde. Push through three districts with progressively more vicious enemies, rising emergency levels, and supplies that dry up like blood from a knife wound. Constantly on the move, you’ll scavenge bodies and resource crates risking that with each detour the rats are getting closer...
XCOM meets Darkest Dungeon as Shardpunk combines turn-based tactical battles with the hard choices made at the bunker
Grid-based levels that are open for exploration and full of tactical possibilities while you run from the endless hordes of rats
A motley crew of characters to build your team, each one with unique abilities, equipment, perks, and shortcomings that affect their mates
Steampunk arsenal and technologies to use in battle that also requires mending and cooling, so they don’t backfire on you in the middle of the fight
Variety of resources to scavenge, upgrades to unlock, and equipment to craft
Detailed pixel art visuals that set the victorian mood and feast your eyes with fusion-core explosions

Not steam deck compatible, no matter what it says. Most importantly, they've made a bunch of little decisions that make this a deeply frustrating experience more than a satisfying challenge. They obviously want to be compared to XCOM, but they fall short in every direct comparison and don't surpass it anywhere else. It's not a *bad* game, but I beat it once and was very done with the experience by the time I finished the slog of a final level. Hopeful the sequel is an improvement.
Interesting TBS game. Unusual tactics and cool way to develop character and group skills. I recommend this for fans of games such as Fallout 1&2&Tactics, X Com, Sindicate and other similat strategic games.
Pros -Does not have long played out cut-scenes for every attack like most TBT games -Can play on controller and chill on the couch -has good pacing and is just barely complex enough to reward being clever -the survival elements and the goal always being to escape and not fight works well with TBT -its not a word salad like most story driven TBT's, or menu slop like the uber complex ones, you get right into the game very quickly -aside from a few broken characters, you always feel like your team build will have 1 fatal flaw no matter the comp (which imo is a good thing, and im pretty sure that was by design) Cons -The rats are literally skaven to a copyright degree, even have warpstones. The story is not complex so they could've literally been anything and it still wouldve worked, lizards/orcs/ghouls/ect. And on top of that it didnt help that Ive never liked rats as enemies in general. -I'm a big fan of sprite art but its 8bit style is too low imo, you can argue its 16bit but zoomed out but i would disagree and compare it to Front mission in 1995 which was more detailed. -Tilly should be nerfed and I assume Leah needs to be as well, Gideons overwatch gets busted in the late game cause the AI doesn't know how to deal with overwatch in general, gunter needs a visible circle around him so you dont have to keep counting all the spaces between him and allies -using a controller has bugs, but you get used to them.
I don't want to say it's a bad game, but: (1) This is the biggest problem: I feel like there is "the only play style" (overwatch + support bot) that makes sense for a player trying to minimize risk (as you probably should in the scenario described). However, it does make the game less fun. (2) Difficulty needs tuning: Chapter 2 and 3 seems considerably easier with resources gathered. I remember someone mentioning adding capabilities to enemies, e.g. dashing through overwatch, and I do believe it would help. (3) I would really like a "redo last round" button, especially on console. Also, a better indicator of both line-of-sight and cover would be useful: it is often not apparent whether or not an enemy could see me, or vise-versa. (4) Speaking of cover: the cover angle seems to be <45%, instead of the intuitive 90%, making flanks extremely easy. It led to me almost entirely ditch using cover (and thus some cover-related abilities). Not sure if this is intended.
A very nice tactical RPG. A like a setting: it is not presented deeply but feels as a nice background for this gameplay.
Love this game. One of the best rogue like on market
Very smooth experience of team control in the turn based tactics format. Immersive theme (graphics and music). Quick to playthrough the game (just finished first playthrough), but looks like there are different characters to add different dynamics to the game.
